My Daughter
My Daughter 11

Chapter 11

Hannah somehow got Ken’s contact information and asked him for money.

She said she had cancer.

And so, the wolf in sheep’s clothing finally

revealed its true nature.

At first, he was just absent–minded, distracted when I talked to him. Then I started noticing withdrawal records on his phone.

Not long after, our daughter was diagnosed with

cancer.

That day, she was in so much pain she nearly fainted. I frantically called Ken, asking him to

come to the hospital to pay the bills.

But what I got wasn’t Ken. It was something wearing a human disguise.

I seemed to no longer understand him.

Perhaps, I never really did.

My parents were gone, my daughter left me. And Ken, my husband, had betrayed me.

When the first ray of morning sunlight streamed through the glass, I rubbed my eyes, my head

dizzy, as if I had woken from a grand and absurd

dream.

Breakfast was simple: one egg and a bowl of oatmeal.

Candice sat beside me, hesitant to speak, then finally asked, “…Have you thought about what

to do in the future?”

“Maybe.”

Even after so long without contact, we understood each other well. We were very much

in sync.

I didn’t say more, and she didn’t ask further.

In our small talk, Candice told me Hannah was discharged from the hospital.

Hannah cured of her terminal illness, Ken had made up for failing to save his mother, and his long–held grudge seemed to have lifted.

He was finally willing to return and fulfill his promise, even though no one acknowledged that promise; it was just his self–assumed

penance.

He emptied our savings, yet still hoped to continue a normal life with his wife and daughter.

So, the first thing he did was contact me, hoping I would forgive him.

But ever since our daughter passed away, I had blocked all his contact information.

I had always followed around Ken; he didn’t know my friends, and there was no way he could replace me through them.

Fortunately, Ken knew which kindergarten our daughter attended. By replaceing her, he could replace me, even though he had never picked her up from school.

Ken might have disliked me, but when our daughter was born, he couldn’t help but fall in love with this cute girl.

Ken was determined to make up for his mistakes and decided to pick our daughter up from school.

After breakfast, I went to the kindergarten to pack Diana’s things.

The teacher just led me to her spot, then after a long moment, patted my shoulder.

Suddenly, someone burst in, causing a commotion at the entrance, being stopped by the security guard.

The guard demanded to know who he was. He explained that he was a parent, but no one believed him.

During all the years Diana attended school, Ken had never picked her up, so no one recognized him.

Ken grew anxious and waved desperately at the teacher, “Miss, Miss! I’m Diana’s father.”

The teacher frowned and walked over to ask what was going on.

“I’m Diana’s father, I’m here to take her home.”

A few children playing outside overheard and

exclaimed:

“Huh? Diana wasn’t lying?”

“She really has a dad?”

The murmurs, not too loud but not too soft, reached Ken’s ears, making his face flush with embarrassment.

The teacher asked the children to go inside, then coldly ordered the guard: “Security, escort him out!”

Ken struggled and protested, “Miss, I really am Diana’s parent.”

“You’re lying! Diana has already passed away. You must be a fraud!”

Ken suddenly froze, pushed several meters by the security guard. “What… what did you say…?”

He rushed forward to question the teacher, his voice trembling, a sour ache spreading through his entire being.

I finished packing Diana’s things and stepped outside.

Ken stared at me, stunned, as if he had a thousand things to say.

I just rolled my eyes, said goodbye to the

teacher, and walked away.

Suddenly, my wrist was grabbed, and I couldn’t

move.

Ken’s eyes were terrifyingly red, “Cloris… Cloris…”

Then, as if afraid of scaring me, he spoke softly: “Hannah has been discharged. Let’s continue our lives together. Where is Diana… Where is our… child…?”

I couldn’t hold back my anger any longer and slapped him. A clear handprint appeared on his face. “As you wished, Diana is dead! Are you satisfied now!!!”

Ken was stunned, unable to believe any of it. He

suddenly covered his face, crouching in pain, tears streaming through his fingers and falling to the ground.

“Does regret work, Ken? When Diana called you ‘Daddy,’ where were you? When Diana wanted you to pick her up from school, where were you? When Diana needed surgery, where were you? On the day of Diana’s funeral, where were you???”

I took a deep breath, my eyes welling up. “For the rest of your life, Diana will never forgive you, and neither will !!!!

“Ken, you’re not fit to be a husband, and you’re certainly not fit to be a father! You’re a heartless beast!!!”

The slaps rang out, and Ken raised his hand, slapping himself mercilessly, muttering apologies, admitting he was wrong, that he truly was wrong.

I was so furious I nearly fainted, my heart pounding violently.

In the end, it was Candice who covered me with her coat and led me away from that place.

After that day, a signed divorce agreement was delivered to Ken.

Ken, like a madman, searched for me everywhere.

On my way to the cemetery, Ken intercepted me with the divorce papers in hand: “Cloris, I’m

sorry. Can we not divorce? I’ve already lost my daughter. I can’t lose you too…”

Ken sobbed. In just a few days, he had become haggard. His face was covered with stubble, his clothes were wrinkled, and he reeked of alcohol.

I looked down at him and said: “Ken, we’re

over.”

I turned to leave but couldn’t move.

With a thud, Ken knelt down, clutching my legs, desperately apologizing. His voice grew hoarse, drawing the attention of passersby.

I had never seen him so submissive; at that moment, I found him repulsive.

I kicked him away mercilessly, and he fell to the ground, looking dazed.

“Ken, those who harmed my daughter will not

escape.”

“Wait for the court summons.“
