Chapter 2016 He Didn't Give In

Upon Athena's initial arrival at Byron's side, she did not know of his uncle's existence.

It wasn't until six months down the line when she attended a gathering with the Crawford family, intending to bring Byron a tie, that she overheard Lola mentioning her brother-in-law. The party was still going well at that point, with Alivia appearing regal and in high spirits.

It was obvious that Alivia was in a pretty good mood that day.

Little did anyone suspect that upon hearing Lola mention Larry, Alivia got mad on the spot.

Athena was a newcomer and not very courageous, so she was shocked.

Later, she learned that Alivia had a son who was raised as the heir of the family but died young.

Since then, his name had become a taboo for the Crawford family.

On that day, Lola made a conscious effort to mention Larry. She was reeling from the disappointment of one of her major projects being vetoed by Alivia. Lola naturally would not search her conscience.

She only thought that at that time, Byron's Imbe Group started to grow stronger, and Alivia wanted to control her and deliberately hindered her in the project. Adhering to the fact that Alivia gave her a hard time, she would not let Alivia get away with it, so she deliberately mentioned Larry when Alivia was happiest. Lola said this at the time, "On such a happy day, I can't help but think of Larry. He is much smarter than Byron's father, but it's a pity that he didn't have any kids..."

At the time, no one paid much attention to Lola's comment.

However, years later, it all came back to Lola like a flashback.

The office was quiet.

Ennis lit a fragrant incense to ease the mind and opened the curtain. The night view of the city immediately came into view.

Athena sat there, flipping through page after page of files related to Larry.

It was in his nineteenth year that Larry initially fell ill, despite skipping to a top university where he acquired his doctorate at the youngest age.

Athena concluded that it was no surprise that Larry had always served as Alivia's pride, which may have consequently prompted her unscrupulous methods of preserving his bloodline.

Initially, when he first took ill, it was deemed as stress by Alivia without much attention paid to him.

However, given her excessive expectations of Larry as her successor, it only heightened the pressure on him.

The turning point came when Larry was 24 years old.

Larry had already initiated collaboration with Alivia to address several Crawford Group affairs by this time.

It was during this same period that he became acquainted with Xaviera Yosef, someone he had supported for a significant amount of time.

According to both Larry and the psychiatrist, Larry's fondness for Xaviera was not a coincidence.

During his youth, Larry attended a charitable event organized by his family's elders. Xaviera happened to be present as a representative of the disadvantaged individuals they were seeking to assist. Larry almost fell in love at first sight with Xaviera, feeling embarrassed and at a loss in the crowd.

During his youth, Larry's mother kept a close eye on him. He was familiar with her ways and made sure to keep his crush a secret.

In that case, he continued to live an ordinary life and even supported his first love with her education.

When they reunited, she had transformed into a stunning and alluring individual, captivating Larry's attention.

In Larry's words to the psychiatrist, he was on the verge of going crazy at that time, and his heart was full of paranoia.

This time, he didn't give in.

The two soon fell in love.
