King gently ruffled Isaac's hair, his mood light enough to bring a faint smile to his lips.

"Go ahead and eat. I'll be down soon."

Isaac scanned the room one more time, then nodded slightly. Once the child and the sleek panther had left, King shut the door and returned to the bedside. The person in the bed was cocooned under the blanket, leaving no gaps.

He approached and gently tapped the lump. "Hungry? Want something to eat?"

Brielle didn't move, wishing she could just disappear at that moment. But remembering her purpose, she reluctantly extended a hand to grasp his wrist. "Let's finish this."

Her voice was raspy, her fingers pale against his wrist. King raised an eyebrow slightly, took her hand, and kissed it softly.

"In such a hurry?"

Brielle was still under the covers, her gaze conflicted. It was strange; after all the mental preparation, why did she feel so low right now? She opened her mouth to say something, but then there was a thud nearby.

She threw off the blanket only to replace the man had fallen asleep on the bed. A spark of excitement flashed in Brielle's eyes. She quickly propped him up, caressing his hand against her cheek.

Was Max coming back? Would he become the person she knew once he woke up?

There was another knock at the door, this time by a servant. Brielle covered him with the blanket and walked out.

The servant was accompanied by Isaac, who was carrying a tray, seemingly for King. Brielle had a soft spot for the boy, her heart melting at the sight of him. But Isaac showed no particular emotion towards her, except perhaps replaceing her eyes as shiny as diamonds. "Ms. Brielle, I heard the master wanted something to eat?"

"He's asleep now, won't be eating just yet."

The servant, wary of asking further and thinking of Kailee waiting downstairs, felt a headache coming on.

"Ms. Kailee is still downstairs. Seems like she's planning to stay the night."

Kailee was determined to wait for King to come down.

"Ms. Brielle, should I send Ms. Kailee away?"

Brielle hesitated, knowing she had no right to send away guests, especially not knowing Kailee's relationship with King.

"Handle it as you see fit," she replied, then turned to Isaac to take the tray from him.

Isaac looked up at her, then frowned. "You smell... like Daddy."

Brielle's cheeks flushed, feeling as if she'd been directly called out. She steadied her nerves.

"Where should this go, kiddo? Let me help."

Isaac looked her over maturely, then shook his head slightly. Brielle tensed, puzzled by his gesture. Was it a sign of disapproval? The thought brought a sudden sense of loss.

Isaac, however, remained silent, petting the panther before heading to his room. Brielle followed with the tray. The panther swished its tail elegantly, occasionally glancing back at this stranger.

Once in the room, Brielle placed the tray on a side table. "Is this okay?"

Isaac's room was neat, unlike the typical child's chaos. He ignored Brielle, picking up a giant, oversized cat toy. Brielle was certain it was a cat toy, just much larger, as the boy and the panther played happily.

After setting the tray down, Brielle realized she had nothing to say to the child, her guilt mounting when thinking about what she intended to do to King. She turned to leave, but Isaac suddenly spoke up.

"Daddy, good. You, bad."

His clear, understanding eyes seemed to see right through adults. Brielle froze, almost instinctively wanting to defend herself. But Isaac was King's child; King, who was Max could survive gunfire at ten. Was it likely his child would be nalve?

God closed a door for Isaac but opened a window - his acute sensitivity to emotions. In his world, good and evil were subjectively colored. Isaac petted the panther's head, his gaze sharp as a knife, cutting straight to Brielle.

"You, bad."

He repeated, his eyes emotionless, but each word struck Brielle's heart like a cleaver.
