Chapter 1706 I Just Can't

"That's right. Let's go." Sally, knowing about Micah's background, felt even more sympathetic towards him. She asked, "Have you eaten those pastries yet?"

"I offered them to the altar."

Micah didn't tell Sally that he prayed for her when he offered those pastries.

Sally reminded him, "Make sure to eat it! You should follow Father's guidance and be obedient. When I come back next time, I'll replace out how you've become." Micah looked up at her and said, "Aren't you going to have breakfast at the dining hall? They are serving pancakes and sandwiches today!"

Sally had originally planned to visit a well-reputed coffee shop for breakfast on the way.

Seeing Micah's hopeful eyes, she looked at Elijah and said,

"Elijah, how about we have breakfast here before leaving?"

"Sure!" Without waiting for Elijah's response, Micah eagerly nodded.

"Alright, let's have breakfast here," Elijah agreed with a sigh.

Micah's joy was visibly evident, and he couldn't contain his excitement. "Let's go! Hurry, or there will be nothing left."

Elijah and Sally followed him.

Micah somehow seemed more energetic than in the past few days.

After arriving at the dining hall, Micah brought Sally some food, as well as a bowl of cereal.

Then he sat across from Sally, his eyes sparkling as he watched her eat.

Sally didn't expect much from the dining hall's food, but to her surprise, the pancakes were delicious.

The aroma of the maple syrup and thyme was just right, not overly sweet.

She devoured three pancakes and a sandwich and let out a satisfied burp.

Micah couldn't help but laugh heartily at her appetite.

After they finished breakfast, Sally and Elijah had to leave.

Micah walked them to their car, his reluctance becoming evident on his face.

"Next time you come, it'll be colder. Make sure to dress warmly, Mrs. Patterson." Micah looked up at Sally, trying to replace out when she would return.

Sally was different from the other devotees who had visited the church before.

She was lively, spoke freely, and didn't adhere to many rules.

However, she would play with him, buy him ice cream, chat with him, and listen to him talk about the church's stray cats.

"When I come back, it probably won't be that cold yet. See? When the tree in the center of the church turns yellow, I'll be back," Sally replied with a playful smile.

Micah calculated in his mind.

"So... in three or four months?"

"Maybe even sooner. It depends!" Sally answered.

"Alright, please come earlier!" Micah said earnestly, "You can only have pancakes on a certain few days every month!"

"Got it."

Sally knew that Micah didn't want her to leave.

She touched his cheek gently. "Go back now. Next time I come, I'll bring you some delicious treats."

"Okay."

Micah stepped aside and waved at Sally.

Sally also waved back at him.

Then, she turned around and got in the car.

As she closed the door, she looked in the rearview mirror and saw Micah wiping away tears with his sleeve.

Sally felt quite distressed.

Elijah saw her sad face and grabbed her hand.

Then, the off-road vehicle slowly left the parking lot.

What Sally and Elijah didn't know was that at the church's entrance, after they had left, Adonis, leaning on his crutch and supported by Brett, stepped over the threshold. Adonis watched the car until it disappeared from view.

Brett, curious about Adonis' intentions, finally asked, "Father, why didn't you meet them?"

When the car completely disappeared from Adonis' sight,

he said, "I just can't."
