My Mate Is An Omega
Chapter 38

Caitlyn POV

I couldn't believe my eyes as I watched Megan shamelessly jump on Luke. At first, I thought she was just being her usual self and running after hot boys. Luke was quite good-looking with his blonde hair, golden eyes, and very muscular build. However, she was never that aggressive - at least not when she was sober - so I quickly dismissed that possibility. In the end, I realized her reaction could only mean one thing - my best friend and my Beta were mates.

Once the shock was gone, all I could feel was excitement. After being separated for months, we would finally be reunited. I couldn't wait to introduce her to our land and our friends; I knew she would fit in perfectly. The Beta Female position also suited her very well, considering the second-in-command was supposed to lead training. Being an exceptional, experienced warrior, I knew she would have many great insights to offer.

It was hard to keep my cool during dinner when I wanted to talk to her so badly. I was furious when she left, pretending not to hear me. As soon as the business meal was over, I tried calling and sending hundreds of text messages, but it seemed like her phone was off while she had a day in paradise with Lance's best friend. So much for the girl who scolded me when I took a little over an hour to tell her about my second chance mate.

She finally reached out to me early in the morning. While my Alpha and his right hand man were busy discussing a few final details with Cedar, I visited her at her house to help her pack. After she pretended not to completely ignore my lecture about how mad I was at her for dismissing me the entire night, I demanded she tell me everything.

Of course, my extroverted friend had a much different start with her mate than I did. She mentioned how he got her a bottle of champagne to set the mood before they decided to let their wolves out so they too could have a chance to meet each other. King and Pearl were a perfect match; they even had similar colors. The more she told me about their heavenly first date, the more impressed I was by how romantic Luke was. From what I heard, he had slept around a little, but he seemed to be less of a nymphomaniac than Jasper - which wasn't too hard, honestly.

"After our wolves gave us back control, I took him to the Ninebark garden and we mated under the light of the moon." She sighed like a love drunk schoolgirl, giving me mixed feelings. On the one hand, it was heartwarming to know she was happy, but on the other hand, it was so weird to see the badass Megan like this.

"Oh no! Not in my sacred place!" My nose crinkled as I faked disgust.

"Yes, girl!" She wrapped one arm around my neck to pull me closer, sitting on top of the suitcase on her bed in hopes her weight would help her close it. "And he's not only gorgeous as f**k, he's also amazing in bed. His hands, and his tongue, and his di-" "Damn it, Meg! Spare me the details!" I turned out of her grasp, waving her off. She laughed triumphantly at my reaction.

"You're still such a saint. I know you and Lance have done the deed more than a few times."

"Yeah, but I don't see the point in bragging about his... whatever!" I furrowed my eyebrows, but I couldn't hold my act for too long. I soon smiled sincerely at her, pulling her in for a hug. She giggled.

"What's that for?"

"I'm just so happy we'll be living in the same pack again."

"Me too, babe," she replied honestly.

"I can't wait to show you everything! I'm sure you'll love it."

"Of course, I will!" She hopped off the bed, placing her suitcase on the floor before she turned to me with an excited look on her face. "Can you believe we're at the top of the food chain now? The two Omegas! Everyone would have laughed at us if we as much as dreamt about flying this high!"

"What do you mean?" I arched an eyebrow at her.

"You're the Luna of Diamond Tempest, and I'll be Beta Female!" she clarified, her eyes glistening. "Think of all the fine drinks we could have!"

"Really, Meg? You could buy anything in the world, and the first thing that comes to your mind is alcohol?" I shook my head in disapproval, but smiled nonetheless. "You haven't changed at all."

"I just have my priorities straight." She shrugged, taking one last look at the house she grew up in before walking out to never come back.

Together, we made our way to the town square, where the car and our men were already waiting for us. Luke opened his arms wide to welcome his mate, but she totally walked past him the second her eyes locked on the limousine. I couldn't blame her though; going from the lowest to one of the highest ranks in the blink of an eye was a lot to take in. As always, my best friend was more excited about the benefits rather than her responsibilities. She knew how to be serious when needed though, which is why I knew she would make an awesome Beta Female. Diamond Tempest could also use some of her fresh, upbeat energy; the atmosphere had been quite heavy back home.

Although our trip hadn't been exactly relaxing considering my stressful reunion with my former mate and the following gruesome challenge, it was nice to visit my former pack. It helped get my mind off the latest events, and I finally got to have a peaceful night with Lance without having to worry about late night duties or early morning training. As I looked out the window, I didn't realize how tired I was or how comfortable my mate's shoulder was until I fell asleep on him, listening to my Beta while he explained everything about our pack to Megan.

Lance woke me up with a light kiss on my forehead. As I slowly opened my eyes, I realized we had arrived at our lands. He flashed me a smile before stretching his hand out to help me up. Once I hopped out of the car, I noticed Sasha and Jasper were standing by the entrance of our modern pack house, ready to welcome us. Both of their eyes widened as soon as they fell on our Beta, who was holding hands with the wild-looking girl.

"What the f**k, man?" The ginger boy threw his hands up in the air. "You're always criticizing me, but every time someone goes to Whistler they come back with a girl! I wanna go there too!" His attitude earned him a slap on the back of his head from the Gamma's daughter. "Ouch!"

"You're a Gamma now. Manners!" She scowled at him before a small smile played on her lips. "And why would you even want to replace your mate? Aren't you having enough fun without her already?"

