Chapter 160

Chapter 160 I Loved My Husband For Ten Years

“Nicholas, do you know? I can’t stand you. I hate you so much. You’re like a block of wood, a fool.” AsNancy spoke, she gently poked Nicholas’ chest. Despite being clearly. intoxicated, her beautyremained undiminished. The steam from the bathroom enhanced her allure, with flushed cheeks andcherry-red lips making her even more enchanting.

However, he stood still, allowing her playful pokes to continue without flinching.

Nancy poked him a few times before pausing, then poked him again as if a thought crossed her mind. With a tipsy grin, she asked, “You seem to have changed into an entirely different person. Why didn’tyou dodge?”

“Why should I dodge?” Nicholas responded.

She blinked her drowsy, mischievous eyes, and as if inspired, she smiled coyly. Suddenly, she scoopedup water from the bathtub and splashed it onto the man.

Nicholas was caught off guard, and by the time he realized what was happening, Nancy had alreadydoused him with water several times. With his hair soaked and water droplets cascading down, shecouldn’t help but giggle. “Not dodging will make you end up wet!”

It had been a while since he had seen her so genuinely happy. At that moment, he felt his heartmelting. Still, he didn’t retreat but walked forward, reaching his long, fair arms out. to ruffle her hair, asking affectionately, “Did you have fun splashing water on me?”

Nancy nodded, still smiling drowsily. “It was fun.” As she spoke, she suddenly got up from the bathtuband poked Nicholas’ chest again, accusing him disgruntledly, “Did you know? You used to be a refinedgentleman when I first met you. It’s like you were a flower on a high peak, making people hesitant to

approach. But now…” She poked him harder, adding, “Look at yourself. You’ve become down and out, which makes you an ordinary person like me.” She continued, “Let me tell you something. I don’t likeyou acting this way. It’s like we’re from different worlds. When we got married, it felt like no one washappy for me besides Grandpa, especially your friends. They thought I married you to climb up thesocial ladder and that I was after wealth and status.

“What do you think?” he asked with a raised brow.

Tilting her head and pondering, Nancy replied, “I think they were right! It’s true. I was too dreamy, always imagining myself as a princess, waiting for a prince to come and rescue. me. But in reality, Ididn’t even have a knight. They were right; we are from two different. worlds. Our worlds finallyseparated after so much difficulty, and our connection was cut off. But why didn’t you stay away? Whymust you return to disturb my life? Why did you come back and stir up my emotions?” The more shespoke, the sadder and more painful she felt. Tears started streaming down her face, and she wanted towipe them away but found herself wearing a short-sleeved shirt. Therefore, she didn’t have a sleeve towipe her

tears with. At that instant, her gaze fell onto Nicholas’ shirt. “Come closer!” she urged him.

“What do you want?” he rebuked, “Didn’t you tell me to stay away earlier?” Although he said that, hisbody had already taken a step forward, bringing him very close to her.

Nancy hooked her fingers. “You’re too far. Come closer.”

Nicholas moved closer again and was now right beside the bathtub.

Without thinking much about it, she pulled his shirt and started wiping away her tears.

Immediately, his expression fell. He was wondering why she asked him to come closer. Who wouldhave thought it was to use his shirt to wipe away her tears?

“Nancy!” He yelled.

Nancy hurriedly raised her head, looking at Nicholas with pitiful eyes. “Who told you to bring me home? You have to take responsibility for your actions.”

“How do you want me to take responsibility for this?” he asked, his eyes gradually turning dark.

Grabbing the shower head, she started spraying him. His shirt was instantly wet as water flowed downhis body like a stream.

Satisfied, she said, “Of course, you must be responsible for making me happy.”

“You’re becoming more and more mischievous.” While criticizing her, Nicholas ran his fingers throughhis hair, but his tone was filled with undeniable indulgence.

“You’re right. I am mischievous. I also have a secret to tell you.” Nancy suddenly placed her handbeside her lips as she spoke mysteriously.

“What’s the secret?”

“I used to fake my personality.” She stated, “Actually, I’m not well-behaved or obedient. I used to bemean, so you’ve been fooled.” As she spoke, she deliberately placed both hands. beside her lips andput on a fierce expression. Then, she suddenly parted her lips and revealed her teeth to make amenacing face. But when she saw his calm expression that seemed like he wasn’t surprised, she wasslightly disappointed and asked, “Aren’t you surprised by that?”

Nicholas ignored her. If he had any doubts about Nancy’s sobriety or whether she was simply puttingon an act, those uncertainties had now evaporated. It was abundantly clear that she was indeed

inebriated. This was evident in the way she engaged in ceaseless chatter, babbling like a child yetexuding a certain charm and adorability that was hard to

ignore.

“Geez, weez, Nicholas, you’re not adorable at all. This is no fun.” She pouted her lips in dissatisfaction.“How about I tell you a joke? Why did the chicken cross the road? It’s because it wanted to get to theother side!”

But the man stood there and didn’t smile.

Dissatisfied, Nancy refused to admit defeat. “Isn’t that funny? Let me think. I’ll tell you another one.Three tomatoes are walking down the street. Papa Tomato, Mama Tomato, and Baby Tomato. BabyTomato starts falling behind, and Papa Tomato gets really angry, so he goes back and squishes BabyTomato, saying, ‘Ketchup.’ Hahahaha. Ketchup, got it?”

After delivering her joke, she erupted into laughter, but Nicholas maintained his indifference, his facefrozen in the same impassive expression as before. There was no trace of a smile; his countenanceremained as rigid and emotionless as ever.

At that moment, she was finally angry. She got up and placed her hands on his face without hesitation, forcing him to smile.

With that, Nicholas finally revealed a bitter smile. But his smile seemed worse than crying.

Nancy also found it awful, so she withdrew her hand and returned to the bathroom, leaning her headagainst the bathtub.

This time, as she cast a glance at him, her gaze abruptly became serious. “Would to hear another jokefrom me? This one isn’t something I found on the internet, but rather one I came up with myself. Iassure you it’s hilarious, and it will definitely make you laugh.”

With her eyelashes trembling, Nancy closed her eyes and spoke softly, “I once foolishly loved a man forten years. We used to be inseparable. He was my husband, yet he acted as if he knew nothing. It wasas if he had amnesia. What do you think of that? Isn’t it a

massive joke?”
