Married On Paper To The Billionaire -
Chapter 64: Happily Ever After
Emilia's road to recovery was a slow and painful one. After six weeks, she was moved to a regular private ward where she got around in a wheelchair. "The doctors believe that your spine injury has healed enough for you to begin physical therapy," Kane announced to her one afternoon. "That's good news," she smiled.
"Yes. Who knows, you might get back on your feet in time for the twin's fourth birthday."
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, please."
Kane placed his hand on hers and squeezed it gently. "I am not afraid to hope, Emilia."
She shrugged. "Sometimes, hope ends up in disappointment."
"Don't say that. I believe you'll walk again."
His phone buzzed. He checked it and got on his feet. "Sorry, my love. This is an important business call."
"You don't need my permission to answer your phone, Kane. Go ahead and take the call but do it outside. I think I'll take a nap," she said and yawned.
He pecked her on the cheek and hurried out of the room. Emilia got comfortable on her bed and closed her eyes to sleep.
Just as she began to drift into sleep, she thought she heard the door opening. "That was quick," she mumbled with her eyes still closed.
There was no response but she heard a soft rattling of metal against metal. Could that be a nurse bringing her lunch?
But she'd already eaten and they usually used plastic trays and utensils, not metal. And why wasn't the nurse saying anything?
Emilia opened her eyes and gasped immediately. The nurse was standing beside her bed and holding a carving knife above her head.
As she lowered her hand to stab Emilia, her survival instincts kicked in and she shifted away seconds before the blade sank into the pillow where her head had been.
"Die, you bitch!" The murderous nurse growled and removed the knife from the pillow. She came after Emilia again but she was interrupted when the door swung open.
"What the - "Kane's mobile phone dropped from his hand when he saw what was happening.
"Help!" Emilia screamed as she rolled off the bed and landed on the floor.
The raging woman lunged across the bed, going after her but Kane had seen enough. He dove after the woman, grabbing one of her chubby ankles and dragging her backward with the bed.
She retaliated by switching her target and swung the blade at Kane, slicing a gash across his upper arm. He groaned and captured the woman's hand and twisted it.
"Agh!" She screamed as her wrist shifted from its socket. She quickly dropped the knife and it landed on the floor beside Kane's feet.
With his other hand, he ripped the nose mask that was covering the fake nurse's face. The material came off easily, revealing the identity of the attacker.
"Lupe!" he gasped.
"Yes, it's me," she answered nastily.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Getting my own pound of flesh, you bastard!"
A real nurse came into the room and squealed with shock when she saw what was happening in the room. "Oh, my goodness! What is happening here?"
"This woman here tried to stab my wife."
"Oh, dear. You're bleeding, Mr Beaumont. Are you ok, Mrs Beaumont?"
"Not really," Emilia replied from the floor where she was still lying in terror.
"Call security!" Kane ordered the nurse and she hurried out of the room immediately.
"Let me go!" Lupe yelled at him.
Kane glowered at her. "You have got some nerve... How dare you try this nonsense?" "What? Did you think I would let you get away with what you did to Serena?" "Whatever happened to Serena was a product of her devious actions."
"Lies! All she ever did was love you and you repaid her affection by destroying her life!"
"You as just as delusional as she is. Both of you should be roommates in the mental hospital."
"Do you even know what has happened to her there? She has lost her mind completely, ripping out her hair with her bare hands, slamming her head on the floor and screaming out your name every day. She doesn't even recognize me anymore."
Kane was horrified by this information. "So, how is any of that Emilia's fault?"
'Lupe whipped her head in Emilia's direction to pin her with a murderous stare. "If it wasn't for her, Serena would have stood a chance with you. She stole my daughter's dream life!"
Two security men showed up with the nurse trailing behind them.
"We've called the police," one of them announced and approached Kane and 'Lupe. "You can hand her over to us now."
"Please, keep her detained until the police arrive. I don't want her to break free and return here to attempt to murder my wife again."
"Trust us, sir. She won't get away from us."
"Like she did the first time?" He asked sardonically. "How did she get away with this disguise? Where did she get the nurse uniform from?" "She probably broke into our locker room," the nurse explained.
"Alright, ma'am. Off we go," said the security man who now has 'Lupe in his grip.
"I'm not done with you two," she growled at Kane and then she looked at Emilia and said, "Not nearly done."
She was dragged away while Kane and the nurse hurried to where Emilia lay on the floor to help her get back on the bed.
"We're so sorry about this," the nurse apologized. "I have already reported this incident to the hospital management and the medical director is already on his way here."
Another nurse showed up with Emilia's afternoon medication and the first one filled her in on the situation. While the first nurse left to get the first aid kit to treat Kane's injuries, the second one assisted Emilia with taking her drugs. When they were alone again, Kane sat beside her bed and took her hand in his again.
"Sorry about that," he said.
She sighed. "Thank you for saving my life yet again. You're officially my knight in shining armor, my personal superhero."
He smiled. "I'm always at your command, milady."
"Gosh, that was a close call. I was already falling asleep when she came in. I thought it was you."
"That crazy woman is as demented as her foster daughter. Did you hear what she said happened to Serena?"
"Yes. I know this might sound ridiculous, but I actually feel sorry for her."
"Oh, well... I'm starting to think that she was never right in the head from the beginning, and I don't even mean that in a bad way."
