Married On Paper To The Billionaire
Chapter 30: Story Time…

"You have to do something about this, Kane. People are beginning to talk."

"What do you want me to do?"

"Plead with Emilia again until she allows you back into the mansion. Living in your condo like this won't solve anything." "Living with her won't solve anything either. This is all my fault, so let me carry my cross alone, Lillian. Thanks, by the way." "Don't thank me. I was the one that let that sneaky viper into our house. I still can't believe it. How could she do that to you?" "Still my fault. I let my guard down."

"I always knew there was something sinister about that girl but I didn't expect her to go that far."

"Well, the deed is done. Let's refocus our attention on replaceing Tiara and bringing this nightmare to an end."

Lillian sighed. "Gosh, Kane. It's been nearly three months since she went missing. We should have found her by now."

"Trust me, this is the most frustrating experience of my life. I never knew that there was something my endless supply of money couldn't get me."

"Unfortunately, Detective Riley was right. Everyone coming forward with information is just sending the police on more wild goose chases. They're just after the reward money."

It was Kane's turn to sigh. "At this point, we may have to prepare our minds for the worst."

"Oh, no. Please, don't say that. Don't tell me you're giving up already."

"I'm exhausted. The longer it takes to replace her, the less likely it is that we will."

"Listen, big brother, I need you to drop those negative thoughts and start thinking positively. We will replace Tiara and my money is on that vindictive Banks woman." "I feel so too."

"It's too much of a coincidence that she's suddenly disappeared into thin air as soon as Tiara went missing. She had something to do with it."

"But there's still the issue of how Tiara left the house. Joyce didn't have access to the mansion let alone the nursery. How did she abduct the child? Who helped her?"

The email notification on his laptop beeped and he glanced at it. His blood boiled when he saw the name of the sender.

His first instinct was to delete the email without reading it, but curiosity got the better of him. He tapped on the email and it opened.

"Let me tell you a story," he read aloud.

"Huh?" Asked Lillian.

"I'm reading an email from Serena."

"What the hell! The nerve of that girl!"

Kane chuckled. "She's a stubborn creature, alright. She's just looking for attention."

"What's the email about?"

"This is the story of a princess who lived in a huge castle," he continued reading. "The castle was like a fortress with lots of guards and attentive servants"

"Oh, please..." Lillian groaned and rolled her eyes.

"The princess in the castle had a twin brother. They slept in the same room and played together. The king's sister had a special servant who worked in the castle. She loved the king even though he was still married to the ugly queen." "Wait..."

Kane ignored his sister and kept reading the story. "The servant knew someone whom the king had hurt in the past. She felt sorry for this person and promised to help them. The servant waited for the perfect time to sneak into the twins' room and steal the pretty princess who looked so much like the king."

"Oh, my god!" Lillian gasped.

"She stuffed the sleeping princess inside her big carry-on bag and fled the castle. When she reached a short distance, she met with the king's enemy and gave the princess to her to replace their lost child. The end." "That bitch! It was her! Kane, it was Serena. She kidnapped Tiara and gave her to Joyce!"

Kane was livid. He felt the urge to grab Serena's neck and snap the bones into tiny pieces. So, it had been her all along and he'd had sex with her. He'd slept with his daughter's abductor!

"I'm forwarding this email to Detective Riley right away," he said. "In the meantime, let's keep this between us for now. I don't want Emilia or Mother to hear about it yet."

"They won't. What's your plan?"

"I'm going to that wretch's house with the police, of course. She will rot in jail for this!"

"That may not be a good move. She's probably expecting you to go there after reading the email."

"So?"

"It may be a trap. Why would she confess to this crime knowing that she'd end up in jail afterwards? Serena isn't a fool. She's up to something."

Kane paused to think. His sister was right. Serena was up to something and she was playing a game with him.

"I think we should wait for the police to arrest and interrogate her before we make any move," Lillian suggested.

Thirty-five minutes later, Kane got the call he'd been expecting since he sent Serena's email to Detective Riley. She'd been arrested and was being questioned at the police station.

What he did not expect to hear was that she was demanding to see him before she answered their questions.

"Why?"

