Jessica

A lot was going on with my life, a week with Tyler at the beach house was making me realize that I hate coming back to work.

Not without Kayleigh by my side and I was still adjusting to the look that people gave me when I saw Tyler’s big sparkly engagement ring.

His mom was over the moon, she couldn’t stop talking about how we should hurry up with the wedding, how Tyler is not getting any younger and I might need time to get pregnant. I know his mom probably hoped I’d get pregnant on day one after the wedding.

“Congratulation.” Elsie was to my side holding out her hand as if she was giving me the win and ownership of my fiancé, Tyler.

“Ehm…thank you.” I decided to just take it and let it be over with once and for all.

Well, at least for that morning. On that same day, we are scheduled for a family dinner with Tyler’s parents in the evening.

“You don’t look happy, why aren’t you happy?” Tyler asked the moment he stepped into my office. I was still struggling without Kayleigh as my PA, and since her issue, the HR department has been very thorough with its applicant list.

“I’m tired, my schedules are overlapping and without an assistant, I’m slowly shifting through my emails and now I’m late with our meeting with the department heads. Thank you for reminding me.”

Tyler held out his hand and I put mine in his and we walked to the meeting room together. I wasn’t affected by their attention, at that time, my mind was busy with the visit to see Kayleigh later that afternoon.

My future husband agreed that I can visit her, but he was coming with me. I was not stupid, I know he’s my rock since I don’t have Kayleigh as my bestie anymore. And seeing the establishment that she’s in online, I know I’d need Tyler close by.

The executives’ meeting went as expected, then he took me out to lunch before we go and see Kayleigh in the psychiatric hospital just outside of the city limit.

“Are you sure about this? we can go back next month, maybe it’s still too early for you to face her.”

“Tyler, you will be there with me. You can pull me out if I start to break down, okay? I just need to see her. I owe her this. She’s sick.”

My man looked unsure but he nodded and told his driver to take us there. He kept on holding my hand in his and we talked about work, and other topics aside from my psychotic best friend who tried to kill me.

“She’s under her meds, won’t interact much and she might seem off from time to time. Do not touch her, and please speak softly.” Her doctor explained her condition in brief, telling me that people are watching us then advised Tyler to stay back, not wanting his attendance to trigger Kayleigh’s reaction.

“Baby, I’ll be okay. The guards will be there.”

“Okay, I’m gonna be right here. Be careful okay?” He kissed the top of my head before he followed the doctor to the waiting area and let him talk more about Kayleigh’s condition.

I was nervous when I reached the common area, then hesitated when I saw her sitting alone by the window. She looked too consumed with her thoughts that she didn’t realize that I was to her side.

“Kayleigh, it’s me.”

“Jessica? what are you doing here? have you seen my mother? what am I doing here?” she looked confused but didn’t appear that she can get up from her seat. Her words were faint, she was whispering as if she didn’t have the energy to talk anymore, as if she was too drugged up.

My eyes were on the nurses and a couple of guards they have watching over them. This is their doing, it’s what this place is for. They’re treating her.

“You are sick, Kay…you are being treated here. You will be fine soon, I’m visiting…I missed you.”

“You want to take a walk? see my room?” her eyes were as I’ve always known, friendly and kind. That’s when I got up and walk with her, the guards were watching us but seemed that we’re allowed to walk around. So, I followed her.

It wasn’t far, and that’s when I saw the doors. They have locks all from the outside. My heart shattered seeing her living like that. I quickly wiped my tears and that’s when she saw my ring and flipped.

The changes that I saw were terrifying, her eyes were so evil as if she was totally someone else. And she was that someone else when her next words were out of her mouth.

Kayleigh pushed me up against the wall.

“You think you’re so pretty aren’t you? just because Troy asked you to marry him?! HE…LOVES…ME!

My head was pounding so hard the moment I was thrown to the other side, her corner table hit my head.

I could hear people rushing in and her screams flooding the room, but my vision was black. I was drowning, the quiet was consuming my head when I felt someone was carrying me and his familiar scent invades my space.

“Jess, baby, I’m here…it’s okay.”

Didn’t know how long I was out but I was in a bed, with him by my side, holding me closely.

My tears fall and I sobbed in his chest, ruining his crisp white shirt, yet he didn’t say a word. He was just there, rubbing my back and letting me cry my tears out.

“Where are we?”

“Still at the hospital, you hit your head pretty hard. The doctor said to give you a couple of hours before we go home. Are you still feeling dizzy?”

“No, just the throbbing.”

“Here, take this…” he helped me sit, resting my body to his front, and gave me a pill saying the doctor gave it to him, telling me it’s for the headache.

He kept on caressing me, I lay to his side not letting go of my hold on him and letting him take care of me.

“I love you, Jessica. Love you…” he kissed the top of my head and let me rest.

It was dark when we get out of the hospital, Tyler had canceled our dinner with his parents and we went straight back to his place.

He waited on me and we dine with the comfort food his mom left in the fridge. We ended dinner with him wrapping his arm to my shoulder while looking at the evening news. The chaos of the outside world was keeping my thoughts away from Kayleigh and how truly deranged she was.

“She thinks this is Troy’s ring. She lost it when she saw it.”

“She’s very sick. It’s out of your hand.” Tyler kissed the top of my hair and keep on rubbing my arm, trying to soothe me.

“Come on, we should sleep. I’ll be working from home tomorrow, I’m not going anywhere, Jessica.”

He carried me and lay me to his bed and that’s when I asked him. That’s when I cupped his face and kissed him deeply then asked him to have me, love me, and make me forget about her.

“Jess,”

“Please…make me tired, I want to sleep, feeling content in your arms.”

He looked at me and slowly stripped my clothes off. It didn’t take long for me to be naked under him and feel his k****s all over my body, cherishing me, loving me so good that I climaxed hard moments later. I was letting him have me in his arms, the frustrations were knotting in my mind and his loving acts were freeing them easily.

“I love you, you’re not allowed to die before me,” I whispered resting my head to his still damp chest while my eyes were heavy and I was asleep within seconds.
