Chapter 146
Eventually, Madelyn started to doze off and fell asleep on
the couch.
In her daze, she felt her phone vibrating once again. Carrie used to say Madelyn had nothing to do since she didn’t have
to work.
But now, Madelyn believed there were more things for her to deal with when she was not working.
She answered groggily, “Hello.”
“Maddie, are you on your way back?”
Amelia’s gentle voice came from the other end of the line. Madelyn’s mind was still hazy, so she couldn’t recall what Amelia was talking about.
The Garcia family was on the brink of ruin at the moment, yet Amelia seemed completely clueless about it.
Madelyn asked dazedly, “What am I going back for?”
On the other end of the phone, Amelia looked at the lawyer who had already arrived. Her face darkened when she heard Madelyn’s question. However, she couldn’t afford to lose her
temper.
That morning, Amelia was still deciding whether to give
Elena’s shares to Madelyn when she heard that Andrew had
Corribily taken Equilwood Village back.
As she didn’t dare to oppose Madelyn at this critical juncture, she immediately contacted the lawyer. Yet, Madelyn didn’t even remember agreeing to return.
Amelia wondered if Madelyn was deliberately stalling so that Andrew could retaliate against them.
The thought of that infuriated Amelia. She had been
annoyed to death by Angeline all morning, and now Madelyn was putting on this act.
Suppressing the urge to grit her teeth, she said, “Didn’t you want Elena’s shares? The lawyer is already here, so hurry back.”
Only then did Madelyn remember that Amelia had said she would give her the shares the day before.
After placing tons of pressure on the Garcias before without any results, she thought it was unexpected that they would call her on their own accord to ask her to return the shares this time.
She hung up on the call and asked Rowan to summon the best lawyer in the company.
Caleb could be scheming against her at this critical juncture, so she must be cautious.
Meanwhile, at the Garcia residence, the atmosphere was particularly heavy. Elena’s eyes were red as she thought about the shares worth millions of dollars in
dividends that were going to belong to Madelyn.
She was unwilling to let Madelyn have them.
Caleb looked gloomy as well.
He glanced at the lawyer and said, “You should head back for today.”
Both Amelia and Elena wordlessly turned to Caleb in confusion. They wondered what he meant by that.
With how badly Matthew and his family were retaliated against, did Caleb still not want to transfer the shares to Madelyn? Wouldn’t this cause severe consequences?
At that moment, Andrew would obediently follow Madelyn’s> advice.
“Caleb, Elena is more important!”
When the lawyer nodded and got up, Amelia snapped at Caleb.
She then told him that Madelyn would be back soon, and if they didn’t compromise now, Elena would pay a heavy price.
Caleb ignored Amelia and turned to the lawyer.
“You may go.”
“Yes, sir!”
The lawyer nodded respectfully and left as per Caleb’s orders.
The already lousy atmosphere became even heavier when only Caleb, Amella, and Elena were left in the living room.
Elena was the most nervous one out of the three.
Madelyn seemed intent on taking everything back, including her shares and everything from Clara.
If they didn’t give them to Madelyn now, wouldn’t that mean that Caleb wanted Elena to spend the rest of her life in prison?
“Caleb, what is the meaning of this?”
Amelia couldn’t figure him out anymore.
When this matter was brought up the day before, Caleb had simply walked away angrily and didn’t seem to want to
discuss it.
Amelia wondered if he wanted to see his beloved daughter
go to prison.
Caleb adjusted his glasses, his gaze behind the lenses dark.
He spoke in a cold, emotionless tone.
“I’ve already made the arrangements. Just cooperate with me later.”
Amelia and Elena were stunned by his words, prompting the former to ask, “What do you mean by that? What did you arrange?”
Caleb’s intense gaze caused her to feel a subtle but
pervasive sense of danger even as his spouse.
