Love beyond the mask ( Whitney ) -
Chapter 402
Myra grinned, "Everything is going according to Ms. Sheldon's plan, smoothly as ever!
Today, the person you sent to the hospital found out Natalie got a nosebleed. Mr. Lippert is under immense pressure; now he has no choice but to make a decision. But how could he ever part with Whitney?"
Florence chuckled softly, "I bet they had a massive blow-up."
Her eyes twinkling, she looked at Myra, "Do you know why I invited Mr. Lippert to the movies?"
"I created a scene. Mr. Lippert is a well-known figure, recognized everywhere. Wouldn't someone rush to tell Whitney about it?
I bet right. What I wanted was to drive a wedge between them!"
Myra realized with a cold laugh, "Ms. Sheldon, you're always one step ahead. Whitney doesn't stand a chance!
Even if the old man acknowledges his illegitimate daughter, you've already secured Mr. Lippert. She can't compete with you for him or the Sheldon Group..."
---
At the apartment.
Whitney had just finished treating Bryce's wound when his assistant came to pick him up, and she sent Bryce away.
Danny's call came late at night.
The little guy sounded tired but restless, "Mommy, were those harsh words you said to daddy true?
After we got in the car, I could tell daddy was really upset..."
Whitney sighed, feeling a headache coming on. Their massive argument was bound to affect the kids.
"Danny, your daddy and I... we don't have a future together...
Just because Elaine cleared up some misunderstandings doesn't mean we can just pretend nothing happened and get back together..."
"I know you think daddy was out with another woman, but daddy doesn't lie. He said nothing happened, so it didn't."
Danny frowned, trying to speak well of his dad, but Whitney was too angry to listen. She believed what she saw, and the photo sparked a major issue. They were like two angry lions, hurling hurtful words at each other. She knew her words were harsh.
Seeing mommy stay silent, Danny tried to guilt-trip her, "Daddy hasn't come home yet. I'm really worried about where he might be, sulking somewhere."
"...He just went out to drink."
Whitney muttered, glancing at the number Nolan had called from earlier. His voice was hoarse from drinking.
Why was he telling her this? After berating her and then drowning his sorrows, did he think he was justified?
She was tired of his nonsense and hung up.
Drinking can lead to trouble...
"Don't worry about it. Now, go to sleep with Taryn, honey."
"But daddy was right to hit Bryce, mommy. You were too protective of Bryce tonight!
Before you came downstairs, Bryce said something to daddy. I couldn't hear it clearly from the car, but I saw daddy get really angry after that. Maybe Bryce was trying to stir things up!" Danny accused coldly. Whitney was taken aback. Was this how Danny saw Bryce?
She suddenly thought, could the photos given to Elaine have been from Bryce?
She thought about it for a second, then dismissed the idea.
Whitney took a deep breath and gently said to her son, "Danny, you don't understand like Sammy does. Bryce has been a great help to me during tough times. I don't know what you saw, but Bryce has been good to me." Danny pouted, frustrated. Bryce was cunning, knowing how to charm women!
If only daddy hadn't messed up, hurting mommy so badly that she couldn't see his good side anymore.
Sigh!
---
After finally getting her son to sleep.
Yael, the neighbor, came in with a bowl of lotus seed porridge, setting it on the table, "Sis, you and Ludwik argued so much you skipped dinner. Don't starve yourself, dad would be worried." Whitney remembered they hadn't even boiled the dumplings; what a waste of time making them.
She obediently picked up the bowl.
Yael said, "Tiana heard about Ludwik seeing another woman and got really upset. She said we should replace out who that little tramp is!"
Whitney paused, realizing she hadn't looked closely at the photo from the afternoon. The sting of betrayal had blinded her to the details of the girl's silhouette.
Now, Whitney stiffly scrolled back through her phone, taking a cold, hard look.
That stranger, embraced by him, showed just a glimpse of her side face, looking young with skin so fair it seemed to glow.
But that was all she could make out. Yet, Whitney suddenly narrowed her eyes, why did she feel a bit like it was her own reflection?
"Sis, let me see that woman!" Yael came over, fuming.
Whitney was interrupted and came back to her senses, putting away her phone, not wanting to worry her family further, "It doesn't matter who she is.
We've made things clear between us, it's time to go our separate ways."
Yael was speechless. The hurt Ludwik had caused her sister was indeed significant.
Maybe it was for the best they parted ways. If they were together, it was only for the kids' sake.
"Sis, he's still looking for Sammy with all his might. He's powerful and won't give up until he replaces something. Dad wants you to stay strong."
Whitney nodded, thinking Ludwik didn't care that much about Sammy.
But if his men were on it, she'd know if there was any news.
"About that..." Yael seemed to have a specific reason for coming, "Dad said you should visit Aunt's grave tomorrow. Maybe she'll watch over Sammy." "Visiting mom's grave?" Whitney looked up, skeptical.
Yael hesitated, actually, it was Torin's suggestion. She thought sending her sister to the cemetery might have another motive?
----
The next day, morning.
In a coffee shop.
Ludwik had changed into fresh clothes, his handsome face slightly pale but stern as he sat in the booth.
Florence, Myra, and a doctor walked in just as he was lost in thought, staring out the window.
The raindrops on the glass seemed to be captured in his deep, chilly eyes, adding a touch of melancholy and solemnity to his mature, rugged features. His profile was the most beautiful curve Florence had ever seen. High nose, thin lips, the slight movement of his Adam's apple could speed up any woman's heartbeat.
"Mr. Lippert..." The young girl coughed softly, drawing attention.
Myra gently supported her frail form.
Ludwik stood up, casually pulling out a chair for her with an indifferent gesture, "Please, take a seat. And may I have the honor of knowing your last name?"
Florence gave a coy smile, "Since Mr. Lippert has agreed to my terms, from today onwards, you're officially my boyfriend. Call me Florence, or Flossie if you like!" Ludwik paused for a moment, clearly taken aback and not quite ready to jump into this arrangement.
Nevertheless, the man nodded, clasping his hands together on the table, his gaze complex as he looked at her, "Florence, I can be by your side for a year or two. Here's my condition: you'll need to donate blood to my mother every month, and eventually, undergo a bone marrow transplant within six months.
Her condition is deteriorating rapidly, so we might need to adjust the schedule. You'll need to be on call.
And with each donation being 400cc of blood, I'm not sure if your body can handle it?"
