Chapter 2028 Martin's Assault

Logan froze for a moment.

Then, he instinctively looked at Evie.

Meeting Evie's teary gaze, he turned back to Athena in shock. "How could this happen to Byron?" Logan stood up, almost trembling.

"Keep it down," Evie cautioned, tugging at him.

Logan felt a shiver down his spine.

There was a well-known madwoman in their village when he was a child. His grandfather used to say that human traffickers had kidnapped her daughter while she was doing business at the market, and when they found her, the child had frozen to death in a dried-up well.

After that, the woman had gone insane.

Logan remembered a cultured elder in the village saying that the woman had suffered such a shock that she developed schizophrenia.

Logan couldn't fathom connecting Byron with the wandering madwoman from the village.

How could it be possible?

No, Byron had made Athena suffer so much. How could he develop such an illness?

Logan rubbed his face. "It's starting to get daylight. Aiden and Mia should be waking up soon. With no one home, they'll be scared. I'm heading back. I should get back."

Logan hurried toward the elevator.

Evie wanted to call him back.

Athena pressed her hand. "It's okay. Let him go and rest for a while."

Evie looked at Athena, her heart filled with pity.

Athena said, "Later, you and Aron can go back. Help me take Aiden and Mia to school. You can go and take them. They'll be so happy."

"Let Aron go back. I want to stay with you," Evie's voice trembled.

"Once the effect of the medicine wears off, Byron should wake up. There are many things I need to discuss with him. It might be better if you're not around." Athena's thumb gently massaged Evie's hand. "Don' worry. I won't keep anything from you."

"But what if he wakes up and attacks you again?" Evie had been avoiding looking at Athena's neck the whole time.

"Mike and Dorian are here. It'll be okay."

Evie angry and couldn't resist Athena in the end.

Once Aron arranged for underlings to return, with Athena's urging, he left with Evie.

In no time, Mike arrived with medicine, hurrying towards Athena.

"Ms. Chelsea, drink this. It'll soothe your throat. Later, apply this ointment on your neck. It's good for promoting blood circulation and reducing stasis," Mike said as he handed the items to Athena. Athena took them, sipped the throat-soothing medicine, and felt relief as the cool liquid eased her burning throat.

She looked up at Mike. "What are you doing here today?"

Technically, Mike should be on vacation.

Mike explained, "How could I relax and rest after watching that video? I've been secretly watching Mr. Crawford's every move. As soon as he left Lakin, I followed him. After all, the incident from earlier happened when he inexplicably left on his own."

Athena didn't say anything, taking a few more sips of the medicine.

After a pause, Mike continued, "Mr. Crawford went to the Lauries Mansion this time."

Athena's hand tensed.

Mike furrowed his brow. "I waited outside for a while, maybe ten minutes. Mr. Crawford came out with a sullen face. Even though it was dark, I noticed his hands were covered in blood." Athena trembled. "He had no injuries."

Mike looked at Athena and said, hesitating, "It was Martin."

"Martin?" Athena's face turned pale. "What happened to him?"

Mike continued, "He was stabbed. When I got in there, he was still conscious, and he roughly told me what had happened."
