Ada's mother would not have realized that this filthy, unkempt woman before her was Ada if she had not taken a closer look at her! If Madeline had not seen it for herself, she would not have known that Carter was truly a man who would be willing to do anything.

Ada flinched in panic at her mother's feet, pulling at the legs of her mother's trousers.

"Mom, please take me home. I want to go home! I don't want to be a Viscountess anymore. I just want to be treated as a human being now!"

Ada gasped as she begged her mother. Cautiously, she lifted her eyes to look at Carter.

Ada shuddered once again when she met his dark gaze.

Ada's mother remained stunned for a while before she regained her senses and bent down to help Ada up.

She pushed Ada's messy and dirty hair out aside and took a long look at Ada's face, which had not been washed in days. Once again, she was dumbstruck.

"Ada, what happened to you..." she asked. She then abruptly raised her head and glared at Carter questioningly. "Carter, how could you torture Ada like this?! She's your wife. Even if she made a mistake, you should tolerate her!"

"Wife? I have never considered her as my wife," Carter retorted in a cold tone without thinking. "In my eyes, she's nothing more than a tool that was used to set up an arranged marriage."

"You..." Ada's mother had not expected Carter to express those words so bluntly.

She wanted to retort, but Ada clutched her sleeve firmly and pleaded repeatedly, "Don't say anything else. Just take me home quickly!"

"Alright, I'll bring you home immediately! Let me see who still dares to bully you!" Ada's mother responded aggressively. She helped Ada stand up and made a move to leave.

Without warning, Carter let out an uncanny snicker. "As an arsonist who has killed two people, do you think you'd be allowed to leave?"

Ada's foot abruptly shrank back. Even though Carter's claims were true, she would never confess.

At this point, the police had already processed Madeline's report and rushed over to Gray Villa.

When Ada saw that the police officer was about to handcuff her, she immediately put on an expression of grief and began yelling at Carter. "Carter! You may have never regarded me as your wife, but that doesn't give you the right to slander me like this! And you, Eveline, what evidence do you have? How can you convict me with mere words and your so-called intuition? This is absurd! I'm innocent, Officer. You cannot arrest me."

"Ada, you're the one who's being absurd."

Madeline overturned Ada's lies without hesitation.

"To prevent Adam from healing Shirley's legs and face, you irrationally set a fire to kill Adam and Cathy. With Adam dead, Shirley will become what you hoped. She'll remain in her current condition for the rest of her life."

Carter listened at the side as Madeline revealed Ada's motive. The uncanny smile on his face gradually gave way to a cold and dark expression accompanied by a hint of murderous intent.

Ada could sense Carter's unhappiness. Despite trembling in fear, she clung firmly to her protest.

"That's nonsense, Eveline! Is this an act of animosity on your part toward me? Why must you slander me this way? I, Ada, have never committed anything immoral!

"I'm not even acquainted with Adam and Cathy. Carter had not allowed me anywhere near the house they lived in. I've never even been there. How could I have started the fire?

"Eveline, you keep on claiming that I did it. What evidence do you have? Are you presenting the nonsense that you speak as evidence?"

"Of course, I have evidence, given that I've made such a bold statement,

"

The moment Madeline uttered those words, Ada's arrogant and ferocious face froze instantly.

'There's evidence?

'Did Eveline have evidence that I started the fire?

'How is that possible? 'This is impossible!'

Ada's eyes flitted as she got increasingly flustered.
