Chapter 2064 The Reason

To Athena, hearing those words was no different from being tortured.

Logan was crouching by the exit. When he saw Athena coming out, he immediately stood up and called out, somewhat apprehensively, "Athena..." Athena looked at him and sighed softly. "I don't blame you."

Logan then looked at Ennis with red eyes, and asked, "Professor, you can cure Byron, right? The injection you gave before really worked!"

"I will do my best." Ennis said sincerely.

Logan shut his mouth and fell silent once more.

"I need to go to Mr. Freed's office for some paperwork. You can wander around." Athena could sense that Logan was under a lot of pressure.

Even though she didn't know where Logan's pressure was coming from.

"Okay." Logan nodded lightly and then walked out, glancing back three times as he did.

Athena did go to Ennis' office.

But she wasn't going to handle paperwork. All the paperwork and formalities had been taken care of long ago.

In Ennis' office, there were surveillance recordings from Byron's hospital room.

As he entered, Rebecca was staring at the screen with a grim expression.

Ennis' expression changed. "Who let you in?"

Rebecca glanced at Ennis, and then turned to Athena saying, "After she left, Byron started becoming very irritable."

"Get out," Ennis snapped as he closed the screen, and then, quite unusually, he stared at Rebecca with a cold, hard gaze.

Rebecca's expression darkened for a moment, but without saying a word, she left the office immediately.

Ennis looked at Athena and said, "I apologize. I will modify all permissions related to Mr. Crawford in the future, ensuring that within the entire research institute, only I can access them."

"Do you remember the promise you made to me? Absolutely no involvement of Rebecca in Byron's treatment. My decision is that she should have no part in any aspect of it," Athena reminded Ennis as she looked at him, being very clear in her words.

Ennis furrowed his brows tightly. "I'll be careful in the future."

Athena averted her gaze, reopening the screen. As she looked at the screen, she said indifferently, "You don't need to be careful. I will handle Rebecca."

Rebecca, the daughter of Xaviera.

Indirectly, if Xaviera hadn't died at the hands of Larry back then, her subsequent life might not have been so tragic.

While it was true that, after her mother's death and with Alivia's help, she had been living a relatively comfortable life abroad, Athena was well aware of the unpredictability of human nature.

Her biological father, who had suffered hardships and become a better man, had poured his heart and soul into raising her.

Yet, in the end, didn't he develop murderous intentions towards her?

Regardless of whether Rebecca harbored hostility towards Byron or not, Athena simply wanted peace of mind. No matter what, she wouldn't allow Rebecca to stay at the research institute before Byron was discharged, and she wouldn't even let her stay in Moniai.

Ennis moved his lips slightly.

In the end, he simply replied with an okay.

Athena said nothing.

Her eyes were glued to the screen.

Athena's figure disappeared completely from Byron's sight in that moment.

His world began to crumble.

Everything in the room began to distort.

A foul-smelling liquid began seeping out onto the floor, and another Byron appeared before him once more. "You're truly worthless. Look at where you are. It's worse than a prison cell. You knew that Athena was going to abandon you, so why did you agree to stay?"
