Man With Super Medical Skill (Matthew) -
Chapter 3168 Airport Pickup
In Hulwin, Matthew had risen early and begun preparing breakfast for Sasha.
The phone rang suddenly. Matthew, wearing only a shirt, hurriedly set the pan down, scooped out the eggs, sprinkled a bit of sugar on them, and then turned to answer the call.
"Hey, Matthew, I just arrived at Hulwin Airport. Come pick me up." Helen's sharp voice came through the line, and Matthew held the phone a little further from his ear.
He placed the sandwiches and eggs with milk on the dining table, changed into the suit he had worn out with Sasha the night before, and drove a Maybach to the airport. His mother-in-law was very particular about appearances, and he figured she would nag him endlessly if he didn't make a good impression.
At Hulwin Airport, Helen stood at the arrivals area, holding a small suitcase, wearing sunglasses that covered half her face and a round hat on her head.
"Ma'am, would you like a ride? Our cars are cheap and comfortable," a man said as he approached Helen.
"No need. My son-in-law is a big shot. He'll be here to pick me up soon. I don't want to ride in your shabby taxis," Helen replied, her tone dripping with pride when she spoke of Matthew, completely ignoring how she once lamented his shortcomings.
"You're not fooling anyone, ma'am. You've been standing here for ten minutes. If your son-in-law were really such a big shot, would he make you wait this long?" The driver looked at Helen, who didn't seem to have any air of a successful person, and thought she was just putting on a show.
Helen felt a twinge of irritation at the driver's words. She had been waiting for ten minutes already, and Matthew still hadn't arrived. Of course, Helen being Helen, she failed to consider the airport was a good 25 miles from the city center, and no matter how fast the car drove, it couldn't cover the distance in such a short time.
"Just wait and see. My son-in-law will be here soon. Don't be intimidated when he arrives," Helen said, leaving the driver and taking a seat on a bench in the shade.
The driver said nothing and sat on a bench across from her. He was curious to see what kind of impressive son-in-law Helen had and what extraordinary qualities he might possess.
As time passed and the sun rose higher, the driver checked the time-25 minutes had passed.
"Ma'am, it's been almost half an hour, and your big-shot son-in-law still hasn't shown up. He's not too embarrassed to show up, is he?" The driver's voice, tinged with barely concealed amusement and sarcasm, expressed his disdain for people who pretended to be wealthy.
Helen's expression grew increasingly unpleasant. Where the heck is Matthew? Does he still regard me as his mother-in-law or not?
Suddenly, the deafening roar of a car engine filled the air as a vehicle that looked like a black beast pulled up in front of Helen. The gleaming Maybach emblem on the massive car was so dazzling in the sunlight that the taxi driver couldn't look directly at it.
The car door opened, and Matthew, dressed in a sleek black suit, stepped out. Seeing Helen, he said, "Sorry for the delay, Mom. There was some traffic, and with this expensive car, people tend to keep their distance."
Helen's face immediately brightened into a smile, her earlier complaints forgotten. A Maybach was clearly not cheap.
Matthew put Helen's luggage in the trunk and then got into the driver's seat. Helen slid into the back seat, giving the driver a disdainful look as she did.
The car drove off, leaving the driver staring blankly. After a long pause, he finally muttered, "D*mn, I've just seen a real tycoon today."
