My Mommy Became A Billionaire After the Breakup -
Chapter 575
Chapter 575 You Are Lying!
Since Athena had recovered well, she requested to be discharged after Byron left.
When she returned home, she received the vehicle inspection report that Byron had sent.
"If the person handling the case is sufficiently efficient, they may replace it difficult to uncover the true cause of Lola's death, leading to the possibility of closing the case as an accident without fully investigating the matter," Rose remarked, removing her reading glasses.
Athena had the same thought.
The person she suspected had lived among overseas nobles for many years and must have seen all sorts of dirty tricks.
Through whispers and observing others, Athena, too, had learned a few questionable techniques herself.
Athena lacked some crucial clues. Otherwise, she would have gone directly to Byron and expressed her suspicion that the person might be... "Mommy!"
As they were talking, Mia suddenly came running over.
Upon seeing her approach, the two adults exchanged glances and effortlessly transitioned into their usual playful demeanor.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?" Athena asked, then reached out her hand, wanting to pick Mia up.
Mia immediately dodged Athena's hand as Aiden had told her in the morning that Athena had hurt her knee and shouldn't let Athena carry her.
Mia's little face turned red in distress. "Mommy! Mia saw Byron on TV! The news anchor lady said Byron's mom drowned! Sob, sob, what should we do, Mommy? Byron's mom drowned!" Athena frowned and quickly walked toward the living room.
She saw that the television in the living room had been turned off. Logan stood there, looking like he had done something wrong, and said, "Athena, I was just watching the news. Who could have known that the international news channel would broadcast such news..."
Logan then nervously wondered, "Why am I so unlucky?"
Mia rushed out after them.
Logan rushed over, picked up the crying Mia, and comforted her. "Sweetheart, Byron's mom, was a bad person who treated Byron poorly. So there's nothing to be sad about. No more crying, alright? How about Logan take you to get some ice cream?"
"Logan!"
Athena was exasperated.
"What's wrong now?" Logan asked, looking puzzled.
Athena found herself speechless and unable to reply.
She was at a loss because Logan hadn't lied, but he shouldn't have said such things to little Mia.
"Logan is lying!" Mia exclaimed.
Athena didn't get a chance to explain as Mia burst into tears, pushed Logan's face away, and resisted Logan's attempts to hug her.
"Mia, Logan wasn't lying. You can ask Mommy if you don't believe me!" Logan insisted.
"You're lying! It's all lies! There's no mommy in this world who doesn't love their baby. You're lying, Logan!" Mia cried, feeling even more heartbroken. Athena went over, picked up Mia, and gestured for Logan to leave quickly.
Logan looked dejected, then reluctantly went upstairs while glancing back at each step he took.
Athena comforted Mia for a while, and Mia finally stopped crying.
Athena wiped away her tears, and Mia choked and said she wanted to call Byron.
Athena checked the time and realized that Byron was probably busy. She then suggested, "How about later? Byron is probably busy right now."
Mia nodded through her sobs and hugged Athena's neck, weeping.
To her, nothing in the world could have been more devastating than losing her mother.
Thoughts then rushed through Mia's mind. "If I had lost Mommy, I wouldn't have been able to go on! Mommy meant more to me than anything else in the world, even more than the air I breathed." Athena knew Byron would have time in the evening, so she let Mia make the call.
When the call connected, Mia sweetly said, "Good evening, Byron. Have you had dinner?"
Byron immediately chuckled on the other end, replying, "Good evening, Mia. Yes, I've had dinner. How about you?"
After a somewhat formal exchange of greetings, the father and daughter started chatting on the phone.
