Chapter 156
The situation was spiraling out of control.
Suddenly, Nora entered while clutching her stomach.
She reported, "Mr. Garcia, Mrs. Garcia, someone from the Miller family is here!"
As soon as they heard that someone from the Miller family had arrived, Amelia and Caleb quieted down. They exchanged a hopeful glance. "Well, let them in."
Amelia wondered if they had come for Elena. After all, Elena had been visiting the Miller family over the past few years, and they genuinely liked her.
If that was
They considered that perhaps Athena missed Elena because she hadn't visited them recently. If that the case, it would be a stroke of luck
Nora brought someone in. It was Ryan from the Miller residence.
Despite her disheveled appearance, Amelia quickly regained her composure and greeted him politely.
"Mr. Rivera, what brings you here? Is Mrs. Miller Senior asking for Elena?"
Elena's eyes lit up at the mention of Athena. She knew all her efforts over these years hadn't been in vain. In just a few days, Athena had missed her.
Elena wondered whether it mattered if Andrew protected Madelyn. As long as she found a way to make Athena dislike Madelyn again, the latter's life would still be difficult. Ryan took in the messy room and understood the situation clearly.
Amelia felt slightly embarrassed when she noticed Ryan assessing the situation of the house.
"Maddie came back earlier and caused quite a scene. I apologize for the mess."
She spoke with a hint of resignation as if Madelyn had always been causing trouble for them.
Elena stepped forward at the right moment.
"Is Mr. Rivera here to see me? Don't listen to Mom. Maddie just has a few misunderstandings about us."
As usual, Elena and Amelia played the role of the caring sister and mother.
Ryan squinted momentarily, his gaze piercing even after he opened his eyes.
"I have no interest in your family's affairs. I am here today on Mrs. Miller Senior's orders."
With that, Ryan handed a list to Elena.
Seeing the list in Ryan's hand, Amelia and Elena exchanged a subconscious glance. The brief moment of relief they had felt earlier was now shattered once again.
Elena hesitated to take the list directly. She felt a pang of anxiety.
"Mr. Rivera, what is this about?"
She wondered why Ryan would be there that day if Athena were the one who wanted to see her. Elena's thoughts raced as she began to understand. Her expression darkened with growing unease. Ryan clarified coldly, "Mrs. Miller Senior has instructed me to collect all the jewelry she previously gifted

to you. Ms. Garcia, please review the list and hand them over.”

Athena hadn't visited in person earlier because she was most likely trying to recall the jewelry she had given Elena over the years.
The completion of the list that day, along with a call from Andrew informing her that the Garcias might be trying to replace a way to go abroad, prompted Athena to instruct Ryan to arrive quickly with the list to retrieve the jewelry.
Elena was stunned into silence. Amelia also held her tongue.
Both glanced at each other again, their faces ashen.
Especially Elena, who hadn't ever imagined that Athena might actually take back all the jewelry she had been given before.
She had counted on having those things to survive for a while longer. Now, if they were all taken back...
She wouldn't even have time to react.
Elena realized that day that Andrew wouldn't spare the Garcia family. They would surely end up on the streets with the jewelry no longer in their possession.
"No! Mrs. Miller Senior wouldn't treat me like this. I'm going to call her."
Elena'shook her head in disbelief.
She figured it must be Andrew and Ryan plotting together. She grabbed the phone and dialed Athena's number. However, after two rings, the call was abruptly disconnected. Listening to the monotonous "beep" sound from the phone, Elena felt suffocated. Her chest tightened with anxiety.