"I think you're right and I think it's time for me to continue my recovery at home. I'm not sure I'll survive a third murder attempt. That would be me pushing my luck too far."

"Still... I want to go home. I can continue my physical therapy there and be closer to my babies. I miss them so much, you know."
"Alright, baby. Let's go home."
"But you'll have to deal with that gash on your arm first."
"Uh, yeah. I forgot all about it."
She gasped. "Did you just say, yeah? I spent what, seven, eight years making sure I always say yes because you told me that's how billionaires speak and then you go and say it?" Kane laughed. "I never said that was how billionaires talked. I only said you should speak properly."
"I see... Mr Ice is starting to thaw. It only took you nearly a decade."
"Stop teasing me, Emilia," he laughed.
The nurse returned and told him to get off the bed and sit on the chair beside it. When she began to treat his injury, the medical director came in with two other top members of the hospital management. Emilia yawned. She knew this was about to be a long windy apology speech from the hospital's head honchos and she wasn't ready to hear any of it. She closed her eyes and finally let herself sink into slumber.

"Happy birthday to you!" Everyone cheered and the twins giggled happily as they blew out the candles on their four-tier birthday cake.
"Cake!" Crystabel yelled and the cheers died down instantly.
Lillian took a step toward her daughter and whispered, "What did you say, honey?"
Crystabel grinned at her mother and said, "Cake! Cake!"
"Oh, my God! You're talking. Crystabel, you said cake!"
She grabbed her daughter and embraced her tightly. After years of speech therapy and several attempts to get a word out of Crystabel, it has finally happened.
"This is incredible," Elsie said and wiped a tear from her eye with her pink handkerchief that matched her Dior dress perfectly.
"Miracles really do happen," Kane sighed.
"Speaking of miracles..." Emilia said and wheeled herself in her wheelchair to the middle of the family room in the Beaumont mansion where the intimate party was happening.
"First of all, I want to thank everyone here for standing by me in the last couple of months as I slowly recovered from the injuries I sustained from an accident that should have killed me. Second, I am thankful for Kane's unwavering support for me even at times when it wasn't convenient."
The women in the room were already wiping away tears from their eyes as Emilia continued to speak.
"Kane Beaumont, we got off on a rocky start but the last few years have shown me that whatever is meant to be is worth fighting for. I love you with all of my heart and never again will I doubt your love for me."
"I love you too, Emilia," he said tenderly. "being with you has taught me that love may not always be easy but if it's true, it will stand the test of time and any obstacles that come along."
"Aw... this is so beautiful to witness," Lara said and sniffled. "kiss her already, Kane."
"Uh-uh, not yet," Emilia said. "I have a surprise for everyone first."
She gripped the arms of the wheelchair and lifted herself off it. As soon as she got on her feet, standing firmly on the floor, everyone gasped in surprise.
"That's not all," she said with a huge grin and then she confidently took three steps forward until she was standing right in front of Kane. "Now, you can kiss me."
He was so blown away that he couldn't speak at first. He just stared at her with his mouth hanging open.
As you reach the final pages, remember that 000005s.com is your destination for the complete story. Share the joy of reading with others and spread the word. The next chapter is just a visit away! "Are you going to kiss her or what?" Chloe asked and everyone laughed.
He recovered from his shock and laughed too. "You asked for it," he said.
Instead of just leaning forward and kissing her, he placed one hand behind her neck and the other around her waist. And then, he did a dramatic swoop, bending her backward and kissing her. His dramatic display earned him a joyous cheer from their audience. Even the children clapped and laughed too.
"Let us toast to love," said Andrew, lifting his glass in the air.
"What's in your glass?" His wife asked him.
"Fruit punch," he lied.
"Nice try," she said and snatched it from him. "your doctor says you should stop drinking alcohol. I'll get you some real fruit punch."
"Oh, dear. Will that be us in a few years?" Kane asked Emilia.
She grinned. "I'm not bossy like my mom. That's Chloe. I'm more like my dad, gentle and softspoken."
"I heard that," her mother said, returning with her husband's drink. "now we can make a toast."
Everyone else got their glasses of wine and lifted them up.
"To love," said Andrew.
"To love," everyone repeated and clinked their glasses.
"I think we can cut the cake now," said Lillian. "my darling Crystabel has been ever so patient already, yes?"
"Ok, my darling. Let's do it," said Elsie, ushering the twins to where their cake was mounted.
Everyone counted from one to four and the kids cut the cake at the last count. There were more cheers and the festivity continued with more music and dancing.
Kane took Emilia's hand and led her to the balcony, away from all the noise inside.
"I'm still trying to digest this surprise you sprung on me," he said. "when did it happen?"
"Last week," she said with a smile. "I was in the bedroom alone one afternoon and heard a loud noise outside the window. I rushed out of bed to see what the commotion was about." "You didn't even realize that you were walking?"
"No, not until I was walking back to the bed. I decided to keep it to myself and make a big reveal today."
"It was perfect, my love. I knew you could do it."
"Thank you for believing in me. You made me challenge my mind and here we are."
"I am so happy, too happy to describe."
"So, is this the part where we live happily ever after?"
"I think so. This is it."
"I love you, Kane Beaumont."
"I love you, Emilia Beaumont. Forever and always."
The End.
