Chapter 2069 I Won't Go

At four a.m.

Athena was finally feeling sleepy.

Instead of driving home, she reclined in her seat, pulling the down jacket from the backseat over her. Soon, she was deep in sleep.

For several years, she had traveled extensively.

She had mastered the art of sleeping soundly on planes and cars.

As she woke up,

It was broad daylight.

The first thing she did upon awakening was to check her phone for updates on Byron's surveillance.

The surveillance app had another feature.

It allowed her to see Byron's health data for the day, his meal intake, and medication details.

The next day, at Ennis' urging, Byron managed to eat some liquid foods, but he remained agitated.

For the first time, he requested to see her.

Ennis gently declined, causing Byron to fly into a rage.

But shortly after, seeing the mess around him, Byron seemed to come back to his senses. He apologized to Ennis, pleading with him to let him see Athena. He claimed he knew Athena hadn't left Moniai yet and begged to see her, even if just for five minutes.

Yet again, Ennis gently declined.

He tried to engage Byron in a conversation about his hallucinations.

After being turned down twice, Byron withdrew into himself.

He stopped talking to everyone.

Athena was unwilling to shutting off the app.

She was about to get out of the car and stretch when she heard arguing voices.

"Ennis, I've been working under you, and I don't want to transfer to Mailand!"

"Rebecca, I've told you, this is a great opportunity for you. Your college major was marketing. It's a waste for you to be in the lab with me. Ms. Stella has arranged an excellent place for you. Ivy League graduates are dying to get in..."

"I said I won't go!" Rebecca grabbed Ennis' arm, forcing him to stop.

That was when he noticed Ennis' gaze directed forward.

Rebecca frowned, following his line of sight.

She saw Athena.

Rebecca's anger flared up instantly.

She shook off Ennis' hand, about to lunge at Athena.

Ennis couldn't hold her back.

He quickly followed.

Before Rebecca could get close to Athena,

From a car diagonally across, Dorian and Mike jumped out, pointing at Rebecca, and shouted, "Watch out! Step back!"

Being in the car had cramped Athena up.

After running around Enigma City all day, her muscles felt stiff, like rusty joints.

She moved a bit, then waved at Dorian. "It's okay."

Rebecca, still fuming but hesitating to approach Athena, nearly spit fire from her eyes. "Why are you not letting me stay in the lab?"

"Ms. Panter, we're both smart. We both know the score," Athena responded calmly.

"I would never harm Byron. Madam Crawford raised me and cherished me. I..." Rebecca spoke urgently.

Athena stood there, a beautiful, serene statue, watching the angry Rebecca.

"Rebecca, listen!" Ennis gripped Rebecca's arm. "After Byron's treatment, if you want to come back, you can."

"No wonder Byron suddenly got sick after all these years!" Rebecca pointedly said, staring at Athena, "It's all because of you, Athena. You're too dominant!"

Ennis looked horrified.

Mike's anger was faster than his thoughts.

Before he could react, he fiercely stood in front of Athena. "Mr. Freed, is this the dog you keep? Why's she barking here?"

"Rebecca!" Ennis was visibly angered, rebuking her sternly.
