Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) -
Chapter 1128
Irene didn't let him down, but she had her terms. Next time, she wanted to hear his voice while they were in the moment. Kenzo lifted her chin with his slender fingers, a gentle smile playing on his lips. "You can listen as long as you want."
That very afternoon, Irene got Colton to spill the beans about where Sarah was being kept.
Kenzo raised an eyebrow, looking at the radiant woman in front of him, still waiting for her reward. She was quite the useful stepping stone.
Meanwhile, at the underground pharmaceutical base where Sarah was, everyone was bustling around. From the outside, it looked like just another mountain, but it was hiding a whole different world beneath.
Sarah had been stuck there for days. At first, she managed to rig up a communication system from some broken parts to reach out to Dustin. But recently, patrols had ramped up, and those parts were seized. Now, she was completely cut off.
She noticed that several of the people working here were familiar faces. Renowned pharmacists from North America, previously reported dead in car accidents, whose families had mourned them and held funerals. Turned out, those accidents were just cover-ups to fake their deaths.
Clearly, none of them were here by choice. They were all brilliant pharmacists who only wanted to publish their research and attend international conferences. Instead, they ended up trapped here.
What shocked Sarah the most was the hijacking of a plane during the world's most prestigious pharmacists' conference years ago. That plane was full of top pharmacists heading to North America. After the hijacking, the circle of pharmacists quickly dwindled. International efforts to replace the plane were massive, with over a hundred families involved, causing a global uproar. Considering these individuals were highly valued by their countries, the search continued for nearly a decade. But after ten years with no wreckage found, it was clear those aboard were likely gone for good.
Having spent so long in the base, Sarah realized these people were considered dead by the outside world. Car accidents, suicides, murders, plane crashes - these were their supposed fates.
When she first contacted Dustin, she told him to wait for her signal. This organization wasn't just the Lynch. family's enemy but the enemy of over a hundred families, even entire clans if she could gather enough evidence, the Lynch family could
unite with others to bring down this
decades-old organization.
But getting that evidence was incredibly tough. These people had been enslaved for years, some even decades, losing all hope, numbly producing various pills. These pills could control influential people, addicting them and turning them into the organization's pawns. Every bit of information Sarah uncovered made her blood run cold. The Lynch family had been infiltrated by this dark organization, and they had no clue.
She was also grateful that Dustin had managed to survive all these years. That kid must have been a saint in a past life.
Sarah's purpose for being here was straightforward: everyone else had become puppets, unwilling to speak more than necessary. Although Sarah wasn't a chef, her family Australia was famous for catering state banquets, giving her more expertise in Australian cuisine than most.
Their current target was Beaconsfield's state banquets, showing just how ambitious this organization was.
At lunchtime, when the cafeteria
opened, all the pharmacists
gathered to eat. Sarah's gaze landed on one woman whose eyes still held a spark of light amidst the sea of vacant stares. Everyone wore white coats, including Sarah, a color that could numb one's hope over time.
As Sarah brought food to the woman, she noticed she was looking at a photograph. Recognizing the woman in the photo, Sarah murmured, "Simone?"
Hearing her name, the woman with the photo looked up in disbelief, locking eyes with Sarah. Sarah recognized the face but couldn't place it. The photo showed two girls, one taller than the other, looking similar enough to be sisters.
