My Mate Is An Omega -
My Mate Is A Virgin Chapter 32
Jasper POV
The day following our coronation night went by in the blink of an eye. I had to accompany Andromeda on multiple meetings and helped her go over piles of documents. Since the king pretty much played the role of a consort in cat society, with the female leader actually ruling over a kingdom, my main duty was to provide support and companionship to my queen. Of course, I had to know everything she did in order to participate and help her in meetings, but I was a quick learner. In the end, it wasn't as scary as I had expected. It was still a little tiring to constantly conceal my emotions, but seeing how happy she was made it all worth it.
Although my first day as king was quite hectic, I took it as a great opportunity to keep myself busy, which prevented me from worrying about my weird powers. I had finally been able to communicate with Phoenix, who, sadly, was just as confused as I was. He explained that he felt drained after our combat with Wade, but the real reason why I couldn't reach out to him was because he was hiding away in the depths of my mind. Like my mate suggested, he was shocked, and also scared of how destructive his newfound abilities could be. Our conversation didn't make me feel any better, but since there was nothing I could do but wait, I tried my best not to think about it.
When the next morning rolled around, I was triply excited. It would be my first reunion with my friends, including Sasha, after being away from them for longer than I had ever been, and I was also in desperate need of spending some time away to clear my mind. However, the main reason why I was thrilled about my return to Diamond Tempest was that Lance let me know they had found clues on what could be happening to me.
"Our car is ready." My mate's melodic voice immediately pulled me from my thoughts. She snaked her arms around my chest from behind, resting her head on my shoulder. "Are you ready to go?"
I closed my suitcase and slowly turned around to give her a quick peck in the lips. "Yeah. You sure you can come, though? It's only your second day as queen and-"
"My King, this trip has been planned out for weeks now. Adriana is prepared to handle everything in my absence," she insisted before her eyes glistened with sympathy, and she cupped my face with one of her hands. "Besides, this isn't only a political visit. Your friends are certain they have been able to solve the mystery about what happened during the challenge. I wanna be there with you when you learn about who you are."
I couldn't fight back a smile. "It's been a long journey, and you've been with me through every step of the way so far." She returned the gesture, fully understanding what I meant.
"And I will stay right here by your side until the end." She cleared her throat, putting on her queen guise. "Come on now. We won't get to Diamond Tempest by lunchtime if you keep trying to make changes to our plans."
"Yes, My Queen." I straightened my posture, interlacing our fingers as we headed out.
Once we made it to the limousine parked in front of the castle, the two male guards who would be accompanying us during our stay opened the doors for us. I was surprised to see that neither of them was Wade, but I guess it made sense; not only was he surely still scared of me, but my mother-in-law also probably wanted to keep a close eye on him.
Although my anxiety made it seem like the ride was lasting hours, we eventually crossed the borders of my former home. The sound of the sentinels howling to announce our arrival was music to my ears. Judging by the way Phoenix started wagging his tail as he paced around in my head, I realized he was as glad as I was to be back. I wondered if the squad would be up for a late night run, just for old times' sake.
Nostalgia hit me as I watched the familiar landscape through the window until we reached the town square, which was quite busy with pack members heading to the party. Our car stopped in front of the Event Hall, and as soon as I stepped outside, wolves came up to greet me. It was nice to realize I hadn't been forgotten after being away for a month.
The moment we walked into the ballroom, which had been entirely decorated in Diamond Tempest's traditional colors, Andromeda told the guards to go enjoy the party so we could be by ourselves. Since I wasn't able to mindlink my friends anymore, I had to scour through the crowd to search for them, but they found me first.
"Ah, Your Majesty! Welcome back home." Lance's voice caught my attention, and I turned around to replace him mock-reverencing me. He had Caitlyn on his left, Luke on his right, and Charles right behind him. "Have you tried the champagne yet? We've ordered the finest just for you, though I doubt it is as high-quality as the ones you're used to drinking."
"I'm more of a whiskey guy. You know that." I joined his game, letting go of my mate's hand for a brief second to give him a hug.
