Man With Super Medical Skill (Matthew)
Chapter 3255 The Gloam Division Is Out of Money

Outside the fortified gates of Thorneville, the temporary headquarters of the Gloam Division was abuzz with tension. Inside a makeshift tent, Rocco was absorbed in the quarterly financial report, his brow furrowed in concern. "Our current supplies can only last us three more days?" he asked, his voice a mix of disbelief and frustration.

The supply officer, standing at attention, nodded gravely. "I'm afraid so, Commander. We used to receive our funding two days before the end of each month. But this month, it hasn't arrived. I made inquiries, but it seems all our usual contributors have shuttered their businesses."

His face mirrored the gravity of the situation. In the past, companies had been prompt with their payments, driven by the Gloam Division's formidable reputation or notoriety. Now, with those companies closed, there was no way to retrieve the funds personally. "The troops are growing restless," the officer continued, a hint of unease in his tone. "Some of them are even saying..."

Rocco furrowed his brow and asked, "Saying what?"

A knot of worry tightened in his chest. The Gloam Division was a blade when well-fed but a potential threat when starving. A starving force could easily turn on its leaders, demanding new leadership capable of satisfying their needs.

"Have the previous contributions been fully accounted for?" Rocco pressed.

The supply officer's face turned to a grimace.

"Commander Rocco, those

contributions amounted to only a few hundred thousand, and we only got to keep a fraction of that. It's nowhere near enough to sustain our operations. The rumors are already spreading. Some say that after Commander Hale's death, the Gloam Division is doomed." He swallowed hard. "Others are questioning your ability to lead, sir.

There's even talk of replacing you."

The words struck Rocco like a bolt of lightning. His brow tightened, and his hand left deep indentations on the wooden desk.

"Check again. See if those businesses are still registered under the bank's name," Rocco ordered, his voice cold and firm. He rubbed his temples, feeling the weight of the situation.

The eyes of the world were upon the Gloam Division, and he had been enforcing strict discipline on his men. No looting, no random killing or raping.

Such regulations, though standard in a regular army, felt overly harsh to the Gloam Division, which grumbled about the stricter measures compared to the more lenient ones under Kurtis Hale.

Rocco cursed under his breath,

frustrated by the ignorance of his men. When Gadel's hold on the throne was precarious, he needed a special operations force to eliminate his enemies. During the purges, as long as one performed their duties well—even if it meant indiscriminate killing-the king would turn a blind eye.

Why else would Gadel have

Now, Rocco understood the harsh truth. The Gloam Division was nothing more than a disposable tool for Gadel, to be discarded at will. Its role was no longer as critical as before, and its disadvantages now outweighed its benefits.

A chill ran down Rocco's spine. The naive prince he had once known had become a master strategist, inscrutable and ruthless. If the Gloam Division reverted to its old ways now, it would only hasten its own demise. The Aerial Legion stood ready to replace them.
