Mommy for Billionaire's Baby -
Chapter 18
Monday is a busy day. It's not that Tasya is being made busy, but almost all employees at Faldom are. Nathan, as he pleases, requests to expedite all reports related to the major meeting with the chairman. In this case, the busiest person is the one closest to Nathan. Who else?
Fortunately, she is used to being made busy by Nathan. His annoying and authoritarian attitude cannot be changed even for a moment. On the other hand, Naina is a thousand times more obedient to Tasya. Learning from experience, Tasya quickly dismisses Nathan's words. Although sometimes they hurt her feelings, when Tasya brings them up, that man casually says, "Did I mean it that way, Tasya? No. You misunderstood. What I meant was that you need sufficient rest, quality sleep, and proper nutrition. So that you can fully concentrate and not make trivial mistakes, Tasya. I can immediately spot them with my eyes. What about you? It's not just a matter of you wearing glasses. It means you're not concentrating." In the end, Tasya learns the implicit language that Nathan speaks, including expanding the capacity of her patience.
"How is Optima?" Nathan suddenly asks as he sits in front of Tasya's desk. His hands are busy sliding the tablet screen. His eyes briefly glance at Tasya, who is busy working. His trusted assistant moves the chair towards one of the drawers, probably retrieving Optima's report.
"Based on the data I have gathered, as well as the data you requested some time ago, there are indications of embezzlement." Tasya hands over her observations directly in front of Nathan, causing her boss to pause his fingers' dance on the sophisticated gadget.
"What do you mean?"
Tasya then opens the report she has compiled. With the crazy overtime work at Nathan's house, despite many disturbances, she managed to overcome them successfully. She compared the replaceings with the documents obtained from the finance department. Tasya points out and elaborates on her research results one by one. Several times, Nathan checks again what Tasya has explained.
"Why didn't Noah Sinclair raise this issue?" Nathan asks, puzzled. His eyes are fixed on a fairly large transaction where no projects took place during the disbursement of the funds. "Are you sure you checked this month, March, Tasya?" "Yes, sir." Tasya is not irritated by the recent question. She knows that her boss is asking just to double-check what she found in the data.
"How is Optima doing?"
"No one has responded yet. I couldn't meet Ms. Nadine either."
Nathan gently rubs his chin, contemplating not his assistant's appearance or assessing her honesty, but considering what he will do next. A few months ago, Optima helped them open old files. Why does it now seem like they're avoiding them?
"I'll check their address. Optima's office has also moved. No one knows where they moved to."
"What about Nadine?"
Tasya sighs softly. "The last I knew; she was working as a manager at the Harris Hotel."
Nathan furrows his brow. "But she won't respond to you?"
Tasya shakes her head.
"That's strange." Nathan leans back comfortably. "Alright then. Don't keep this file in the office, Tasya. It's dangerous. Organize it and mark the crucial parts. I'll bring it this evening." "Yes, sir."
Before Nathan goes back into his office, he makes sure of one thing. "Did Naina stop by here?"
"Yes, she did." Tasya's smile suddenly appeared, and she adjusted her thick-framed glasses. "I was ordering food in case Miss Naina is hungry after school, sir." "You ordered for Naina? For me?"
Tasya blinked slowly. "I thought you had an appointment outside. That's what your schedule indicated." She then opened another agenda containing all of her boss's schedules. "What?" Nathan blinked in disbelief. "When did I say I had an appointment?"
Tasya sighed softly. "When we returned from the cemetery yesterday, sir."
Nathan's brain quickly processed Tasya's words from yesterday. He felt that there was no conversation about an appointment for today. Instead, Nathan remembered how enjoyable the rest of his time was yesterday.
Nathan took Naina to the movies. There was an exciting film to be enjoyed together. It felt like it had been a long time since he set foot in a public place like a cinema. Eating popcorn leisurely, sipping soda from a cup, and indulging in the movie playing. Naina immediately agreed.
"Yes! Can I go shopping too, Daddy? I need new shoes."
Nathan sighed but couldn't refuse.
"Let's have ice cream before we actually go home, Daddy?" Nathan nodded, and Naina responded with excitement.
Tasya didn't actually have to accompany the two of them. Really. She could feel how thrilled Naina was to spend time with Nathan. However, there were always behaviors from Nathan that made her annoyed. Especially when they entered one of Nathan's favorite boutiques.
Five shirt options were presented to Tasya. Nathan said, "Choose the best ones."
Tasya did her job, but honestly, Nathan was incredibly irritating. He found fault in everything, and Tasya wished she could tape his mouth shut with black tape. He was so nitpicky.
Meanwhile, Nathan felt puzzled by Tasya's behavior. The girl looked at him with piercing eyes. Was it because Nathan was causing trouble? He was just asking for advice on choosing a shirt for Naina. Was that wrong? It shouldn't be, right? "You said they were all good. I have to make a decision, Tasya. Three colors are enough." Nathan sighed, folding his arms across his chest. The five shirts were handed back to Tasya.
"If I choose three out of the five, the other two might feel left out," Tasya replied calmly.
"I said that?" Nathan widened his eyes in disbelief. "I said that to a date, not to a shirt." He chuckled, making one of the boutique staff smile. "See? Even the lady is laughing."
Tasya just sighed deeply. Her hands moved quickly to select the colors that would suit Nathan. "These three colors are suitable. You already have the rest."
"Really?" Nathan was taken aback. "You have a great memory, Tasya." Once again, laughter adorned the corners of Nathan's lips. "I have a lunch appointment with someone on Monday. This one seems appropriate for me to wear, right, Tasya?" he pointed to one of the shirts Tasya had chosen..
