Chapter 54

On Friday, because Zac had an evening dinner party, Anika did not ask the driver to pick her up.

She decided to meet Alena after work and shop together.

The two of them had just finished visiting a women's clothing store when Alena, who was obviouslygloomy, sighed dejectedly and told Anika about her recent predicament.

"Nika, my aunt actually wants to introduce me to a blind date. This is too terrifying"

Alena’s aunt was a university professor who was always the most enthusiastic about matching youngpeople.

Back then, she even tried it with Anika, and only stopped after she heard that she was alreadyengaged.

Looking at Alena, who was very worried, Anika smiled, "If that's the case, then let yourself fall in love"

"But ...I can't."

Alena sighed again.

She slightly paused and continued, "I feel that I am afraid of love, let alone marriage.”

Anika frowned slightly and was surprised, "Why? Your parents both have good relationship."

She had always thought that only people like her who were emotionally deficient would be afraid ofestablishing close relationships with others.

Alena’s family was the best example of a happy one.

Her parent's relationship was solid and stable, stronger than Hadrian's Wall of England, and it was notordinary.

Of course, her father loved his only daughter so much.

"Probably because their relationship is too good, so they are even more afraid"

"Nika, forget about buying lottery tickets.I haven't even had a single bottle of wine since I was akid.since I was young.’’ Alena spoke in a dull tone.

"You always said that it's impossible for a man like my father to cheat on my mother, and I'm reallylucky to be their daughter, but that kind of relationship scares me most.I'm afraid that everything is onlygood at first."

"If I'll try and the man isn't as good as my father, I definitely won't be able to accept him, so.."

"So what?"

Anika slightly raised her eyebrows as she saw hesitation in her face.

"I think it is better for me to die alone."

Alena had just accepted her fate and ended the topic.

Only then did she realize that the two of them had already entered a men's clothing store.

She looked at Anika doubtfully, "Why are we shopping for men's clothes?"

Hearing this, Anika was slightly stunned.

‘‘Yeah, why are you in the men's shop?’’

When she noticed a coat on the door, she lowered her gaze and thought for a moment.

She walked unknowingly as she looked at it.She was thinking it would be perfect for Zac.

When she realized what she did, Anika's heart sank.

She remembered Georgia's words before, and she believe that there must be a reason why Zac waswilling to stay with her forever.

If possible, she was also willing to continue with her current life, treating Zac like a family member.

Zac had helped her a lot, and she also began to accept him as her family.

As she thought about all of this, it was as if there was an invisible rope that connected the two of themtogether.

When she cooked, she always considered his likes and dislikes.

When she shopped, she would always notice something that suited him.

Anika had yet to clarify this subtle feeling.

It was already 9 pm.

Anika and Alena finished shopping and took a taxi back to the villa.

She unlocked the door and got inside, just to be greeted by a dark surroundings.

The huge villa was quiet and empty.

Obviously, Zac hadn't returned yet.

This was the first time that Zac happened to be late since the two of them shared a room.

Anika was not used to it for a while.

She turned on the light and put down the shopping bag in her hand.

After changing her shoes, she walked to the sofa and sat down.

She was not in a hurry to go to her room.

After thinking for a while, she took out her notebook and sat back in the living room to check thedocuments sent by Sara last night.

It had been an unknown amount of time since she had finished her work and Zac hadn't returned yet.

Just as she was contemplating whether to call him or not, a knock from the door suddenly interruptedthe silence.

Anika closed her notebook and walked through the door to open it.

Under the dim door lights, she saw Frederick, who supported Zac.

The man leaned against Frederick's arm.

His eyes was blurry, his body was unstable, and his entire body was filled with the smell of alcohol.

"Madam, I'm sorry, Mr.Hill drank too much. He's still unconscious."

Frederick quickly said as he saw Anika frowned.

Anika nodded politely and held Zac from Frederick's arm.

"It's getting late, you can go home now.'' The man glanced at his drunk boss and heaved a sigh of reliefbefore he said goodbye and left.

After closing the door, Anika brought Zac upstairs.

This was the first time she had seen Zac drunk like this, and the smell of alcohol on his body was veryirritating.

When she saw Zac being supported by Frederick and unconscious from drunkenness, she realized thatshe did not like seeing him like this.

She didn't know why she had such a mentality of restricting others.

Anika reluctantly carried him into the room.

When she was about to help him to the bed, the drunk man seemed to wake up.

He hugged her waist and placed his arm on her side for support.

Anika was unprepared and stumbled to her feet.

The next second, the two of them fell onto the bed together.

Deep in the soft bed, her waist was imprisoned by his warm hands.

They were tightly clinging to each other, so close that made Anika's body suddenly tensed up due toher awkward position.

She raised her eyes to meet Zac's sight, only to see his drunk eyes, drooping eyelids, and his pair ofblurry peach blossom eyes covered in a layer of mist.

Her cold and pale complexion turned red.

She was blushing while looking into his eyes.

Her eyebrows went straight and her thin lips moved.

She could feel the warm sweat dripping on her forehead.

The man's smooth silhouette was hidden in the dim light.

His shredded hair was sticking to his eyebrows, and his sleepy eyes were quietly looking at her.

Stunned for a moment, Anika stretched out her hand and gently stroked his cold thin lips, feelingincredibly soft.

After realizing what she had done, she instantly pulled her fingertips away and got off from his hold.

She was in panic as she stood up and looked at the person lying in bed quietly, sighed in frustration, and turned around to leave the room.

A moment later, in the silent darkness, the man’s figure moved slightly and slowly opened his eyes.

He shook his head and smiled as he looked at the direction where she had left.

His eyes was deep Anika returned to her room a minute later.

The scene was still fresh in her mind.

She didn't know if she should be guilty or not, but after feeling annoyed, she suddenly remembered therighteous accusation he had made when she saw him taking a bath.

In an instant, the man’s sloppy voice sounded in her mind ...

"Anika, you really have evil intentions towards me?”

“Why ...did he become interested in seeing me?’’ Anika helplessly touched her forehead and sat on thebed, silently pondering for a while.

Then, she let out a long sigh of relief.

Giving up her fate, she picked up his phone and sent a message to their group on Viber.

"What if I suddenly realized that I like Zac and decided to pursue him, do I have a chance to succeed?"
