Chapter 571 It Was a Truly Shameful Act!

"Didn't I tell you not to come back? Aren't you exhausted from all this running around?" Athena scolded with concern.

Evie glanced into the hospital room and asked, "Is Byron okay?"

"How could he be okay?" Athena sighed and added, "Even though Lola is terrible now, she genuinely cared for him when he was a child."

"What's the use of having a mother like her?" Evie said, taking out her phone. "Do you know about these things?"

Athena took the phone from Evie, and Athena's expression instantly darkened after seeing the phone screen.

About half an hour ago, someone posted on an anonymous forum titled: [Exposing the Little-Known Scandals of LC.]

The post listed numerous entries, including trivial matters. But the most attention-grabbing was Lola's actions in her attempt to compete with her son for the ownership of Crawford Group.

One of the lines read: [It's widely known that more than a decade ago, when Byron had just taken over the Crawford Group from his grandmother, he had a car accident. During the rescue, his heart stopped several times, and he only survived by relying on millions of dollars' worth of medical equipment to force him back to life. Lola was behind this, trying to prevent her son from taking over the Crawford Group. PS, Byron later found out the truth and moved out of the family home, gradually distancing himself from his parents, but he didn't hold his mother accountable, very touching.]

Another line mentioned: [Furthermore, there was one more significant occurrence. Following the plane crash involving Miss Newton, Byron was deeply affected, leading to him being hospitalized due to coughing up blood. During this vulnerable time, Lola joined forces with the associates of the Crawford Group, who happened to be the Crawford family member's dependent on Byron's financial support, all to sideline Byron. Is it something a biological mother would do?]

Another line revealed: [The latest gossip is about Byron's grandmother, Alivia. She was widely renowned for her expertise in jewelry and antiquities. Most people didn't know Alivia shared an incredibly close bond with the late Miss Newton, going so far as to consider her a cherished granddaughter-in-law. As fate would have it, Alivia later succumbed to dementia and probably didn't know about Miss Newton's passing. Consequently, in her last will, she generously bestowed her entire collection of jewelry and antiques upon Miss Newton. When Lola discovered this, she and a few Crawford family members went and made a scene at the funeral parlor. It was a truly shameful act!]

Athena skimmed through the post.

It was apparent that the mentioned events were genuine.

Evidently, the person behind the post knew Byron and Lola's relationship very well.

As of now, it appeared to be someone from Byron's side.

After all, the original poster had been consistently belittling Lola.

"I pretty much knew," Athena said in response to Evie.

"Is it true that Lola was behind the car accident that nearly killed Byron?" Evie was in complete disbelief.

She thought the pursuit of power was something quite common.

Athena then mused. "Well, in wealthy families, hasn't this been the norm for ages?

But... going so far as to want to murder her son in the quest for power, that's just sickening."

"Yeah, it's true," Athena replied and nodded. "I accidentally learned about this when I was with Byron. He was furious that day, and it seemed one of his people had secretly kept the evidence of Lola's involvement in the accident."

"What do you mean?" Evie was surprised. "Are you saying that after knowing about this, Byron didn't hold her responsible and destroyed the evidence?"

"That's right," Athena confirmed.

She thought, "Byron must have been torn back then, but she's his mother, so what other choice did he have? Besides, Byron knew of the heart-wrenching secret about his true identity. Byron knew it would be too much for Lola to handle."

"It's absurd how easily he forgives Lola for what she did to him, yet he went all out on you!" Evie was seething, crossing her arms in anger.

"Does your husband know you came back?" Athena asked.

"I didn't tell him..." Evie replied, feeling guilty as she had driven back herself, speeding the entire way.
