Mate ...s ?!?! -
Chapter Eight
[Orion’s POV]
I was terrified and I’m not even going to lie. At the moment I was standing in front of the Alpha’s house. It was separate from the Pack House but still very close to everyone. It wasn’t huge but it was far bigger than my own home on the Pack Lands. However, I really didn’t know a lot about my own house. I was restricted to only a few rooms. Kitchen, Basement (my room), Laundry Room and on the occasion the dining room with the rest of the family, if I had been a good boy. Those occasions were very rare because I was an Omega and below my Beta family.
Cilla claimed she was afraid I would get my Omega filth on everything or steal something from them. With me being so small, everything was always out of reach for me anyway, so I never cared enough about anyone’s stuff but my own. I was an Omega; I was born small and I would always be small. I was almost 19 years old and I stood a whopping 5 feet even while most of the Pack was much bigger than I could ever hope to be. I would always be child sized and in most cases I hated that.
There were not many Omegas in our Pack and most of them were very protected by their families. Most families treated Omegas as treasures because no matter their gender an Omega can carry pups to continue the bloodline. Not my family though, they had been too ashamed of having an Omega that they had pushed me into the back of the family and forgotten me. No one in my family had claimed me to be their relation at all.
Then when Kelani died I became their whipping post because I could do nothing right in their eyes, and the wrong child had died that night in the eyes of my parents. I had heard my mom crying at night how she had wished her little girl was still there to carry on her great line. Despite having me to do the same thing my mom had forgotten that I was still a feeling person. A Wolf that needed to feel something other than hatred and disgust. I had always felt like someone’s mistake and only Cassie and Kelani had told me otherwise.
I always thought I would be lone forever. “Orion?” Cassie’s voice called to me, her soft tone pulling me from my heavy thoughts.
I shook my head and looked up to see that she and the twins were looking at me. They were all worried but I would be fine. “Don’t worry about me. I’m all right.” I said shooing their worry off and looking at the twins expectantly. I didn’t need the extra attention; they were already bringing me to their home.
Jace smiled warmly at me and they led us into their kitchen where their mom was busily shuffling around the large space. Her appearance shocked me, freezing me on the spot. She was smaller than me, like by four inches!! Their mom was an Omega just like me!!
“Mom!” Jax called out getting the woman to squeak and turn in surprise, clutching her chest a little.
“Oh, boys!!” she cried out. She rushed from around the counter to pull her huge sons into her tiny arms, hugging them happily before turning to see both Cassie and I. “New friends’ boys?” she asked as she went back to what she was doing. She was actually very beautiful for such a small woman. The twins had her eyes and her happy demeanor.
Jace and Jax looked like kids who that just got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. “You could say that mom.” Jace said getting his mother to turn on her heel sharply to glare at her boys. She had to look up because she was even smaller than me. I was an even 5ft and she was barely 4ft 8inch if I had to guess. Her bright blue/green eyes were striking as she glared at her twins with a fury I had never known. Her small hand had a death grip on the wooden spoon in it.
“Don’t you give me that Jace Evan. I see two new Wolves in my house that I don’t know and I suggest that you tell me who they are.” She said a soft growling starting in her chest, breathing through her nose deeply. She almost reminded me of an angry mouse.
I stepped forward, hoping to save the boys at least a little, “Hello ma’am I am Orion Star. I go to school with your boys and they helped me out of a bad situation today. They invited me and my best friend over to hang out if that’s all right with you.” I said giving her my best smile and kindest voice. I was hoping to get on her good side and not offend my Luna.
Their mom looked from me to them and then back again, “I like you. My name is Scarlett, but you two can call me mom or Scar if you want too.” she stated bluntly, a wide smile coming over her face as she moved to come closer to me. The grip on her spoon much more relaxed than it had just been, settling my nerves a little. “I am making dinner, the two are you are more than welcome to stay and share it with us.” she said as she moved back around the counter and away from us again.
“Well, you see, that’s what we came in here to ask you mom. Do you think it would be all right if they stayed here with us?” Jax questioned, making his mom drop the wide wooden spoon she had been holding.
I could see the Luna take a deep breath before she turned back around to face us, a soft smile on her face that terrified me. I moved behind Cassie as I felt my body begin to shake with fear. I could feel Cassie tense up as well and that only really made it worse. I tried to stay calm. This was not my mother. Scarlett wasn’t going to try and kill me. I hope. Cassie moved in front of me, trying to block everything from my sight, but it didn’t help. Not really. That smile was still right in front of my eyes.
“I want the four of you to sit at the kitchen table and wait for me. Apparently, this is something I need to be sitting down for.” Scarlett said, still smiling that smile that said ‘object to me and I will kill you where you stand’.
Cassie quickly turned to me wrapped her arms around me, letting the twins lead us to where we had been told to go. “Shh, its ok little star.” Cassie cooed as she sat in one of the kitchen chairs to pull me onto her lap. Being a Beta Cassie was actually much larger than I was. I was kid sized compared to everyone anyway so it only made sense that my best friend would be too. Cassie always was able to keep most of my fears away but right now I was beyond consoling. I was so close I thought.
I leaned against her and just waited. Waited for Cilla and my coming death. She was coming because the Luna was going to go get her. I just knew it.
