Madeline Crawford and Jeremy Whitman -
Chapter 2031
Lillian clearly heard Fabian's eager voice on the other end of the phone. She also understood what Fabian wanted her to do, and her cute little mouth moved. Shirley also looked at Lillian's cute little face expectantly, waiting for her to speak.
However, at this moment, Shirley heard the sound of the door opening from the hallway.
She realized that Carter might be back, and her heart leaped.
"Lily, hurry up and say 'Mommy' or 'Daddy' to the guy on the phone. Otherwise, it'll be too late!"
Shirley urged urgently, and at the same time, she heard the door opening.
Lillian looked at Shirley blankly and moved her cute little pink lips. "Dad..."

The moment Lillian had said that, Shirley reached out and snatched the receiver from Lillian's hand and quickly put it back on the landline.
Lillian looked at Shirley and blinked her eyes curiously, then her clear eyes shifted to Carter who had entered from the hallway.
The doubts in her blank eyes started to dissipate gradually.
However, Carter, with his keen observation skill, glanced at the nearly untouched breakfast, and then his sharp gaze fell on the landline next to the sofa.
"What are you doing here?" Carter asked, his tone was indifferent.
Shirley felt a little guilty, but she restrained her anxiety and looked at Lillian with a smile.
"Where should I be if not here? You locked the door to prevent me from going out. Is it wrong for me to hang around the house now? If you don't want to see me, you can lock me in the room and never let me out of that cage."
Carter's expression did not change as he listened to Shirley's rebuke.
Shirley did not know what Carter was thinking, and she did not even know whether Fabian believed what she said. At this moment, she was very anxious, so she reached out and patted Lillian on the shoulder.
"Lily, go back to the room with me. There is someone here who doesn't want to see us."
Of course, Lillian listened to Shirley. She nodded, then followed Shirley and turned around.
When she turned around, she did not forget to reach out her little hand and grab the breakfast on the coffee table before handing it to Shirley.
Shirley had not expected Lillian to be so caring even when she was so young. She smiled and took the breakfast. An unprecedented sweetness surged into her heart.
Carter calmly watched Shirley leading Lillian into the room. He then put his long legs forward and casually picked up the landline receiver on the cabinet before pressing the redial button.
On the other end of the phone, Fabian had already turned the car around and was speeding down the road when the phone rang again.
The number displayed on the screen was the landline phone just now.
Even though it had been just for a second, he did hear her!
He heard Lillian's voice, and she so clearly and melodically called out "Dad."
It was Lillian.
He did not know who the woman who called him was just now, but he was certain that Lillian was at the place the woman mentioned. That was why he was rushing over hurriedly. Presently, the phone rang again. He looked at the number and answered without hesitating.
"Hello? Is this Lily? Lily?" Fabian questioned urgently.
When Carter, who held the receiver on the other end, heard Fabian's voice, his dark gaze darkened further. Saying nothing, he slowly placed the receiver back to where it was, then simply yanked the telephone cord out. He seemed to furrow his long eyebrows in annoyance before he strode to the bedroom.
After picking up the phone, it hung up unfathomably again, so Fabian immediately knew something was amiss. However, he did not have a choice now, and he could only increase his speed and rush toward his destination. The address Shirley had told him was a little far from where he was now, but he was frantic right now.
