My Mommy Became A Billionaire After the Breakup -
Chapter 1822
Chapter 1822 Unfortunate Endings
Sally looked at Micah.
His face was filled with worry, as if he thought Sally would be doomed sooner or later.
Sally laughed and said, "It's okay."
Micah looked puzzled and asked, "What's okay?"
"It's okay even if the situation you described were to happen," Sally replied. She leaned forward, resting her hands on her knees, and gazed gently at Micah. "I have my own career and am quite good at making money."
Micah blinked his eyes.
"Weren't you supported by Brother Elijah?"
"Who told you that?"
"I heard it when talking to a pilgrim who used to live in the same yard as you."
The church not only accommodated volunteers or monks but also welcomed some pilgrims who were willing to stay for a short while.
During Sally's previous visit, she stayed in a spacious yard where many pilgrims, monks, and volunteers resided.
Sally was pretty, and she naturally caught the attention of some people.
Some would gather privately and gossip about her.
Micah overheard a few pilgrims discussing these things while sweeping leaves on the evening of Sally and Elijah's second day at Northern Canakey.
The pilgrims remarked that Sally was in her thirties but looked like she was in her twenties.
They speculated that she must have married well into a wealthy family, enjoying a life of luxury, which prevented her from aging.
"I'm managing Elijah's earnings. But I was already financially independent even before meeting him," Sally proudly responded. She gently touched Micah's head and said, "Moreover, Elijah isn't like those irresponsible men."
Micah didn't show much expression.
He had heard these kinds of words many times before.
Sally seemed to anticipate his thoughts and chuckled helplessly. "Never mind, little one. You won't understand even if I tell you. Just remember that I'm good at making money!"
"Being good at making money makes you even more dangerous!"
Micah suddenly remembered something.
He clenched his right fist and struck his left palm forcefully.
His anxious appearance was truly endearing to Sally. She asked, "What's wrong?"
"From last summer to this summer, we had two or three cases of wife-killing during the soul-saving ceremonies in our church. It happened because the deceased wives were too wealthy, or their families were too wealthy, and their husbands coveted their wealth and killed them!"
Sally was shocked.
She had thought that the environment in the monastery was simple, but she didn't expect...
"Forget it. Let's have breakfast first!" Sally felt that if they continued the conversation, Micah's imagination about her future could come up with many unfortunate endings. "Okay," Micah replied.
When they walked to the dining hall entrance, Micah said, as if he was afraid that Sally might be upset, "I wasn't wishing for you to be unhappy. I hope you'll be well."
"I know!" Sally quickly responded, "You can rest assured. Our relationship is so close, I certainly wouldn't think negatively of you!"
Micah immediately became happy.
He went with Sally to get their breakfast.
"Micah, why did you come so late today? The pancakes are almost gone!" a volunteer serving food called out to Micah and waved.
Micah usually appeared quite serious, but today, he was visibly cheerful.
He followed behind Sally like a little puppy with its tail wagging and enthusiastically recommended different dishes to her.
"Micah, how much do you think I can eat?"
Knowing her own appetite, Sally took enough food and stopped.
"I'm just worried you won't eat enough. Ingrate!"
