Love Blooms In Prenups By Lydia Onions -
Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Stanley was stunned, as he did not expect Maverick to say that. He froze for a moment before returning to his senses. “Gol
it.”
Maverick massaged his temples, shutting his eyes and waving his hand toward Stanley. “Go get some rest.”
“Okay.”
When Stanley left, Maverick remained in his seat for some time before heading upstairs.
After taking a shower, he stood in front of the large window.
The sky was getting brighter, and he could see the blooming flowers in the castle’s garden.
He stared at it in frustration before turning around and lying down on the king–size bed.
Meanwhile, Melody exited the presidential suite on the top floor, went to the front desk on the first floor, and asked a receptionist for information about the person in the room.
Seeing the young lady in front of her was dressed in expensive clothes, the receptionist treated the latter politely. However, when she heard Melody asking about the presidential suite, the receptionist naturally kept her lips sealed. “I’m sorry, miss. We cannot disclose any information about our guests.”
After a moment of impasse, Melody, who could not get an answer, had no choice but to leave. She decided to go home to question Joseph. “What gives him the right to treat me like that? He’s my biological father! How could he sacrifice me to a fat, old man just to help his company overcome a tough situation?” she lamented.
Letting out a bitter chuckle, she hailed a taxi by the side of the road, wanting to head to the Tuffin residence to confront Joseph.
The moment she got into the car, the driver took a quick glance at her through the rearview mirror. He noticed her face and eyes were red and swollen. Thinking she had been bullied, he asked straightforwardly, “Are you okay, miss? Do you need me to help you call the police?”
Melody was stunned, for she did not think a stranger could show her concern so easily. After all, her closest family members would not do so. “It’s okay. Thank you, mister. Please send me to the location.”
Sensing she was unwilling to tell him anything, the driver said no more and sent her straight to the Tuffin residence.
As soon as she passed through the mansion’s door, she heard Joseph’s furious yells.
Crash!
It was the sound of porcelain falling to the ground.
“What an ingrate! I can’t believe she messed up my plan!” Joseph massaged his forehead, which had protruding veins. His face was distorted in rage, making him look utterly ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Yolanda added fuel to the fire, “It wasn’t easy replaceing someone who’s willing to invest, nor was it easy tricking Melody into having sex with Mr. Graham. I can’t believe she actually ran away. And now, Mr. Graham isn’t willing to transfer the money. This is bad. The company won’t be able to hold on for long.”
Margaret, too, acted vulnerable, saying, “Exactly. Dad, I wouldn’t have spent so much time considering the Smith family if 1 knew this would happen. If I married him earlier, the money would have been transferred long ago. Even if Matthew replaces out about it in the future, I’ll be the only one who’s suffering. The company’s more important, anyway.”
When Joseph saw how sensible his eldest daughter was, his resentment for Melody grew.
“I knew it. A mere product of a night’s passion can never be someone useful,” he pondered.
“I’ll never involve you, Margaret. Hmph. If Melody doesn’t make it up to Mr. Graham, she won’t get a single cent. That mother of hers will die without my support,” he muttered.
Melody strode into the living room after hearing Joseph’s cruel words. However, when the trio saw her, they did not feel the slightest bit guilty. Instead, they blamed her.
“I’m surprised you haven’t forgotten to come home. Look at what you’ve done. You can’t even complete such a simple task. And you dare call yourself my daughter? I’m just asking you to help out a little when the company’s in trouble. Yet, you messed it all up.” Joseph scolded.
“A simple task?” Melody wore a cold expression. After experiencing the incident from last night, she finally understood the situation. “If it’s such a small matter, why didn’t you assign Margaret to do it? You’re really incredible. I can’t believe you’d betray your biological daughter to achieve your goals.
Smack!
Joseph widened his eyes in rage, and he extended his arm, slapping Melody across her face. He pointed at her and bellowed,
“Melody Tuffin! Don’t think too highly of yourself. Your existence is caused by a mistake I made that one time. You’re not worth being compared to Margaret!”
Chapter 7
The strong slap made Melody stagger a few steps backward before finally regaining her balance.
Melody’s head had turned sideways from the slap, but she still stood straight.
Several seconds later, she calmly tucked the strands of hair away from the side of her face, her fingertips gently brushing her swollen cheek.
Meanwhile, Margaret was overjoyed to see Melody getting slapped.
The second Melody entered the mansion, Margaret’s sharp eyes had noticed the branded clothing on the former, and her heart burned with jealousy. Naturally, she would not miss the chance to attack Melody.
She feigned surprise and asked, “Wow. Mel, where did you get your clothes from? They must be quite expensive, right? Oh, and what’s that on your neck?”
Hearing Margaret’s words, the two adults‘ gazes landed on Melody’s neck.
What they saw next was a bruise on her exposed skin. One could obviously tell what it was at a glance.
Joseph was furious after seeing it. “Way to go, Melody. I sent you to keep Mr. Graham company, but you refused. Who would’ve known you’d humiliate yourself this way?”
Melody gritted her teeth, saying, “Hah! All these bruises on my body are all thanks to you. I was there last night and had a meal with him. So, give me my money.”
She spat out those words icily, staring straight at Joseph.
“You want the money? Sure. I’ll give you 150 thousand dollars if you manage to coax Mr. Graham. After all, you’re not a virgin anymore.” As Joseph said that, he felt incredibly proud of himself. “What do you think? 150 thousand dollars should be enough for you to pay up to six months‘ worth of your mother’s medical bills.”
“Haha! You’re willing to casually whip up more than that amount when you’re purchasing clothes for Margaret. Yet, you only give out half the amount when it comes to saving a life. Even worse, you’re telling your biological daughter to do such disgusting things. Don’t you feel embarrassed if someone replaces out about all this?”
“Don’t make things sound so terrible, Melody. Your father’s company is facing some problems, and you’re the only person who can help him. He doesn’t have a choice either. Don’t blame him.” Yolanda’s words were basically placing the blame on Melody again.
Melody stared at the trio before her with a cold gaze, uttering each word clearly, “Don’t you even think about it. You’ve tricked me once. Do you think I’ll believe you like a fool?”
“You…” Joseph raised his hand and wanted to slap her, but she managed to dodge it.
Melody eyed the infuriated Joseph and scoffed, “Well, I’ll just pretend that slap earlier never happened. I’ll never let you touch a single strand of my hair in the future.”
Joseph glared at her beautiful yet icy face. “Listen to me, Melody. From this moment onward, I do not have a bastard like you in this family!” After that, he coughed a few times.
Yolanda was elated to see the duo on the verge of cutting ties. However, she still faked a worried expression.
She stepped forward and patted Joseph’s back to calm him down. “Honey, don’t be so calculative with a child. Melody is still young, and Beatrice is sick. It’s natural for children who grew up without discipline to be a little wild like her.”
After hearing her words, Joseph’s rage, which had subdued a little, surged again.
That was Yolanda’s special skill. She was an expert in stirring up rage.
“Young? She’s already graduated from university. When will she be more sensible?” Josephi snapped.