Without hesitation, his assistant nodded. "Formal or informal?"
"Just an old friend, Tasya."
"In that case," Tasya paused for a moment. Her eyes quickly scanned the boutique, where many shirts and men's outfits were displayed. "Please replace the light grey pants from earlier. They're at the end over there. The brown belt is also fine. I saw the shoes in the display on the upper right, I think they'll match well for my boss. Can you get them for me? I want to see how everything matches."
Nathan grinned widely.
"Oh, and the casual navy blazer too," Tasya tapped her nose. "I'll replace it for you." She darted off, leaving Nathan and Naina enjoying their ice cream cup. The child had to be silenced with something she liked. Next to Naina sat a row of paper bags with the logos of famous brands where Naina had spent Nathan's money.
"Tasya has good taste," praised Naina as she took another spoonful of her ice cream. "Daddy, do you want some?"
"Of course. Feed Daddy," he requested. Vanilla ice cream mixed with strawberry and lots of extra toppings slid into Nathan's mouth. Occasionally, he asked Naina about her school and their plans after the exams.
"Is there anything else you want to buy?" Nathan asked casually. He tidied Naina's hair even though it didn't need it. Tasya skillfully fixed the long hair. Even Mrs. Merry wasn't that good at it.
"No," Naina shook her ice cream cup. "Tasya doesn't want to buy a sweater. It was really cute earlier. It looked like a cute little cat, Daddy."
Nathan laughed. "There's no way Tasya would wear something like that."
"Daddy, you're hopeless! Tasya likes cute things, just like I said. But she's not confident enough to wear them. That's what she said earlier."
"Oh, really?"
Naina nodded without hesitation. She talked about this and that, telling Nathan what she and Tasya had discussed. She found it exciting. Naina didn't feel too lonely. The conversation was interrupted when Tasya arrived, slightly struggling with carrying various items.
"Now, you can try them on," Tasya grinned widely. The fruits of her hunt for Nathan looked perfect. It didn't take long for Nathan to come out of the fitting room. Tasya's smile didn't fade. The definition of a successful young businessman, a talented young executive, handsome, accomplished, and certainly not from an ordinary background, was embodied in Nathan.
Tasya was proud to be able to enjoy his presence even as his assistant. "Ready for tomorrow's meeting." She gave a thumbs-up as a form of appreciation.
"Is that so?" Nathan examined himself in the mirror. From his reflection, it was clear that Tasya was admiring him. "If you say so, I'll buy everything."
Suddenly, all those conversations flashed through his mind. Then... Nathan burst into laughter. He just realized that he was wearing all of Tasya's choices from yesterday without hesitation this morning.
"You're cool, sir," Tasya looked at her boss with admiration.
Wasn't Tasya aware that the coolness she referred to came from her choices yesterday? Nathan simply granted what Tasya thought was suitable for him to wear. Although Nathan couldn't deny that he was waiting for his assistant's praise. "Do... do I have to cancel the appointment? But after lunch, the meeting with the marketing division isn't postponed, right, sir?" Tasya became flustered. She didn't want her plans since morning to be ruined because Nathan arbitrarily changed his schedule. She was afraid that the afternoon appointment with the boss would end up being a short date at a hotel.
A short date would make the boss return to the office at 4 p.m. There were no meetings in the afternoon unless it was absolutely necessary. And it was certain that Tasya would definitely go home late.
"No," Nathan quickly shook his head. "Everything is according to the existing schedule." He then stood up from his seat. "What did you deliver earlier?"
"Fast-food chicken, sir."
"Oh my."
"It's delicious, sir," Tasya grinned. "Besides, Naina likes it too. I bought soup as well."
Nathan shook his head softly. It's not that he didn't want to eat food like that. It's not about being arrogant either, but he needed a lot of nutrients for his brain. His work demanded a lot of mental effort. "Call Naina. Ask her where she is now." Tasya's forehead furrowed.
"We're eating at Amaris."
"We?" Tasya repeated in surprise.
"Yes," Nathan glanced briefly. "Alright, just prepare yourself and Naina. Tell Mr. Jack not to be on the road for too long."
"If they get stuck in traffic, should they really be quick, sir?" Tasya spoke softly.
"What did you say?"
Tasya blinked. "Nothing." She quickly gave a grin to cover up what she was hiding. "I'll call Amaris first to confirm the location, sir."
"Actually, I wanted to ask you something, Tasya."
The phone that Tasya already had in her hand just dangled there. "Yes?"
"Why am I often called Raptor? I've tried to replace out what Raptor is like. There's no definition that resembles me."
Tasya swallowed nervously.
"Do you have any other scientific explanation?"
"No, sir," Tasya grimaced awkwardly. Nathan was the type of person who, when he asked a question, needed to get an answer. Although the answer might not be satisfying, at least it wouldn't raise further questions unless they were related to work.
Nathan and what he was involved in at Faldom truly deserved Tasya's admiration. He immersed himself fully, to the extent of understanding the cool breeze of problems that occurred in each division. Perhaps because something disturbed him, such as the connection with Optima, it made the boss somewhat uneasy. Apart from this issue, Nathan truly positioned himself as a competent boss.
"I'm just curious why my brain still can't think. What made you label me as Raptor?"
Tasya herself was confused when asked like that.
"Is it a term of endearment from you to me?"
Tasya's eyes widened in disbelief, coinciding with someone entering the room without permission.
"Hi, Nathan." Boonie appeared there, scowling at the security guard who accompanied her. "I'm so annoyed. Why couldn't I meet you? We had an appointment, right?"
