Chapter 379 Heart of Compassion

"If you don't want to stay, you can just leave!" Byron gasped, his eyes red with anger. "You don't need to rush, pushing me away to irrelevant people."

"Mr. Crawford, as we all know, Ms. Bates is your true love..."

Before she could finish her words...

Byron, consumed by anger, coughed up blood.

The bright red, viscous liquid quickly stained the white sheet of the bed.

"Byron!"

Athena exclaimed, rushing forward to support him with one hand while urgently ringing the bell with the other.

"What are you worried about?" Byron looked at her, his face abnormally flushed. "You hate me so much that it would be just right if I died, wouldn't it?" "Even if it were a homeless person vomiting blood in front of me, I would be worried."

Athena responded, feeling an inexplicable guilt.

She turned around to look for doctors and nurses.

The bell was rung again.

"What's the matter?" The nurse at the station finally responded.

"The patient is vomiting blood," Athena replied.

After a while, Byron was taken away on a stretcher.

Athena hurriedly ran around with a stack of paperwork.

After all the examinations were completed, Byron was finally settled in the ward.

Athena asked the doctor about his situation.

And she ordered a takeaway for Byron, something he could eat.

"The report is out. You have a minor concussion in your head, but the more serious issue is your stomach," Athena said, looking at the report. Back then, when she beside him...

She would receive the reports from his physical examinations every six months.

She knew his stomach wasn't in the best condition.

But it wasn't as severe as it was now.

Stomach bleeding...

"Stomach bleeding." Athena handed over the report.

Byron glanced at it and wearily closed his eyes instead of taking it.

Athena was speechless.

She placed the report back on the bedside table.

"If you have something to do, go ahead," Byron started.

His voice was devoid of emotions.

Athena had been waiting for this moment.

"I indeed have a meeting to attend," Athena said, grabbing her bag. "Mr. Crawford, your assistants, and secretaries work for you. You should call them over." Byron lay down and turned his head away.

His body was filled with resistance.

Athena thought to herself, "Did you think it was five years ago? Did you want me to coax you?"

Whatever!

She then realized that if she didn't care for him, he would starve and suffer once the drip was finished.

He reaped what he sowed.

With these thoughts in mind, Athena picked up her bag and strode out of the room.

As he listened to the fading sound of her footsteps, Byron furrowed his brows.

It felt as if his heart had been stabbed by knives.

She left.

She really left.

In the past, when he was sick, she never left his side. She would take care of him and coax him to take his medicine and eat. Byron reminisced about those moments.

His heart ached so much that he found it difficult to breathe.

Lost in this torment, he didn't know how much time had passed.

The creaking sound of the door opening caught his attention.

The footsteps of several people were heard.

"Is he asleep?" the attending physician asked.

"Probably," the nurse replied.

"I'll come back later," the attending physician responded.

The noise of their footsteps then faded away.

After a while...

Byron sighed and reached for his phone, intending to call someone to transfer him to another hospital.

But then...

The sound of high heels echoed in the room.

Byron was slightly taken aback.

After a moment, a phone was handed to him by a beautiful hand.

He raised his eyes and saw Athena's expressionless face.

"You're not..." he began.

"Eat this," Athena interrupted, handing him the packaged food.

Byron glanced at it. "I'm not hungry."

"You can either eat it, or I'll open the lid and pour it over your head. Your choice," Athena said sternly.

She scolded herself for still feeling compassion for Byron.