"Sadly, we don't have whiskey today," Caitlyn observed as she approached me with a playful smile. "We do have tequila though." "Of course you do." I laughed before wrapping my arms around her.
"Thank you for coming, Queen Andromeda." From the corner of my eye, I watched Lance stretch his hand out to my mate.
"Please, Lancaster, we are family. There's no need for formalities here," she replied, smiling.
"As you wish, Dree." He returned the gesture as he shook his hand. While she greeted the Luna, I turned to the Beta.
"You put on some weight. You weren't this muscular when you left," he pointed out, eyeing me from head to toe. In the end, he smirked. "Still too lean for a king though."
"I'm afraid I'll never be as buff as you, Hulk." I joked, making him roll his eyes. At last, I glanced at Charles. "How's the new Gamma doing?"
He looked away shyly. "I, uh...made a few mistakes, but-"
"You're too humble, Charles." Lance shook his head as he patted the boy's shoulder, turning to me soon after. "He's doing a great job." "Thank you, Alpha." The third-in-command smiled.
"Good to know y'all have replaced me that quickly."
"You haven't changed at all, have you?" My former Alpha scoffed.
"Is that a bad thing?" I arched an eyebrow at him.
"Not at all." Caitlyn chimed in, happiness in her hazel eyes. She remained just as sweet as I remembered her. "We missed you, Jasper."
"I missed you too. All of you," I replied sincerely, before I remembered the reason why we were here in the first place. "Now, where's my nephew?"
"He should be with Megan?" Lance flashed a questioning look at his Luna.
"Yeah. She was by the bar with him when I left them," Cait confirmed, leading the way.
"Is that a healthy combination?" I couldn't help but ask as I followed after her.
"Well, she made a promise to stop drinking for a year after our pup was born..." She made a brief pause, continuing in a lower voice, "Honestly, I'm surprised she's already kept it for more than a week."
We stopped when we spotted the black-haired woman right where Caitlyn said she would be, rocking the little boy in her arms.
"...And this is champagne. Taste's awful, but there's a few nice drinks you can make with it. When you're old enough, aunt Megan's gonna teach you all of her bartending secrets." The Beta Female smiled at the pup, who had a big grin on his face. "Alright, gimme my son back!" The Luna startled her. "He's barely a week old, and you're already trying to turn him into an alcoholic?"
"Hey, it's one of the greatest pleasures in life!" Her best friend argued.
"I disagree." The moment Megan heard my voice, her eyes widened. She then greeted me in the same way as always - by jumping into my arms.
"My drinking buddy! You're back!"
"I thought you weren't drinking anymore?" I pointed out. The Beta Female blinked a few times after she pulled away.
"s**t! Why did I make that stupid promise?!" She frowned, causing her best friend to shake her head in disapprovement.
"Anyway..." Caitlyn took a step forward. My gaze finally landed on the small pup in her arms. My heart melted when his big yellowish-green eyes, identical to his father's, focused on me, full of curiosity. His facial features were delicate, similar to his mother's, and although it was still too soon to tell, it looked like his hair would be wavy, like hers. "This is Oberon. Would you like to hold him?" I immediately nodded, and she happily handed him to me.
"Oberon, huh? A strong name, fitting for an Alpha heir." I smiled at the infant. His attention was on my fiery red hair, and it didn't take him long to stretch his hands out to try and grab it.
"Lance wanted his name to sound powerful, but I wanted him to have a sweet nickname, so we call him Ron for short," Caitlyn explained.
"You came up with the perfect name for our son, my Luna." There were hearts in Lance's eyes as he pulled his mate in a side hug, kissing the top of her head. They seemed even more in love with each other than they were the last time I saw them.
"The pup makes their bond stronger." Phoenix's shy voice echoed in my head. He had grown quieter ever since he did...whatever the f**k that fire thing was. "I wonder when mate will wanna have pups..." It was still a bit too early for that, but the thought made me smile.
"Or kittens," I reminded him, and a question immediately popped inside my head.
"Can I hold him too?" Andromeda was looking at the pup in my arms, but she was clearly talking to Caitlyn.
"Of course!" the Luna cheerfully replied.
