Chapter 113

Andrew knew Madelyn must be feeling down when he saw her not speaking, so he changed the topic. " Grandma wants us to go to her place for lunch tomorrow. Are you coming?" "Of course!" Madelyn nodded.
She needed to maintain a good relationship with the Millers, so she had to visit more often.
Andrew was relieved seeing her finally respond. He took her for a half-hour walk by the lake after dinner.
Madelyn's phone kept ringing, but she ignored the calls. She returned to her room to pick up the phone only after they returned to the villa and Andrew entered the study.
"Hello."
Amelia's fawning voice sounded, "Matthew's daughter Krista, is back from abroad. Victoria wants you to come with us tomorrow."
Madelyn quirked an eyebrow. They had never invited her to such occasions, only Elena was. Yet now, Amelia was calling her with such a fawning attitude.
She assumed that Amelia would revert to her old ways once Elena temporarily weathered the crisis. But she wasn't naive enough to believe that Amelia genuinely cared for her. "I have plans tomorrow," Madelyn flatly refused after a brief consideration.
"Maddie, I went to see you, but I can't even get into Serenity Villa now, do you know that? I'm your mother, after all. Andrew
shouldn't treat us with such manners," Amelia pointed out as she held her anger back.
Madelyn raised an eyebrow, remembering how Amelia had thrown the thermos at Serenity Villa's gate. It seemed that Amelia's pretense of kindness was an attempt to sow discord. The fact that Amelia was her biological mother was truly laughable.
As the thought crossed Madelyn's mind, she didn't hold back from retorting, "If he didn't respond like that wouldn't you have sucked the life out of him?"
Amelia stammered, "What... What do you mean?"
Amelia hadn't expected Madelyn to remain unyielding despite her humble approach.
Victoria's directive reminded her to swallow her rage. "She's your grandma, no matter how much you deny
1. it. Even if we've hurt you, she called and asked for you. Don't disappoint her, alright?"
Madelyn stayed silent with a dark look flickering in her eyes.
Amelia added for fear that she wouldn't return, "Shall I pick you up from Serenity Villa tomorrow?"
"No need. What time?" Madelyn snapped.
"Noon!"
"Got it." Madelyn hung up right after.
She hadn't said if she would show up or not. This left Amelia fuming.
A call from the Garcia Manor rang. Victoria's firm tone was heard on the phone. "You must bring Madelyn back tomorrow, no matter what you do."
"Got it!" Amelia clenched her fists, not daring to defy Victoria.

When Elena returned home, she saw Amelia sitting on the couch, face pale with anger. She handed her bag to the butler and obediently approached Amelia. "Mom, did Grandma upset you again?" "Did she call you, too?" Amelia asked nervously, still seething.
Elena nodded. "I got a call on the way back. She said we must bring Maddie back."
Amelia's face darkened further.
Elena looked worriedly at her. "Did Madelyn tell Grandma anything?"
To this, Amelia said nothing in response.
