Love Began with the First Meeting -
Chapter 988 Extra Story 126 Of Aaron Tension
In a stupor, Freya found a doctor in the white gown speaking to the female prison guard. She was barely able to keep awake, but even in her daze, she managed to grasp the part where the doctor mentioned she was pregnant with a child. She tried to utter a word, but in the end, she failed and fell unconscious almost immediately.
"Tweedle-tweedle-tweedle..."
The honking of the car pulled her back to reality and away from the painful memories of the past. She looked blankly at the taxi which slowed down as she mechanically raised her hand, and got into the car.
Even the rain glowed neon in the downtown lights, falling from winter chilled clouds that blotted out the last of the sunset. Somehow it calmed her, seeing the night sky so dark and the street lights reflecting in every single drop making it look like a speck of gold. Freya closed her eyes slowly, trying to forget all the pain.
"2083, you've been charged with abusing an infant." The warden looked at the crying baby, who was then less than a year old, and said coldly, "Take her away."
"No! Please don't that! Please..." She held the crying baby in her arms and looked imploringly at the prison guard walking towards her. "I didn't abuse the baby. She was suffering from a fever! I would never hurt my baby. Please! Please don't take my baby away! Please, stop! Give me my baby back!"
Her gasping wails echoed through the prison halls but no one came forward to show sympathy. She tried to fight off the guard, disregarding the consequences. All of a sudden, she felt a sharp pain shoot up from her leg as she crumbled to the floor on her eyes. The last thing she remembered before her consciousness left her was the image of a guard holding a long electric rod!
The pain of losing her child was far greater than any pain she had endured. As she heard its crying voice, she desperately muttered, "Don't take away my baby, please..."
"Miss, we've arrived at your destination. Miss? Hello?!"
"Excuse me? Oh! I'm sorry!" Suddenly, she came back to herself. She looked at the driver blankly at first, and then paid the fare with complete sobriety. Then she got out of the car and left in a hurry.
The taxi driver watched her dash away right ahead as he shook his head and signed. "What's wrong with her? I wonder why You Highness personally arranged a car for her." After Freya disappeared into the door of her house, the driver withdrew his sight and drove away. Meanwhile, comfortably sitting on the sofa in the living room, Ximena meticulously drew designs, outlining the lines of clothes in a few strokes. She smiled to herself, seemingly happy and giddier than usual.
"Miss, won't you get some rest tonight?" The steward looked at the clock on the wall, then at the heavy rain outside and said, "Your Highness said that he would be back late."
"Don't worry about me. You should go and get some sleep," said Ximena, maintaining her concentration. "I will wait for him."
There was a sparkle in her eyes, which even she was unaware of.
Pleased to see her so happy, the steward couldn't help smiling affectionately. The tense atmosphere that loomed over the household in the past year seemed to have dissipated for good. Maybe His Highness played some tricks or Ximena found something fun. "Okay then, miss, I will go to bed." The steward bowed and left the room.
Shifting to a more comfortable position, Ximena leaned against the back of the sofa and looked at the clock on the wall. "Why hasn't he come back yet?" She paused for a moment, as if to think about something, and then continued with her work.
After a while, someone pushed the door open gently but Ximena did not noticed that someone had come in because the sound was muffled by the rain outside. She finished the last few strokes, and then looked at the design with satisfaction. She couldn't help smiling at the thought of Freya...
Gazing at her with satisfaction sparkling brightly in his eyes, Aaron stood there motionlessly. With each passing moment, his sight grew more tender and warm. He did not have the heart to interrupt her, but he figured the former would be better than to startle or creep her out later on.
He took his shoes off and strode forward to the sofa. Suddenly, Ximena looked up and said, "When did you get back?"
"Just a moment ago. I didn't want to stop you from enjoying your work." He glanced at the bottle of red win and the two glasses on the tea table. "Why haven't you gone to be yet?"
She put her drawings aside with a glowing look on her face. She poured wine in a glass and passed it on to him. As she poured herself a glass, she looked at him and said, "Would you like to join me in a small celebration?"
Aaron looked at her with puzzlement and said, "What are you so happy about? What are we celebrating?"
She smiled in a way that could set any dispute between them aside. Taking a sip of the wonderful wine, she divulged, "I have found my aunt!"
A flash of terror passed Aaron's eyes as he looked down at the glass in his hand. Feigning a calm disposition, he lifted his head and looked into Ximena's eyes. "Aunt? What do you mean?"
