My Jealous Alpha Stepbrother -
Chapter 60
Lydia
The last battle is finally here, and I can almost taste the victory on my tongue as I lunge for Victoria. Jinora is with me, and so are Kade and Avery—we got this!
Adrenaline is gushing into my veins. Victoria doesn’t stand a chance as we all charge for her. She might have vampires everywhere on the street, but those are busy fighting the rest of our pack members who finally have arrived at the scene.
Giant wolves group up and attack the vampires together, biting and tearing at the b***d-suckers. They might have magic, but we have our hearts in this fight, and my fellow pack members aren’t giving up.
I can see Owen and his mate fighting for our cause. Even the other evil girls have shifted and are helping us defeat the vampire, who are outnumbered.
Victoria widens her eyes, finally seeming to realize she is left unguarded. She makes a “Tssk!” sound before attempting to leave the scene.
But we won’t let her.
Victoria jumps but is hit by a blast of fire from Avery, forcing her down on the ground, where Jinora and I bite her arms.
“You think this will stop me?!” Victoria, whose powers seem to be super strength and speed, shakes us off—only to be smashed and hit by Kade’s massive paws and claws.
A half-howl, half-roar erupts from Kade. It’s a signal for Avery to breathe fire in the area. Kade evades the flames, but Victoria isn’t as fast. She is hit by the fire and screams in agony.
“Avery!” Victoria is waving her arms in the air as if that would somehow put out the fire. “How could you do this to your own mother?!”
I can see her skin melting, but she isn’t dead yet. Some magic blows away the flames, but Jinora and I are quick to lunge for her again. Victoria tries to shake me off, but I bite so hard down on her arm until I feel my teeth.
“Get off me!” Victoria screams. “Filthy werewolves!”
My training is paying off. I’m stronger now and determinedly hold the vampire queen in place for Kade to s***h at her throat before Avery finishes her off with his blue flames.
There is nothing Victoria can do now.
Kade’s b***d magic weakened the vampire queen back when he sacrificed himself to protect Jinora. And now, Victoria is melting before our very eyes.
She screams while dying, which makes the other vampires exchange a glance. They hiss and seem to exchange telepathic messages before leaving the fight behind. Those that can flee disappear, while those who can’t are killed by our fellow pack members.
Satisfied with our work, I shape-shift back into a werewolf. My knees feel weak, and I tumble forward, but Avery is there to catch me. He chuckles above me. “Careful. You’re pregnant, remember?”
“Oh, really?” I tease and pat my fat stomach. “I seem to have forgotten all about it…”
He bends forward to k**s my cheek and rubs against the side of my face with his cold nose. An arm is still wrapped around me, and my back is facing his rippling abs. “It’s hardly visible on you either way…”
I snort at that. “Liar!”
“Fine, it’s visible, but you’re absolutely stunning,” Avery runs a hand over my stomach, and heat coils in my core. Especially when he nibbles on my ear and whispers huskily. “Now that the witch is gone, there is more time for us to bond and love each other.”
I smile up at him, filled with love for my handsome alpha, but my focus land on Jinora when I hear her gasp. Slowly I turn around to see the commotion, and then I melt.
Jinora is peering up at Kade, smiling softly back at her. “Second chance, mates, huh?”
My heart swells, and I hear Chang’e whisper, “Just fixing an earlier mistake… he isn’t a werewolf, but I think this will do.”
I smile because I know Kade and Jinora are right for each other, just like my Avery is right for me. I lean into his touch and lift my eyes to his, knowing I’m home.
“I know something you don’t…” I whisper.
Avery’s lips quirk into a half-smile. “Do you really think you can keep secrets from me?”
I laugh. “You’re not supposed to read my mind. We talked about this, Avery! Respect!”
His tone grows playful. “I haven’t read your mind… yet.”
I pout. “Well, you’re allowed to… this time…”
“This time?” He sounds curious. “What is that you want me to know?”
Smiling, I move his hand to my stomach. He has to hunker down, but he doesn’t seem to mind. Those eyes of his give me a quizzical look, and I giggle. “I know the gender.”
Avery’s eyes glow a little, and when his bottom l*p quiver, I know that he knows what I know: we have a future son. The baby inside of me is going to be our future alpha.
“We have a son. An alpha. But even though he comes from your b***d, he is going to be weak,” I whisper, and my heart sinks. “It frightens me because he might face the same fate as me and be the bullied weakling of the pack that nobody wishes to make friends with…”
“No, he won’t,” Avery hugs me to him, and I inhale his scent since it’s soothing for my soul.
But despite listening to his heartbeats, I’m still concerned. “I just can’t stop worrying… my head is spinning right now… I can’t even be happy that we defeated Victoria… I’m just… Our son will be a human when he is born, and I’m so concerned for his safety…”
“You’re worrying for nothing. Our son has us… And we will be here for him, protecting him until he is ready to become alpha. And I will make sure the rest of the pack sees him as their alpha, even if he might not awaken as a werewolf for a long while.”
“You promise you will love him regardless?” I know Avery will love our son, but I need to hear him say it. I’m so worried for our son’s future. Will he have any friends?
Avery snorts. “How could I not love my own flesh and b***d? This baby is everything to me… you both are. I will keep all of us safe,” he leans down and smiles into my face. “I promise.”
The worry in my chest hasn’t settled, but I’m smart enough to understand complaining about it won’t help. So I stand on my tiptoes and k**s Avery’s lips instead.
We got this—I know we do. Avery and I will protect our son. Victoria is gone, and our only known enemy at the moment are the vampires, and while they are a powerful foe, I don’t think they hold grudges… but perhaps I’m wrong?
