Chapter 117
Time ticked by second by second.
The obstetrician–gynecologist explained the treatment plan to Madelyn, and she noted everything down.
Given Madelyn’s current health condition, the doctor advised her to focus on restoring her health. She emphasized that pregnancy could be life–threatening for women.
Madelyn left the consultation room with her mind in turmoil.
Benson approached her when he saw her pale face and asked, “Mr. Miller just called. Is it serious?”
Hearing that Andrew was asking, Madelyn instinctively shook her head. “It’s nothing serious.”
Although, she said it was nothing, her heart was in knots. She had blood clots in her brain and now faced infertility. How could she be alright?
Benson frowned. “Should we go back now?”
“To the Garcia Manor!” Madelyn said, taking a deep breath.
All she could think about at this moment were the doctor’s words. The doctor had said there was still hope, but the treatment period would be long.
Elena was truly ruthless. Madelyn had once relied on her completely, but she destroyed everything.
When the elevator reached the third floor, someone was waiting to get in.
As the doors opened, a woman’s desperate pleas echoed through the floor. “Dr. Jones, please save Rena. I promise I’ll gather the medical fees. Please talk to the director, I beg you…”
Madelyn looked over and saw Melinda from earlier, kneeling on the ground with Serena. She had humbled herself completely to save her child, yet she was powerless.
Once the people were inside, the elevator doors closed, shutting out the sounds of desperate crying. But Madelyn’s heart ached with deep pain.
Madelyn closed her eyes for a moment when she arrived at the car with Benson. When she opened them, they were clear but glistening with tears.
“Give me a minute.” Without waiting for Benson’s response, she turned and headed back into the hospital.
Benson watched her leave. He didn’t follow but reached for his phone and dialed Andrew’s number.
Outside the doctor’s office on the third floor of the hospital, Serena gently wiped the tears from Melinda’s face. She spoke in a soft sweet voice, “Mommy, let’s go home. I don’t want injections or medicine.”
“Rena, my Rena! I just don’t know what to do to keep you alive…” Melinda’s despair deepened. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Madelyn came out of the elevator to see the heartbreaking scene.
Melinda had been stuck in a pit of despair from earlier until now, yet no one from the doctor’s office had
come out.
Serena continued to comfort Melinda while enduring the pain. Her maturity made her even more pitiable.
Serena noticed Madelyn’s dress while she was standing a short distance away. The girl’s eyes followed up, and she called out, “Mommy!”
Madelyn froze.

Hearing Serena call out, Melinda hugged her tighter. “I’m here. I’ll always be with you.”
Serena patted Melinda’s shoulder, and Melinda finally looked up. She followed Serena’s gaze to Madelyn. Initially shocked, she then lowered her head in embarrassment seeing Madelyn’s gaze.
Madelyn approached them and squatted down to take Serena’s hand. She asked gently, “Does it hurt?” “It doesn’t.” Serena shook her head. But her pale face told a different story–she was enduring significant
pain.
Despite her suffering, she forced herself to bear it to avoid worrying her mother. She was just over two years old.
“I can help you, okay?”
The crying stopped abruptly, and the place fell silent.