One arm on the back of the sofa, the other hand shaking the wine glass gently, she replied, "I mean, my aunt, literally." She raised her eyebrows and explained, "To put it in another way, I still have one family member in this world who is still alive. She is my mother's sister. I have an aunt! Can you believe it?"
Aaron rubbed between his eyebrows, showing his confusion and doubt, "Is that true?"
"Absolutely true!" She exhaled with relief, smiling, "All these years I've spent thinking I had no one. I am incredibly happy today." Each sip she took, seemed to add flavors to her pleasure. The sight of which moved Aaron's heart.
He leaned back on the sofa and also took a sip as well. But unlike Ximena, he felt as though the wine added to his unhappiness. Aaron didn't want to tell her truth and take away the joy from her heart. At least, not right now. However... Would he be able to keep the truth from her forever?
Every time he looked at her, the happiness on her face made it harder for him to clear his mind. It seemed like there was no way he could get out of this predicament without hurting her. The choices that were at his disposal wouldn't bring the outcome he hoped for. It was all about her.
"Are you sure about this?" He pretended to be unaware of everything.
Ximena nodded with a smile, and her eyes flashed in sweet amusement. All of a sudden, she stood up, walked over to him and lied down on the sofa by his side. "Aaron," her voice softened, "I want my aunt to live with me. I want to take good care of her, like I would if my mother were still alive."
Aaron slightly tilted his hear to her and said, "Okay!"
She was expecting him to say that, almost as if she didn't need to ask him. The relationship between them had become strange over the past two years, but she had grown accustomed to him. "Will you be jealous?" She looked up at him keenly.
Aaron knitted his eyebrows slightly, and said, "Will I be jealous of your aunt because you will give her all your attention?" He said 'aunt' as if he had taken it for granted.
Ximena put down the wine glass suddenly, without warning, as she straddled him and grabbed the collar of his jacket. Amused by the shock on his face, she smiled, "No... I meant, jealous of me!"
In an instant his facial expression changed to a completely stiff look. Shrouded in a haze, his face darkened and his eyes glimmered with anger.
Ximena took another sip, not realizing that she had annoyed him and said, "Am I right? You are, indeed, jealous of me. Right?"
Ximena was like a tiger cub, bearing its sharp teeth and provoking the hunter. He took a big gulp and grabbed her by the waist.
Pressing his lips to hers, the wine glass shattered into pieces as soon as it fell from his hands and hit the floor. Her mouth filled with wine, she choked and coughed, glowering at him.
His eyes were as dark and thunderous as the storm outside. "How long will you hold a grudge against me?" His voice was hoarse, and he bore it with great forbearance. "You wretched woman!"
The sight of his anger amused her. "I am in a good mood today, so I will forgive you..." She wrapped her arms around his neck and pecked his lips, "All right! I am going to go to bed now. Good night..." Then she tried to push him away.
But he remained motionless, still half pressing on her body. He squinted and said slowly, "Well, I am in bad mood......" He paused for a moment and sneered, "How about sharing some of your happiness with me?"
People's emotions needed to have an outlet, even if there was a gap of estrangement between them.
He kissed her, and just as the two people were about to go further, she suddenly pushed him away. She took a deep breath and said, "No... I am having my period..."
He was deeply displeased as he looked at Ximena's eyes with a strong desire burning in his heart, but no way to quell the fire. "You are doing this on purpose!" He squeezed these words out from gritted teeth.
She chuckled as if this whole train of events was nothing but some outrageous mischief meant to unnerve him.
The sudden roar of a thunder ran an immense exhilaration through his veins. He was starting to get irritated and ill-tempered.
Soon, Ximena fell asleep in Aaron's arms, while he lay there wide awake. He couldn't sleep as his mind raced about, thinking of Freya. For Ximena's sake, Freya had to leave. There was no doubt about that in his mind. He knew that Ximena would be upset but it was better to face tragedy head on than to wait and prolong the inevitable despair.
He sighed in exhaustion, gently kissing her forehead. He never gave up any chance, but there was no sign of pregnancy in her. He slowly closed his eyes and wondered, 'Is it really that hard to have a child?'
"Hmm..." Ximena knitted her eyebrows slightly, turned over and smacked her lips, curling up like a baby and pressing close to his breast. "Aunt... I have a lot of roses here."
The sound of her mumbling in her sleep disheartened him even more. Aaron opened his eyes and helplessly looked at the back of her head, before he lost himself in deep contemplation. 'Would it be right to make Freya leave? Ximena, what shall I do so that you won't get hurt?'.
