Chapter 97

Chapter 97 Nicholas Knew the Truth

Or she might be hiding under the blanket like before, trembling with fear, unable to sleep peacefully allnight.

Realizing the situation, he felt increasingly regretful.

He shouldn’t have left in anger and leaving her alone in the room.

But he was a man with his pride.

Since he had already gone out and left in anger, how could he

go

back?

At the very least, she would have to hold back a bit and not leave things unresolved.

He consoled himself, thinking that as long as Nancy showed signs of wanting him to stay or came toreplace him, he would put aside his previous anger and return immediately.

But as he waited, minutes turned into several minutes, and the stairwell remained silent.

Could it be that she had already fallen asleep?

Nicholas couldn’t sit still, and with long strides, he quietly ascended to the second floor.

The couple’s new second-floor bedroom was tightly closed, showing no signs of any activity.

Nicholas’ heart turned considerably colder at that moment.

In the end, he had overthought it. She probably watched him leave without moving, even getting out ofbed, and without opening the door, let alone looking for him.

The one who held onto obsession was him alone.

With a bitter smile, Nicholas left the second floor.

Since she didn’t need him, he did not need to bug her.

He changed into fresh clothes and headed to the garage to start a car.

In the rain, he drove the car down the deserted road and made a phone call.

“Are you asleep? Let’s have a drink!”

Luke looked at the time and gritted his teeth as he replied, “Nicholas, it’s 2 AM. I’m sleeping!”

“Aren’t you always pulling all-nighters?”

Hearing that from Nicholas, Luke recalled the events that took place before.

One morning, the sun was streaming into the room. Despite the curtains blocking some of it, the roomwas still bright.

Linda had woken up early, but he was still sleeping.

During that time, Linda kept calling him, and she called him several times, but he was still. sleeping.

It was easy to imagine that on that final morning, Linda was angry. She didn’t even eat breakfast andwent back home in frustration.

After leaving, she went directly to the film set in a remote, isolated location with little traffic.

So, for a whole month, they didn’t see each other.

Later, when Linda returned, Luke immediately rushed to admit his mistake.

Linda lay beside him, looking like a grumpy little wife as she poked his straight nose and earnestly said,“Luke, this is your promise, okay? You can’t stay up late or pull all-nighters from

now on.”

“If I catch you doing it again, I won’t talk to you anymore.”

“And, at your age, it’s time to take care of yourself. Those young actors on our set are incrediblydisciplined, with strict diets and exercise routines. They use facial masks every morning and eveningand are more meticulous about skincare than I am.”

“Look at yourself, Luke!” Linda prodded his face playfully. “Your skin is sagging. If you don’t care foryourself, you’ll become an old man before you know it.”

Luke immediately had a sullen expression. Since then, he has quit the habit of staying up all night..

Of course, work-related matters and exceptional circumstances were exceptions.

“That was in the past, but I’ve quit now,” Luke replied.

“Stop the chitchat and come out for a couple of drinks,” Nicholas said.

Sensing his bad mood, Luke got up and put on some clothes.

Ten minutes later, Nicholas arrived at the club.

He ordered several bottles of white wine and a large quantity of red wine.

When Luke entered the private room, all he could see was alcohol- lots of it.

“In the middle of the night, you called me out. What’s going on? You look like you’re heartbroken orsomething.”

Luke walked over, raised a glass, clinked it with Nicholas, and then drank it.

Nicholas sat on the sofa, holding a glass in one hand while the other rested loosely on the back.

“Did Madelline ignore you?” Luke asked.

“It’s not about her.”

“So, it’s related to Nancy?” Luke asked, sitting beside Nicholas with a glass of wine.

Nicholas didn’t respond to him. He took another sip of his drink and tightened his grip on the glass.“Women are truly fickle. One moment, they’re like innocent, soft bunnies; the next, they can turn intofierce, cold-blooded, ruthless tigers.”

“Why do they change so quickly?”

He slammed the door and left, and she just let him go without trying to stop him.

Thinking about it, Nicholas was distraught.

No matter how she put it, he was her husband. Did she have any feelings for him at all?

“I don’t replace it strange at all,” Luke said.

Nicholas frowned.

Luke continued, “The fact that Nancy could hold back until now shows remarkable restraint. No womancan tolerate her husband being with someone else.”

“And what if she can tolerate it?”

“Well, it’s either she loves you too much and doesn’t want to lose you, so she’s willing to put up with it,or she doesn’t love you and couldn’t care less. So, which one do you hope it is for Nancy?”

After hearing what Luke said, Nicholas fell into deep contemplation.

Which one?

He didn’t want it to be either way. He wished she could quarrel, create a scene, or come to him for anexplanation, anything to show her feelings, and he would feel better in his heart.

But she was so calm as if nothing had happened.

Luke still sighed as he looked at him. “Please don’t blame me for not warning you before. Madellineisn’t suitable for you, and Nancy is a better match.”

“There are some things I didn’t want to get involved in or share with you, but looking at your currentstate, you should know. During the last heavy rain, Nancy ran to replace Linda in tears. When she arrived, her whole body was soaked, and she looked lost and devastated as if she had lost her soul. She wasdistraught.”

The last heavy rain?

Nicholas’ eyes quickly searched through his memories and soon remembered it.

It was when Madelline had an accident, the night he went to the hospital.

He had always believed that Nancy did not know of his departure.

Before leaving, he even thought he had a foolproof plan, believing that if he returned to her side

in the early hours of the next day, he could act as if nothing had happened.

Turns out, he was the foolish one.

Nancy knew everything, and she knew it all.

Perhaps that night, she didn’t sleep at all. She knew as soon as he left.

So, the next day, she could look at him so calmly and sadly.

It turned out that the one who had hurt her heart so much was him.

The one who had done wrong was also him.

All of it was him.

If it weren’t for Luke’s words, Nicholas might still not know how he had cruelly hurt Nancy back

then.

That hurt was no less painful and uncomfortable than stabbing her in the chest with a knife. How muchpain and suffering it must have been!

Now, he wanted to return, eager to hold her tightly in his arms.

This time, no matter what she says or how she resists, he won’t let go.

As he was leaving, under the brilliant lights of the hall, Nicholas noticed the suit that Luke was wearingand casually asked, “Where did the suit come from?”

“Looks good, doesn’t it?” Luke said with a hint of pride and showing off.

Then he added, “It’s from Linda. To be more precise, it was a gift from Nancy.”

“What?”
