Lycanthropy
Chapter Sixteen

A few days later:

I haven’t been talking to my wolf Winston for days now. He had betrayed me, by communicating with her wolf, while I had told him that we didn’t need a mate. He went around my back, and now he has to face the consequences.

But still, she had acknowledged her attraction to me, the mate bond that had been seen by our wolves, the moment we saw each other. To be honest, Winston has been restless, the moment we had been informed of a powerful female Alpha. Did he knew it back then already, without even seeing, or smell her?

So, why didn’t I recognize the bond earlier? Why didn’t she react to our touch, or our smell? Hell, why didn’t I react to her? Why did only our wolves connected the dots?

She did reject me though. Not in the formal way, to reject me by using the words to sever the bond, but by walking away. It hurt me a lot, that even though she recognized us to be mates, she still chose to walk away. Her determination to not want to mate with me, to not get marked, is upsetting me, to say the least.

I was looking at my phone. My Beta found out her number and had given it to me, and ever since she has been gone, I was considering whether or not I should call or text her. But the longer I postponed my actions, the more awkward it would become, to start a conversation about it.

Still undecided, I put my phone in my pocket and went to the meeting that was about to start in ten minutes.

As I sat there, at the head of the table, listening to the council and hearing out their list of demands, my mind slowly drifted away. I couldn’t think straight, her exposed skin, the white fur, her dark eyes… everything… left me hypothesising how she would look like, from underneath that black satin clothes, that she wore at the ball.

Her strong character, that little over the top arrogance, and determination, all made sense to her body. And me.

I don’t care that she is so completely aware of her power, and thus knows what she is capable of. Besides her arrogance, and the fact that she knows that her strength and Alpha command strikes fear upon those who want to hurt her, she isn’t uncontrollable.

That specific word, uncontrollable, is the word that she mumbled when she got so angry. She thought that I catalogued her as a rabid creature, but that is not what I wanted to at all. From the moment I had seen her react to those men in the ball room, I knew she wasn’t uncontrollable, otherwise her Lycan would’ve come out to kill them.

No, she was in complete control of it. Capable of only shifting the parts of her body into the Lycan, that she wanted. I know I am capable of shifting partly into my wolf, but it takes a lot of my mental strength to do that. It is one of the most hard things to do, to let your wolf only take over, over that part of your body, which you wanted it to. And now that I’ve seen her do it, not to her wolf, but to her Lycan, she has caught my complete interest.

“Alpha King?” One of the councillors said.

“Yes, please continue.” I said, wanting to not sound as if I wasn’t listening.

There were light chuckles to be heard, and I frowned upon them.

“We came to the last subject of our agenda my King. The female Alpha.” He said.

“What about her?”

“We have seen her transform, and the tremble of her growls were heard through most of our palace. You know we have to do something about her, before the situation… escalates.” He said carefully.

I didn’t like this councillor, he is a snake. Somehow with his words, he never directly insults someone, or accuses someone of a crime, but he manages to make others do that. He twists other people’s words and turns them so, that the one he wants to get rid of, is accused by the other person’s, own words.

And just as he used the word ‘escalates’ in his sentence, he indirectly assumes that she will get in a raging state of killing mode, someday. But he doesn’t say it, directly, as if he is accusing her. By using these words, he implies that we might be in danger, if she won’t be controlled or killed. But by leaving a gap for imagination, others will react to his words in a negative way.

“Yes, my King, you know that Lycan’s are rabid. She could kill a lot of people, when angered.” Another councillor said.

Just as I predicted, I sighed. The snake managed it again, to let someone else do the accusations, and make direct assumptions.

“Have you seen her shift completely? Have you seen her kill on first sight?” I asked them.

They all looked at each other, waiting for someone to answer my questions.

“My King, it would be best to make preparations, in case of any danger. Why don’t we keep two or three warriors close to her, to keep an eye on her?” The snake said.

Again, no accusations, not making assumptions, but…

“Yes, that in case she does completely shift, in an act of anger, we would get informed immediately!” One of the female councillors said.

…there is the accusation.

I hate this man, but I can’t get rid of him easily. Becoming part of our council, requires years and years of participation in pack meetings, on a political level. Eventually when a chair opens, many days of voting take place and upon reaching a final contestant, the whole council has to agree as one, that a new person can join in. And so it has to be the same, when someone is being asked to leave.

Unless the person gets killed, or dies of old age, the chair remains seated, unless the complete council agrees upon demoting that specific person. Which will never happen if I just ask them to. I have to have a damn good reason to get him out of my council, because even as the King, I can’t command on something like this.

Technically I could of course, but then my council wouldn’t be trustworthy to me anymore, and I would have crossed my pack as well, as they have participated in the initial voting to get him here.

“Fine, but my Gamma and two warriors will be the ones to do it, and they report to me directly.” I said.

“Why not to us? I’m sure you have a busy schedule already, my King.” The snake said.

I’m not going to tell them that the Alpha female is my mate, not now, not until she publicly recognizes me as such. And if I let my Gamma report to the council, they might get hold of what is going on. Also, if I were to be the second to hear the information, I’m sure it will be contorted, to not giving me the whole truth.

I wiped my hand over my face, tired of these politically correct statements.

“No, councillor Drake. My Gamma reports to me.” I said.

“But…”

“Don’t push your limits!” I growled.

“I would never, my King.” Drake said.

I stood up from my chair, not wanting to see that face again, and walked out of the room.

And there I was again, laying on my bed, looking at the screen of my phone. Aimlessly turning it around between my thumb and middle finger.

Should I send a message, or should I not?