I had to laugh. It was nice to take a quick break from everything, but I had missed these guys a lot. Their silly bickering, our talks, our evenings together; in such a short time, they had already become part of my family. And now that my best friend was here, it was finally complete. Luke took a step forward, pulling his mate closer to him by her waist. He cleared his throat, catching our two friends' attention to prevent them from engaging in another one of their pointless arguments.

"This is Megan Campbell, my mate and Beta Female. Also known as our Luna's best friend." He flashed a wink at her before gesturing towards the girl and the boy. "This is Sasha, our soon-to-be Delta, and Jasper, our not-so-efficient Gamma."

"Thank you for the marvelous introduction, Beta-douche." The stray rolled his eyes at his friend. He soon turned his attention to the newcomer, playfully taking a bow. "If you ever get tired of your boyfriend, Miss Campbell, you know where to replace me." Luke immediately growled, causing Jasper to smile triumphantly - that was clearly the reaction he was trying to provoke.

When Megan opened her mouth, I knew she had a sassy response ready for him, but Sasha was faster. "Please don't mind him. He's always like that." She waved him off. "I promise he tells good jokes though, which makes hanging out with him... tolerable?" "Don't worry, I get it." My best friend crossed her arms, a smart smile on her face. "It's obvious he's the funny one."

"Is that a girl code or something?" the ginger boy asked, both annoyed and curious.

"Have you figured out who we are yet?" Completely ignoring the Gamma, Luke turned to me, pointing at him and my mate.

"Lance's the romantic one, definitely." Megan and I said in unison. We stared at each other for a brief second before bursting out laughing; it was so nice to have her back.

"Yes! I knew I was the smart one!" The Beta celebrated, but his excitement soon died down. "Wait, is that even a good thing?"

"I think I can live with that." Lance shrugged, pulling me closer. "I already have a smart Luna anyway." Without warning, he crashed his lips against mine.

"Ew! Gross!" Jasper stuck his tongue out, faking disgust.

"Yeah, definitely a good thing," Luke observed.

Once everyone had become acquainted with the newest member of our pack, we agreed to meet at the Alpha's office later so we could have time to leave our bags in our respective rooms and change into more comfortable clothes. Exactly half an hour later, we were gathered in the room where Lance and I spent most of our days working. Since my mate would only formally become Alpha tomorrow during our joint ceremony, James was also present to perform the same ritual Dario had carried with me the day I arrived at Diamond Tempest.

The older man wore a proud smile on his face when his son introduced him to the woman he had brought home. For the first time in my life, I watched Megan let her sassy façade fall as she did her best to portray herself as a suitable mate. She had had her fair share of men in the past, but this was different. It was her first real relationship, one she actually cared about. She didn't expect to meet her mate's father so soon, yet she wanted to make a good first impression. James didn't even seem to notice she was trying so hard though; he was just happy for his son. He was as gentle as possible as he drew the silver blade along her palm, and in the blink of an eye, Megan's ties to our pack had been established. She was officially one of us.

"Welcome to Diamond Tempest, Miss Campbell." The former Beta nodded at her. "I truly hope you will be able to replace happiness here, with my son."

There were hearts in her eyes as she glanced at her mate. Honestly, who was this girl and what did she do to my best friend? "I'm sure I will, Sir."

"Please, just calm me James. There's no need for formalities between us," the man assured her. "Plus, you will be presented as this pack's Beta Female tomorrow. As second-in-command, you shall bow to no one other than your Alpha and Luna. I doubt they will demand it though."

"You know what I just realized?" The brightest smile crossed Luke's face as he wrapped one arm around his mate's neck. "As Beta Female, Meg will be in charge of heading training with me. This is perfect! She knows a lot about women training, which will definitely help our female warriors improve, and Sasha will be able to focus solely on her performance."

The whole room went silent as the Beta slowly understood what he had just said. He wasn't wrong, but he forgot to ask the former Gamma's daughter how she would feel about the change. So far, she had fully dedicated herself to training our she-wolves, and she seemed to enjoy the responsibility. Luke stared at Sasha, opening his mouth as he tried to replace a way to correct the situation, but she quickly stopped him.

"You're right. This is amazing." The black-haired woman forced a smile. "I'm sure Megan will be able to help much more than me anyway."

"You have helped a lot, Sasha," I reassured her, offering her a comforting smile. "If it weren't for you, women wouldn't even be allowed to join training."

"For the thousandth time, that was your achievement. Stop trying to humble yourself." She chuckled. "Anyway, I have to go. And you're coming with me, mister!" She pulled Jasper by the hem of his shirt. "There's a lot you still have to learn."

"Of course." He sighed, letting his head fall backwards.

"I guess we do too." Lance flashed me an apologetic smile.

And back to our busy lives we went.

After yet another day of lessons, planning, and signing documents, I was ready to lock myself in the Alpha suite. I would love to spend some time with my best friend and show her around, but judging by how I was met with a block when I tried to reach her, I guessed Luke was already taking care of that. Instead, I was satisfied with just sitting at the dining table with my mate so we could share a fresh meal specially prepared for us. Later on, we cuddled in bed to watch a movie on our huge TV.

As sleep started to consume me, I couldn't help but think about how the past few months had been an emotional roller coaster ride. One minute, we were at rock bottom, only to be on top of the world the next. Although we were fine now, it was hard for me to truly enjoy our days. Somewhere deep inside of me, I knew it wouldn't last long.
