Chapter 215

Meanwhile, at Serene Sanctuary, it would take another day for the poison in Liam’s body to be fully metabolized, leaving him barely able to cat

Ever since the last time Liam had cooked a meal, everyone at Serene Sanctuary had been impressed by his culinary skills. He had basically taken over the responsibility of cooking the daily meals.

Cynthia’s heart ached every time she saw the nearly 6 feet 3 inches tall Liam working tirelessly in the cramped kitchen, yet she admired his dedication.

He would always say, “I can’t stay here long–term. For now, I can make Master Buckley and Master Garten happy day by day.”

Cynthia knew he was doing it for her. As the CEO of a listed company, he could easily close deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Why would he confine himself to the kitchen otherwise!

With no other choice, Cynthia always helped out when she could.

The people at Serene Sanctuary, who were used to sleeping in, were all waiting in the courtyard,

After Liam finished cooking, everyone helped themselves to the meal. However, due to his unsettled stomach, Liam only managed a few bites.

Queena gave a thumbs up and praised, Liam, even n

my brother probably doesn’t know you Look this well, does he?”

Liam

put

down his cutlery and replied softly, “I wouldn’t matter even if he knew. I only cook for the people I care about”

Queena choked up, then glanced at Cynthia and pretended to be sad. “I guess I get to enjoy this meal thanks to Cynthia and the two masters.

Hallet, arriving just in time, added, “You’re not the only one benefiting”

The two exchanged a resentful glance, then lowered their heads and continued eating

After the meal, Liam, still troubled by accidentally using Evan’s medicinal herbs as firewood the previous day, decided to head into the mountains to gather more. Cynthia naturally went along with him.

Queena wanted to join them, but Hallet stopped her. “The mountains are full of snakes, insects, rats, and ants. Aren’t you afraid?”

Queena straightened up proudly and said. I went with Master Buckley yesterday. Those little creatures aren’t that scary. She then turned to Cynthia eagerly. “Cynthia, let me come along. This place is much more fun than the city.”

Instead of agreeing immediately, Cynthia looked at Hallet and asked mischievously. “Haller, you know the situation in the mountains well. There are many poisonous things we can’t touch. I can only watch over Liam. If Queena wants to come along, you’ll have to take care of her.”

“I’m not going, Hallet refused immediately,

The thought of those colorful crawlies made his skin crawl.

During his medical studies, Delilah had forced him to go into the mountains, but he hadn’t been there in a long time since he grew up.

“Hallet, you’re not still afraid of crawlies, are you?” Cynthia unceremoniously exposed him.

“What?” Queena reacted as if she had heard shocking news, scanning Hallet up and down before bursting into laughter. “Hallet, a grown man like you afraid of crawlies?” She laughed so hard she could barely stand.

Feeling embarrassed, Hallet glared fiercely at Cynthia. Not wanting to seem like a sissy to Queena, he explained weakly, “Who’s afraid? It’s just that it rained recently, and everything in the mountains is wet and slippery. I don’t like that feeling. That’s all.”

Clutching her stomach, Queens looked up, her face animated with laughter. “If you’re not afraid, then come with us. Didn’t you say you’d take me exploring when I first arrived?

Hallet was momentarily stunned by her lively expression. Without thinking about whether he was being goaded, he agreed immediately. Fine, let’s go. He dashed upstairs, saying, “Wait for me.”

A few minutes later, he came back down, fully equipped, with every part of his body covered, except his eyes.

Cynthia silently facepalmed, thinking, I’m so ashamed of him.

By then, Queena’s smile had noticeably diminished. Despite her carefree nature, she valued Hallet’s dignity. His apprehensive attire showed his fear, making it admirable that he joined them at all.

The group set off toward the mountain.

A few minutes after they left, Hunk and the others arrived, carrying Anthony on a stretcher. Isabella, her veil revealing only captivating eyes, knocked on the door.

Delilah had gone upstairs to sleep after the meal, while Evan was in the backyard sorting herbs. Hearing the knock, he assumed Cynthia and the others had returned.

He put down what he was holding and went to open the door.

He frowned slightly at the sight of the men and the veiled girl outside, who looked strikingly similar to Cynthia

He then tapped Isabella’s forehead with the herbs in his hand, “Weren’t you out gathering herbs? Did you come back to play another prank?”

When Cynthia was around, she often brought back people she found barely breathing from outside, claiming she wanted to save lives. In reality, she just wanted to see if she could challenge him.

Evan thought it was another of those times and didn’t pay much attention.

After opening the door, he casually pointed to a recliner in the courtyard and said, “Put the person there”

Isabella and Hunk were both surprised, wondering. Is he this easygoing? He doesn’t seem to match the rumors.

But since he had spoken, they felt reassured and carried Anthony inside, placing him on the recliner.

Evan set the herbs aside and asked, “Tell me, what was his condition when you found him?”

Upon hearing that, Isabella bowed deeply to Evan “Mr. Buckley, he had a heart attack before, and this morning, he was shot. He is now in critical condition. Please, we need your help”

Evan paused while preparing his medical tools and looked at Isabella warily. “You’re not Cynthia.”

It was the first time Isabella heard that name, and she shook her head.

Evan immediately threw down his tools and said angrily. “You guys are really sneaky, trying to get me to treat someone using tricks. And a gunshot wound? You should know I don’t treat those here.”

After briefly glancing into Isabella’s eyes, he gestured toward the door and remarked, “Well, you did better than most. Almost had me fooled. Now, please leave.”

Isabella and Hunk stood there in complete shock, uncertain why Evan’s attitude had changed so quickly.

Seeing they weren’t leaving. Evan grabbed a broom to chase them out.

Watching Anthony’s life ebb away, Isabella grew desperate and fell to her knees with a thud. “Mr. Buckley, I’m not sure who you mistook me for just now, but I’m not lying. Please, I beg you, save him. I’m not trying to impersonate anyone. This is how I’ve always looked. If I happen to resemble someone else, it’s purely by chance. She tore off her veil as she spoke.

Evan’s hand froze in mid–air as he gazed at Isabella’s face.
