LUCIFER'S HUMAN BRIDE
Chapter 42 SLEEPY LUCINDA

Ralph sat at his desk, going through the files that piled up over the past few days. His eyes flicked to the clock on his desk, and he sighed when he saw that Lucinda was still not here. He wondered what she was doing with Deacon and couldn't help but feel a twinge of annoyance that she was not here on time. "I wonder what they're talking about," he muttered to himself before getting up from his chair and walking out of his office.

As he approached Deacon's gate, he saw Lucinda sleeping in Deacon's arms. Ralph felt his anger flare up at the sight. "Is she nuts? I was waiting for her, and she's here sleeping!" he thought. He walked over to her and put his fingers on her lips. "Shhh," he said, and carried Lucinda in his arms.

"Come back, we need to have a conversation," Deacon said, but Ralph ignored him. He teleported Lucinda to his office and dropped her on the floor. "Ahhh!" she screamed, holding her back in a seductive way.

"Are you here to work or sleep?" Ralph asked, giving her his hand. She hit his hand away and slowly got up, struggling not to fall, and he supported her.

"You are so cruel. I am so sleepy, and you wouldn't let me sleep in peace," she lamented.

"This is a working area, not your father's house," he said, looking at her.

She walked to her desk and sat in her chair, glaring at him. Her eyes slowly closed, and Ralph knew instantly that she was going to sleep again. She placed her head on her table and slept. Ralph shook his head in disbelief. "Look at the person I was hoping I could go check out another volcano with, and she's sleeping."

He teleported back to Deacon. "So, you're here finally. Why are you being harsh on that poor girl?" Deacon asked.

"I am not harsh. I am her boss, and she needs discipline," Ralph stated, looking at him.

"So how is the progress of the sapphire so far?" Deacon inquired.

"Almost close. Lucinda and I found one in the volcano in Hawaii yesterday, but we couldn't get it because I was injured," Ralph sighed.

"Oh, so I am going to be stuck like this forever," Deacon lamented.

"No, you won't. I have been trying my best," Ralph stated.

"Have you made any attempt to look for sapphire today?" Deacon asked.

"No, and that's Lucinda's fault," he stated, and Deacon eyed him.

"Since when did you start depending on Lucinda to go on missions?" Deacon asked.

"She is a skilled fighter. She saved my life yesterday. If not, I would have been a lump of dead meat," Ralph stated.

"Stop exaggerating. You know no one can kill you," Deacon said.

"They can. They wanted to cut my head with an emerald sword, and that would have been the end of me," he said, and Deacon stared at him. "Those demons must be really powerful to have emerald swords anyway. Go take today as your day off," Deacon said, flying away. "Okay," Ralph said, teleporting back to his office.

He saw Mr. Jones poking Lucinda's head as she slept. "Lucinda, Lucinda!" he called, holding a bunch of files.

"Leave her, let her sleep. Give me the files," Ralph said, and Mr. Jones' jaw dropped.

"Are you serious, sir?" he asked, and Ralph took the files and smiled at him.

"You may leave now," he said, and Mr. Jones looked at him before his head hit the office door.

Ralph took out his glasses and started going through the files. "An antidote that will be cool," he said, looking at a file.

Minutes later, "Wake up, you lazy wife!" Lucifer yelled in Lucinda's head. Lucinda growled and held her head.

"Let me sleep. Can't I sleep in peace?" she whined.

"You can't. Are you here to carry out a mission or have fun as a human?" he snapped.

"I am just getting used to human lifestyle," she said, arranging her hair.

"You should be looking for ways to kill that human, and you are there sleeping peacefully like you are on earth to have fun," he declared.

"Let me sleep two minutes," Lucinda said, trying to put her head on her table, and Ralph removed his file from his face and stared at her.

"Get up! You lazy bag of bones," Lucifer said, and Lucinda groaned as she sat up. Her eyes landed on Ralph, who was staring at her. "Oh, you're awake," he said, and she looked at him.

"I'm sorry, sir. This will never happen again," she said nervously.

"It's alright. Take your time. I don't want you going to clubs again. Is that clear?" he asked, and she nodded.

"We are almost through with work. Come and check out our new project," he said, and she walked over to him.

"Was I asleep for that long?" she asked, and he stared at her.

"Definitely," he replied with a grin.

"Here is the deal. The new project of our company is an antidote," he said, lifting the file.

"What's the antidote for?" she asked.

"It's like a chemical we're working on. Once we spray the chemical on any demon, they will grow powerless and weak for two minutes. By then, we would have overpowered them," he stated. "Smart," Lucinda beamed.

"Yes, right. Deacon came up with the idea."

"You guys have been trying to catch demons for years. I think this antidote will be a great start," Lucinda stated.

"We have all the ingredients except one," Ralph stated.

"And what's that one?" she asked.

"It's the horn of a demon. We need it. It's like the most important ingredient in the whole project," he replied.

"We can't get the horn that easily," she said.

"That's why I need you. As long as I have you, we can do it together," he said, placing his hands on hers, and they both stared into each other's eyes. A smile curved on Lucinda's face. "I'm in," she muttered, and he returned her smile.

"Let's go eat and go home. And remember, no clubbing," he stated.

"Noted," Lucinda replied.

"Not noted. Stick it to your skull," he said, and she made gestures behind him.
