Man With Super Medical Skill (Matthew) -
Chapter 3226 The Evil of the Gloam Division
"But unfortunately for you... your time is up."
In the darkness, the eyes of the two patrolling soldiers widened in fear, their first instinct to scream for help. But a large hand had already clamped down over their mouths, forcefully twisting their heads to the side. Crack!
The sharp sound of bones snapping echoed in the night as the light faded from the eyes of the two Gloam Division soldiers. Their lifeless bodies slumped to the ground, and Mortimer dragged them into a nearby bush before continuing his stealthy advance.
As Mortimer passed by various rooms, he began to feel a twinge of regret. He should have kept one of the soldiers alive to extract information about the Gloam Division's leadership locations before killing them.
Not far ahead, two more beams of light pierced the darkness. Mortimer's eyes gleamed. It seemed fortune was on his side.
"D*mn it, those b*stards are inside playing with women-if not, the brothels and here we are, stuck patrolling," one of the soldiers grumbled, his flashlight lazily sweeping back and forth.
"No choice, man. We didn't grease the right palms. Let's finish up this patrol quickly so we can take a break."
The two Gloam Division soldiers chatted casually, unaware of the danger creeping up on them.
"Does your superior really make you bribe him?" a raspy voice asked from the shadows.
"Yeah, that old fox is always looking for ways to squeeze us."
"No women, no money..."
As the two continued their conversation, they suddenly realized that there shouldn't be anyone else on patrol with them. Where had that voice come from?
As the eerie realization sank in, they felt a pair of wrinkled hands rest on their shoulders. "No need to worry, boys. Cooperate with me, and nothing will happen to you."
The soldiers quickly pulled their uniforms over their heads, their voices muffled as they stammered, "Sir, ask whatever you want. We didn't see anything tonight."
Mortimer quirked a brow at their reaction. He hadn't expected to replace such straightforward men within the Gloam Division, especially ones who believed that hiding their faces might save their lives. "Where is your commander?"
"Commander Kurtis Hale is in the
innermost residence. His brother is
with him," one of the soldiers answered quickly. Then, as if remembering something important, he added, "Sir, the Gloam Division's upper ranks are all staying in the residences around the command center. You can replace them there."
In the darkness, Mortimer considered their words, his mind racing. These soldiers seemed different from the Gloam Division's typical corrupt and brutal members. For a moment, he debated whether to let them live. But then his sharp eyes caught a glimpse of a gold watch on one soldier's wrist. Despite being cleaned meticulously, it still bore traces of blood.
"Sigh, if only you'd known better..." Mortimer said softly, the weight of his words sinking in.
The soldiers, sensing the change in tone, began to panic. One of them tried to shout, "Intrud" but his cry was cut off as Mortimer's hands tightened around their throats.
Mortimer's gaze was cold and unyielding. He had no time for mercy. With a slight increase in pressure, a soft crack sounded as their necks snapped, and the two soldiers stopped struggling.
Gently laying the bodies aside, Mortimer reminded himself, "Show no mercy to anyone in the Gloam Division, not even to a dog."
He continued moving through the
shadows, his figure slipping from one dark corner to another. Along the way, he heard the sounds of women weeping and crying out in despair from some of the rooms. Though his instincts urged him to act he steeled his resolve. His primary mission was to eliminate the Gloam Division's leadership. Until that objective was achieved, everything else had to wait.