"I don't know. She said she'll tell you whatever you want to know but she will not talk to the police. Perhaps you should come here and listen to what she has to say. We might glean some key information from her confessions." "Fine," Kane agreed reluctantly. "I'll be on my way now."

When he got to the holding cell where she was being kept, he fought the urge to pounce on her and beat the crap out of her. He'd never laid hands on a woman but Serena might be the one to make him break that record. "Thank you for coming," she said brightly as if she was hosting a fancy tea party.

"Why did you do it?" He asked angrily.

"Oh, no dilly-dallying, I see."

"I'm not here to play games with you, Serena. Why did you kidnap my daughter and give her to Joyce Banks?"

She sighed dramatically. "It's your wife's fault?"

"My wife? What has she got to do with this?"

"She keeps ruining my fairy tales. She was the one I wanted to hurt, not you."

"What you're saying doesn't make sense. Emilia doesn't even know you. Why would you want to hurt someone you have no business with?"

"As I said before, I've always had a crush on you. I believed that you and Kendra Banks were the most perfect couple alive. If I couldn't have you, it was ok if KB did."

Kane sighed and ran a hand through his hair impatiently. He was doing his best to hold it together but if Serena kept saying all this nonsense, he might lose his cool and harm her.

"But then, you broke up with her and married that - "

"If you insult my wife, I will do something that both of us will regret. Keep my wife out of your stupid story and get to the point."

"Fine. Anyway, I was angry when you married her because I believed that you deserved better. Luckily, you came to your senses and divorced her and KB squared came back alive." "What's that?"

"KB squared was coined by Kendra's fans. It's an abbreviation of your name and hers. Kane Beaumont and Kendra Banks. That's KB in two places, get it?"

"I'm still waiting to hear how this concerns my wife or my missing daughter."

"Well, when you reconciled with your wife and kicked Kendra out of your life, I felt betrayed. Why would you end something so beautiful to be with that woman who didn't hold a candle to Kendra?" "I'm warning you, Serena..."

"Whatever. Anyway, I was pissed, of course. And then, Kendra's mum never got justice for her daughter's tragic death. She was mocked and called all sorts of names. It was unfair."

"So, you decided to get her justice."

"Yes. When Lillian hired me to work at the mansion, I knew it was a sign. It was my golden opportunity to get closer to you and make you fall in love with me."

"You're crazy."

"Yes, Kane Beaumont. I'm crazy about you and I'm willing to do anything to have you. I shouldn't have orchestrated your daughter's abduction but I wanted to do something that would tear you and your wife apart. When that happens, I'd come into the picture and heal your broken heart."

"You're a lunatic and you belong in jail. All I want to know right now is where my daughter is and how I can get her back. I don't give a damn about all the nonsense you've been saying."

"I know you want your daughter back but I honestly don't know where she is. I didn't even ask Joyce where she was taking the child or what she'd do to her."

"You animal!" He growled and got to his feet. "I'll make sure you never step foot out of jail for the rest of your miserable life."

"You can't do that to me. I love you. Everything I ever did was to get close to you and it worked. We ended up making love, didn't we?"

"Shut your mouth," he hissed. He didn't want the police to hear this part of the conversation because he knew they were listening and watching this exchange through the two-way mirror on the wall.

"This is as close as you'll ever get to me. I'll let the police take over from here and I'm sure that by the time they're done with you, you'll be singing like a bird."

"Oh, I'll sing alright," she said sharply. Her sweet, sober tone was gone. "I'll sing a song about how the king spent a night sleeping with his sister's servant while his wife why lying in bed sick and mourning the disappearance of their daughter." "Is that a threat? It's not a big deal anymore. Thanks to you, my wife already knows the truth so you can't threaten me with it anymore."

Serena grinned. "Your wife knows the truth but does the police know too? What about the public? What will they think of the righteous and respected billionaire who cheats on his wife under the same roof while their daughter is missing?" Kane was so angry, he didn't even know what to say. He bunched his fingers into fists but he couldn't use them because he would get into trouble if he did.

"I don't have anything to lose, Kane," Serena continued with a happy smile. "I might spend the rest of my life behind bars, but you... your image and your marriage will never recover if I tell the world what I know."
