BARON

"How dare you show your face after what you did?" I heard a guy tell her that.

I had gone out to check out the school, it had been a while but nothing much had changed. Still the same big, expensive school filled with different kind of young werewolves, ranging from the bully to the popular to queen bees to flirts to nerds. Stone Shadow academy was the biggest and most prestigious. And while it had brilliant students who were equally talented, they still behaved like teenagers in high school. During my time here, no one had dared cross my path. If they were scared of my brothers, they were terrified of me. Girls who had admired, had done so from afar. I had no friends except for my brothers once-upon-a-time when we'd been close - the five of us. But that was gone now, I was here for revenge, that was my sole aim of coming back.

I entered the hall, there was no lecturer yet. The class was a bit rowdy and a quick survey told me they were bullying Katherina. She sat looking like a cornered, forlorn puppy, I even thought I saw tears in her eyes. Silently, I walked to where the boy stood. The whole class had seen me and comported themselves but he was still taunting her.

"You petty thief. You're trying to ruin the prestige of the school. Go back to your old pack."

Her cloth was wet, something had poured drink on her. She had seen me but she could not say anything. I wanted to be calm, until he turned and saw me, the look of shock on his face would have been worth it before I poured the anger I was feeling on him, but I couldn't wait anymore, not when Katherina looked so sad and hurt.

I pulled the guy by his collars so he was facing me, I didn't let the shock completely register on his face when I landed a punch that sent him staggering and hitting his back hard against one of the rows of desk. He was about to fall to the ground in pain when I pulled him up roughly and jabbed his stomach hard.

His nose was bleeding, and he had a split lip. My fist connected for the third time on that same nose, I heard it crunch. I was about to land the forth blow when a hand arrested mine mid-air. I turned to see it was Katherina. "It's okay Baron, you'll kill him." She pleaded.

I took in her appearance and that was when I saw her that some of the strands of her hair stuck in some places. The drink had been poured from her head down to her body. Her eyes were red and puffy. The sight made me growl, how dare they?

"Was he the one who did this?" I questioned her.

She shook her head. "No."

"Who did?"

"It doesn't matter Baron. Please just let him go."

"They bullied you."

She gave me a small wavering smile. "It's okay. Until I clear my name, I'm going to be seen as a thief and treated like one."

"A person isn't persecuted until found guilty." I argued.

"Two wrongs can not make a right, Baron, please."

"I'm not doing anything wrong. He had no right to bully you." I was boiling with rage.

"Look at him Baron, you've done enough. You've passed the message well enough. Please, let go."

"Why are you even fighting for her? She stole a phone."

I raised my head towards the voice and realized it was Katelyn. Dragging the boy with me, gently pushing Kathy aside. If there was anyone I hated more in this school, it was her. I wonder why Aaron seemed to think she was harmless. "Look at him Katelyn." I ordered her, making sure my voice had a cold, dangerous edge to it.

Her gaze flitted on his face before returning to mine. "I don't hit girls, but for you, I'll make an exception and pummel you more than this." That seemed to put fear in her as her eyes widened. Good, that was the plan. "And if I catch you anywhere near Katherina, I will deal with you without mercy. I don't care that your uncle is my father's Beta, just stay away from me and Katherina." I curled my lips in a sneer. "And for some reason, I think you planted that phone in her bag, I don't know how but I'll replace out."

Her eyes flashed defensively for a moment. "I did no such thing."

I took two steps closer. "Are you sure?" Fear made her speechless, she was scared I might hurt her and the Moon Goddess bear me witness, I would if she dared make any illicit movement near Katherina. "I thought so too." So saying, I flung the guy away from me. Not bothering to know where he landed, I took Katherina's hand, carried her bag and led her out of there. I pulled her till we got to the Salvatore cafeteria, she hesitated. "What?"

"I don't want to."

"They won't do anything to you. I'm here."

The guards bowed and let us in. I went to one of the cafeteria girls and requested for clothes to be brought. They took her in and helped her get rid of that juice in her hair and adorn her a new set of clothes. She came out thirty something minutes later looking quite the damsel. "Someone looks good."

"You didn't have to do all that."

"I am supposed to be taking care of you, remember?"

She smiled. "Thank you."

She sat with me on one of the lunch tables. I knew my brothers occupied the long one, I didn't want to associate with them. So we took the short booth. "You need comfort food, let's order some."

She nodded slowly. "Okay."

Soon, the speaker overhead said. "Don't forget students of Stone Shadow, tomorrow's the Wolf It event. Get your wolves ready!"

"I remember this event. I used to think it was stupid, and I still think so though."

She nodded but I saw her gulp and fear filled her eyes. "Are you okay, Katherina? Is it about the Wolf It event or what they did to you back there?" Without saying a word, she put her face in her palm and let out a heart-wrenching sob.
