Lydia

Eleven years later

After we took down Victoria, a lot of things happened at once. The vampires left the city. And even though there have been some rogue vampire attacks, it’s been nothing out of the ordinary.

It’s strange, but it seems the vampires are lying low. We haven’t even been visited by Avery’s older vampire brother. Which is… odd, but it’s not like we are complaining.

Avery told me his brother is named Damien, and according to Avery, he hates werewolves. That is why Avery replaces it weird he hasn’t attacked us yet. But perhaps he is choosing peace?

Anyway… the second thing that happened was that Avery announced that our city could return to living in peace, and then he told everyone that I was pregnant with the future alpha.

Most people cheered for us, but not my mother. She seems to have a problem with vampires, and Avery and I aren’t on speaking terms with our parents. His dad isn’t angry with us but doesn’t dare to reach out because of my mother.

It’s okay.

We have each other and our best friends on our side. Jinora and Kade still live in our mansion. It’s too big for only one family, and they are the godparents to our son, Misha. And Avery and I are the godparents to their daughter, Josephine.

I’m sure I will be the godmother to their other children in the future as well. Why? Because I’m pregnant again, and so is Jinora.

At first, Jinora and I weren’t going to have more kids despite wanting them. Giving birth to hybrid babies takes a toll on the body. Jinora took it even harder than me, but I’ve become an extremely powerful healer—this is why Jinora isn’t afraid to give birth again.

I’m happy to aid her! I’m also thrilled to be pregnant again. I can’t wait for my twin girls to be born!

Smiling to myself, I continue cutting vegetables for tonight’s dinner. Avery doesn’t eat human food, but everyone else does, and I’m the assigned cook in our house.

I rinse some carrots in the sink, and when I cut a cucumber, I hear an insecure voice behind me.

“Mom…?”

“Yes, Misha?” I ask without turning around.

“Why is Josie taller than me? I’m older than her…”

I glance down at my son over my shoulder, smiling. Misha still hasn’t awakened as a werewolf, and neither does he has his vampire strength. He is weak, but it has made him humble.

Misha respects everyone and can often be found smiling. He loves to give me and Avery hugs and brings in flowers from our garden. A pet rabbit is in his room, and he is lovely.

He is also scarily mature for his age, but Avery told me it comes with being a vampire. They are more intelligent.

Either way, I couldn’t ask for a better son, but I’m sad that he is starting to notice that he is shorter than the other werewolves his age. Not to mention weaker; now even little Josephine is taller than him.

“Oh, honey. You will catch up to Josephine. Girls mature faster than guys. You’re also just a late bloomer.”

Misha doesn’t look convinced and stares down at the ground. His eyes are purely blue, but I know they might come to change later.

He has his dad’s jawline and perfect face, but he has my full lips and nose. His eyelashes are also super long, like the one belonging to Avery, and I know he will be an absolute stunner once he grows older.

The only weird thing is that his hair is purely white. Does that come from the moon goddess or Victoria?

“How can you be so sure?” Misha asks in a small voice. “What if I will be this short forever?”

“Oh no, that won’t happen! You’ve seen your dad, right?”

“Yeah…”

“And you have his genes,” I beam at him. “You have our alpha’s b***d running in your veins, and you’re also a part vampire—you’re not going to be small forever.”

His lips curl into the most adorable smile. “Promise?”

“I promise.”

Misha smiles even brighter, and then he comes in to hug me. It takes me by surprise, but then I smile when he squeezes me the hardest he can. He is such a cuddler, and I’m lucky he is tiny—if he were bigger and hugged me like that, I would choke to death.

“I love you, mom.”

My heart swells, and I turn around to return the hug and stroke a hand over his white, smooth hair. “I love you too.”

Misha lifts his chin to smile into my face, and that’s when I notice the bruise on his cheek. It’s ugly and blue and punches the next breath from my lungs. How did he get that?!

“Misha…” I grab his face, and my heartbeat kicks up a notch. “Where did you get the bruise from?!”

His bottom l*p trembles at the question, and I dig my eyes into him, willing him to tell me the truth. He hesitates, but eventually, his shoulders slump.

“Asher and his brothers did it… he claims he will be the future alpha because I’m so pathetic and weak…”

A growl threatens to leave my lips. Asher is Owen and Sally’s eldest son. They have three kids: Asher, Allen, and Alex. All three of them are pricks, but their father takes the price.

Despite being mated to Sally, Owen has tried to k**s me more than once during pack meetings. He claims he is bored of his mate and doesn’t respect the fact I’m with Avery.

I seriously dislike that whole family…

“You’re not weak,” I say and place my hands on Misha’s shoulders. He must look at me while I tell him this. “You’re a late bloomer, Misha. You might not have awakened as a werewolf yet, but you will, and those who bullied you will be sorry then. Because you will become one of the strongest werewolves in the entire world.”

“Even if that’s true, I don’t want to hurt anyone,” Misha whispers with tears in the corner of his eyes. “I don’t like violence…”

I smile at him. “I’m sorry to say this, but violence is sometimes necessary in our world, especially when we need to protect those we love. Remember that, Misha.”

Misha looks like he is about to say something, but our sweet moment is interrupted by Kade clearing his throat. I turn around and replace him standing at the door opening, smiling weakly.

“I had a vision…”

I raise an eyebrow. “Oh yeah?”

“Mhm,” he grins in that trademark way of his. “You might not like it, but my daughter, Josephine, is the perfect bodyguard for Misha. I’ve seen it in my visions—she will make an excellent protector.”

Anxiety pounds in my chest because while Josephine is strong and very tall for being a woman, I fear Misha might not like the thought of having her as a bodyguard.

Josephine is also a year younger—Jinora’s first pregnancy ended up being a miscarriage. Kade didn’t see it coming, but it’s to be expected. All his visions don’t come true, and Jinora only miscarried because of a vampire attack…

I look down at Misha. “What do you think of—”

“I accept,” Misha says and shrugs at me, smiling. “It might take away some of my pride as a man, but… Josie is strong, and I can’t deny that fact. She can already shape-shift into a lycan.”

My chest fills with pride. Misha can be mature and reasonable when he wants to be—I admire that trait.

My eyes travel to Kade. “You heard him—let’s make Josephine the alpha’s bodyguard.”

Kade grins. “It will be an honor for her to take on this challenge. Josephine was already excited when I asked her about this—she will be thrilled to protect her beloved childhood friend!”

I smile and feel happiness blossom in my chest. It seems I won’t have to worry about that werewolf Asher—not with Josephine around. The bullying will certainly stop now that Misha has a bodyguard.