As I let her take the little boy, a huge smile lit up her face. "Aren't you the sweetest thing!" Oberon giggled instantly. Damn, she had a way with kids - which was surprising, considering cat's views on family.
"So, uh...is he a bear or a wolf?" I asked the million-dollar question.
"We're not sure yet," Lance confessed, a hint of worry in his expression.
"The doctors said there's a higher chance he's a pure wolf, but..." Caitlyn continued, her voice low as a whisper. "They're not sure how my Original genes will affect him."
"I'm sure he'll be a mighty Alpha either way," my queen kindly said as she handed the pup back to his mother.
"Thank you." Caitlyn smiled.
"And look who we have here!" The Alpha cheered.
My eyes widened as I glanced over my shoulder. The black-haired woman with eyes bluer than Garibaldi Lake, whom I hadn't seen in almost three months, exhibited an even more powerful aura - it was easy to tell she had reached her full potential. It was nice to see her shine so bright; she never had the chance to while she was in our old pack. She walked towards us, arm-in-arm with her perfect Alpha.
"Welcome back, Luna Sasha." Lance smiled at her before shaking hands with her man. "You too, Alpha Cedar."
"Thank you for having us, Alpha Lancaster. Congratulations to you and your Luna." The man nodded at the couple.
We all engaged in a conversation, and Sasha and I kept exchanging glances; there was so much we wanted to talk about, but at the same time, there were too many people around for either of us to feel comfortable. At some point, Lance and Cait excused themselves to introduce the heir to a few other guests. It didn't take long for Luke and Megan to run off as well, leaving the four of us alone. We made small talk for a bit, until my mate flashed me an understanding look.
"I'll go get us some champagne, My King." She smiled at me. Before I could say anything, Alpha Cedar spoke.
"Would you like some too, ma chérie?"
Sasha hesitated before answering, "Yes, please." He gave her a soft peck on the cheek before leaving with Andromeda.
As I thought about where to start, the two of us remained in silence for a while until my old friend broke it. "A king, huh? Not bad." She grinned playfully, and I found myself doing the same.
"Who would have thought?"
"I mean... it kinda makes sense." The moment she looked away, I knew she was about to tease me. "You always wanted to run a brothel. I guess it's kinda like that, considering most of the clan members are females."
I couldn't hold my laughter. "Ironic, isn't it?" I took a deep breath before continuing, not bothering to hide my honesty. "I don't have eyes for any of them though. I'm a happily mated man." Lifting my arm up, I rolled my sleeve down a little to show her the mark on my wrist. Her blue eyes immediately grew wider.
"I can't believe I'm hearing those words coming out of your mouth. You've changed, Jasper Stray!"
"For the better, I hope."
Then, I started telling her all about my new life at Snow Pelt, from the challenges I had to face, to the joys of my coronation. She proceeded to do the same. Although we had kept in touch, talking to her in person felt...different. I guess we were different. But it was nice to see our friendship hadn't changed if anything, it had grown stronger.
We managed to catch up before our mates returned, and we got to know each other better over a good glass of champagne. Roughly an hour later, we were reunited with the rest of the squad to drink and talk. I didn't think I would still feel so at home here, perhaps even more than I did when I was actually part of the pack. It made me feel so at peace.
Like they say, time flies when you're having fun, and soon enough, the party was over. It was great to forget about my troubles for a while, but I had learned the hard way that I couldn't run from them forever. Once the Event Hall was empty, we headed together to the pack house, where Caitlyn said her goodbyes so she and little Oberon could go get some rest. Lance stayed with us to lead us to his office, where Cordelia was waiting for us.
I don't think this room had ever been this full, and it didn't help with my nervousness. Thankfully, Andromeda was there to hold my hand and remember me to stay calm. The witch walked behind the table, where she held an open book close to her chest. I hoped no one could hear my heart threatening to beat out of my chest as I stared at the woman.
"Are you ready?" Cordelia asked with a serious expression.
"Bring it on." I sighed heavily.
She placed the book on the table, pointing at a specific page. I barely had time to read it before she announced, "You're a Phoenix Wolf, Jasper."
