My Fiance Ran Away On Our Wedding Day -
Chapter 48
Chapter 48
The Bentley drove so fast.Along the way, Anika did not speak again.
It's as if she just came back to her senses.
Half an hour later, the two of them dragged their hungry and exhausted bodies back to the villa.
Zac touched the fingerprint lock, opened the door and entered the living room.
The surroundings were quiet and pitch black.
He stretched out his hand and was about to press the switch of the hall lamp, but was stopped byAnika.
"Zac, don't turn on the light."
Her voice was choked with sobs.
In the end, she could not suppress the emotions in her heart anymore.
Zac sighed and held her in his arms.
He could feel Anika's thin shoulders constantly twitching and trembling.
His neck was so wet that it brought warmth into his heart.
In the dark living room, Anika was enveloped in Zac's embrace.
She didn't know how long she had been crying.
She knew that she must be in a pitiful state now.
She had just endured her emotions in the hospital, but when she returned to her comfort zone, shecouldn't hold them back any longer.
The doctor had repeatedly warned her that this day would come soon.
However, her heart still seemed to be empty when the only family member that she had, left her in themost remorseful way.
Zac tightened his arms around her and gently patted her back.
When her sobs gradually subsided, he lowered his voice and said, "I am still here.Anika, we are also...family now.”
Anika stiffened when she heard this.
She wasn't expecting him to consider their relationship as a family.
After a long silence, her voice became dull.
"Zac, am I very selfish?"
"Why did you say that?"
"Grandpa has been really nice to me for the past few years, but I've always been ...very impolite tohim."
Anika paused for a long time and finally found the right words to describe the distance between her andher grandfather.
Perhaps, Grandpa was also regretful.
Anika was aware that her grandfather treated her well, but her grandfather did not only treat her well, but he also loved Lucy, her cousin.
Under such circumstances, she didn't know how to put down the mental burden in her heart to face hergrandfather.
The old man was badly hurt when Anika was kidnapped at a young age.
That's why, when she finally returned home, her grandfather's attention was more focused on her, which made Lucy envious of her.
It's not like Anika didn't care about her grandfather.
She just couldn't act as flirtatious as Lucy, intentionally or unintentionally expressing her unhappinessat her grandfather's favoritism.
Perhaps, it was her personality that was flawed.
She was too selfish, so she didn't want to be open to others and bury herself in the possibility of gettinghurt.
"Anika, don't think like that. You already did a good job."
Zac's eyes were deep as he gently wiped away the tears in the corners of her eyes with the moonlightoutside the window.
"You don't want Grandpa to leave restlessly, or want him to make things difficult for you, right? “ So it'snot selfish to keep things from the Cooper family.
With that, he raised his eyebrows and patted her head, "But there's one thing you've done wrong, andyou need to correct it in the future."
Anika was stunned for a moment, then asked curiously, "What is it?"
"Don't worry so much. What you should think about is how to make yourself happy"
The last words were so soft that Anika didn't see the deep emotions in his eyes.
She had barely recovered from her intense emotions and could not make herself think deeply aboutwhat he had said.
She only frowned and regained her self control over her uncontrollable mood.
"Zac…”
"I said, don't thank me yet."
Zac interrupted her and paused for a moment, then sighed, "Anika, have you ever heard of anexplanation?"
Anika looked at him in the eyes and asked, "What explanation?"
"The real death of a person is not the moment when his life disappears, but when he is forgotten byeveryone.Grandpa doesn't want to see you sad about his departure. As long as you remember him, hedoesn't leave you."
Anika rarely heard Zac talk to her in such a serious tone, but she knew that he was trying to comforther by saying this.
Actually, the doctor had already warned them many times during this period of time that the old mancould die at any moment.
Anika was prepared for this matter.
She just regretted for not being able to say goodbye to her grandfather in the end.
At the thought of this, Anika rubbed her red and swollen eyes and whispered, "What did grandpa say toyou when you went to the old mansion last time?"
‘’What did he say?’’ Zac lowered his eyes and looked at her.
He knew that she wanted to ask whether the old man had mentioned her to him.
"Well, Grandpa said he hopes that you will be happy in the future."
He answered after a second.
Grandpa might have regretted his actions, but he did not want her to shoulder the responsibility for him.
As for her grandfather's instructions, Zac had promised.
That those things should be done by him.
The old man’s funeral was finally scheduled three days later.
When he was alive, the old man had repeatedly warned Borris that he did not want his affairs to beconducted in front of a large audience.
So, in the end, the funeral was kept low-key by only inviting a few relatives and friends they'd madeover the years.
Before his death, the old man requested that he and his late wife should be buried together in XSCemetery in the N City.
On the day of the funeral, Anika wore a solemn black suit and trousers.
She stood there emotionlessly and politely greeted the guests who came to offer their condolences.
Nataly and Alena had just finished mourning and had silently approached her side.
"Life and death are common in life Nika.Take your time."
Nataly didn't have any relatives, but she still remembered the sadness that she felt when the Principalpassed away.
She had received great support from the old man and she highly respected him.
Leaving, on the other hand, was better than suffering from an unbearable illness.
When Anika heard this, she slowly nodded and raised the corners of her mouth, "Yes, I know”
These days, she was preoccupied with the funeral of her grandfather, dealing politely andappropriately with all kinds of people.
After the initial rush of emotions, she had already become numb.
Anika was upset as she looked at the familiar picture on the tombstone, but she also realized that thiswas the kind of happy smile that her grandfather should have.
Perhaps Zac was right.
She should be used to facing her grandfather in another way, instead of letting herself remain in adepressed state.
Anika looked up at her good friend, who was still worried, and let out along sigh of relief.
"Alright, I'm fine, but I'm not used to it.” Alena didn't know how to comfort her, so she simply heldAnika's hand and changed the topic, "I see that Kayden's grandfather just called Lucy over."
Mr.Jenkins was a close friend of Robert.
Even if Anika and Kayden's engagement was called off, the Jenkins family would definitely attend thefuneral.
Just now, Mr.Jenkins came over to talk to Anika and called Lucy, who had been silent for a long time, tocome over.
"Kayden doesn't like Lucy and it’s fine with his grandfather.Anyhow, he always looks at younger peoplewho have matured.’ Nataly's eyebrows furrowed as she finished talking.
Lucy, who was dressed in black, not far away, caught Alena’'s attention.
"Grandpa died, but it was her who brought shame to the family.Suddenly, a younger brother appearedout of nowhere.I'm not even sure how Grandpa's estate will be split, but I'm at ease now.’ Alena said.
The will of the old man had already been drafted, but it would not be made public until after the funeral.
Both Oliver and Lucy might get something as part of their inheritance, but Lucy's relationship with herfather was still awkward.
Other than Oliver, everyone else has stayed in the old mansion for the past three days to look afterRobert's stuff.
Lucy, on the other hand remained silent with her eyes swollen every day.
