Chapter 14

Recalling what had happened in the closet, Melody had no intention of sitting close to Maverick.

Maverick looked at her wary expression, not feeling bothered at all. “We still have a long way to go, he mused confidently.

As he waved his hand, the maid immediately served Melody’s nutritious meal on the table.

After glancing at her bland breakfast, Melody frowned and rolled her eyes at the man sitting on the main seat.

“When can I leave here?” she asked the question she cared the most about at the moment.

Maverick gulped down the food in his mouth. A short answer then came out of his lips.

“Half a month later.”

Upon hearing the duration of her stay, Melody was dissatisfied and asked angrily. “Why do I have to stay here for so long? I have my own life!”

Maverick put his fork down, his blue eyes gazing at her.

“The doctor said that you and the babies are slightly malnourished. You must get some good rest.”

“I can rest at my place!” Melody refuted relentlessly.

Maverick’s expression turned frosty as though he was irritated by her continuous retorts. Regardless, he held himself back. “I’ll be worried!”

Cold gleams flashed across Maverick’s sapphire blue eyes as he started losing patience with the young lady.

Maverick continued voicing out all his requests saying. “You’d better be good. Half a month later, I’ll contact the doctor to come over and conduct a checkup on you. You can only leave if the doctor has diagnosed that you’re in a healthy condition. However, you’re not allowed to walk out of this mansion within this half–month period.”

He did not bother whether Melody would listen as it was just an early notice for what she would be doing during her stay.

Melody fumed internally, “Tll be bored to death if I cannot leave this mansion!”

“If

[you feel bored, you can go to the study, music room, or any other entertainment rooms, except for leaving this

mansion.”

Having heard all his requests, Melody was in a fit of fury.

“What right do you have to tell me what to do?”

Displeased with Maverick’s absolute tone, Melody stood up and slammed the table.

Jenny panicked upon seeing her reaction. She quickly rushed over and tugged Melody’s clothes, hoping that the latter could

sit down.

“Have you forgotten who the father of the children you’re pregnant with is, Ms. Tuffin?” Maverick answered coldly.

Upon receiving his scrutinizing gaze, Melody felt guilty as she had almost aborted the twins.

No matter how tough her life was, she should not have made such a cruel decision.

Having lost all his patience, Maverick directly ordered, “There’s no room for discussion on this matter. Don’t you dare to plot against me. I have men guarding every corner, every floor of this mansion. The fence is supplied with high–current. voltage. Not a single fly can get out of here.”

It was rare for Maverick, a man of few words, to have said so much. Furthermore, Melody was the first person who had the privilege to enter any room in the mansion.

Upon seeing that, the maids standing in the corner started to have great respect for Melody.

Moreover, the latter was pregnant with their young masters, the future owners of the mansion. Determined, the maids vowed inwardly that they would serve Melody well no matter what.

Meanwhile, Melody was at a loss for words.

“What an arrogant, bossy, unreasonable, cunning, old man he is!” she grumbled.

Despite her having lowered her voice, Maverick could hear her complaints clearly with his sharp hearing.

“It seems like she is quite resilient for having the mood to curse me in secret, he mused inwardly.

“What did you say?” Maverick asked.

“N–Nothing! I was just complimenting how delicious my breakfast today is.”

As she explained herself, Melody quickly fed herself a spoonful of food. She then chewed the food hard and furiously as though it was Maverick.

“Is that so?”

Melody suddenly felt the air around her turn chilly.

“Have some if you don’t trust me.” She swiftly moved the poached egg, of which she had taken a bite, from her plate to Maverick’s.

The maids were shocked by her movement. It was too late for Felix to stop Melody.

Worried about Melody getting scolded, Jenny hurriedly took a set of clean cutleries from the table at the side, wanting to hand them over to Maverick.

Knowing her intention, the man lifted his hand and stopped her.

Then, everyone saw their master, who was a germaphobe, pick up the fork he had put down earlier, take the poached egg, and place it into his mouth.

After Maverick finished the egg, a smirk appeared on his face.

Upon seeing that, everyone was dumbstruck, except for Melody, who knew nothing about Maverick’s germaphobia.

“Is the sun rising from the west today?” a housekeeper mused, feeling baffled.

“Mr. Mills actually ate someone else’s leftovers! Besides that, he looks so happy with it! It’s the first time I’ve ever seen that in my entire life. another thought.

With that, everyone had different thoughts in their minds as they watched Maverick and Melody finish their breakfast.

Maverick headed to his company right away. Meanwhile, Melody shook Jenny off and went back to her room upstairs gloomily.

After breakfast, she retrieved her phone from Maverick.

“It has been almost three days since I used my phone. I wonder if anyone contacted me,” she thought.

The phone had run out of battery. Hence, Melody got herself a charger and connected it to her phone. Afterward, she switched on her device.

Shortly after, her phone lit up and vibrated non–stop for a while.

Melody picked up her phone to look at it and found that there were several missed calls from Joseph and the landline at the Tuffin residence that morning.

Puzzlement struck her as she mused, “Tve severed my ties with the Tuffin family at the Tuffin residence back then. They’ve never contacted me even once during these three months. Why are they looking for me all of a sudden?”

Just as she was feeling perplexed, her phone rang. It was a call from Joseph. Melody connected the call after it had rung for quite some time.

Right after she placed the phone next to her ear, Joseph’s loud voice boomed.

“You’re getting bolder, Melody! You’re not even answering my calls now. Do you still remember that you’re a Tuffin?”

Clenching her phone, Melody answered coldly, “Ha! Didn’t you tell me to get lost three months ago, Mr. Tuffin? What do you want from me? We should steer clear of each other after severing our ties to avoid any trouble. As a businessman, you should probably know this, Mr. Tuffin.”

Having heard her words, Joseph almost smashed his phone out of rage.

“I–I don’t want to contact you either! Old Mrs. Tuffin’s birthday will be held at home early next month. There’s no way you won’t come, right? You should have known about how she treated you throughout these years.”

As the figure of a lovely old woman surfaced in her mind, Melody furrowed her eyebrows and then relaxed them. Her tone became less tense.

“I’ll be there.

Without waiting for the other end to say anything further, she hung up the phone.

“Joseph is right. Old Mrs. Tullin treated me nicely when I was at the Tullin residence. She didn’t despise me because of my status as the illegitimate child.”

After ending the phone call, Melody read through her messages.

There were no important messages as she only had a small number of friends added on Facebook. Aside from the group messages, the only personal message she received was from Joshua.

Melody had cut ties with Joshua ever since she caught him cheating on her with Natasha at his house. Joshua also stopped bothering himself with Melody since then.

However, she forgot to delete his contact after severing ties with him.

Thinking of blacklisting Joshua’s Facebook, Melody slid her fingers over the screen but accidentally clicked into the chat

box.
