Naughty Ceo’s Secret -
Chapter 119
"Are you going to tell me who this mystery person is?" I asked.
I was discharged from the hospital hours ago. Kenzo drove me home where I showered, and put on some comfy clothes. We set up an ultrasound at the hospital for next week. Apparently, they had given me one while I was out, just to be sure. Kenzo got to see our little bun before me and I am unreasonably upset about it. At least I have pictures. Turns out, I am five weeks along. That means that it was most likely one of the first times Kenzo and I had se.x. Figures. We were meant to be after all.
Still, Kenzo let me relax for just a few hours before he started to rush me out of the door. He drove across the city while staying silent. I've been begging him to tell me who we are meeting, but he has refused.
Kenzo pulled into a parking lot of a small diner. I turned to him with a raised brow.
"Hungry?" I asked.
Kenzo shook his head.
"This is where we are meeting him," he said.
"Who's him?" I asked.
Kenzo turned his body to me. He grabbed my hands, and looked deep into my eyes. It must be really serious. Then he took a deep breath.
"Opal, there is something else that I've been keeping from you." HE told me.
"Okay..." I said, skeptically.
"The day you were kidnapped, I left the apartment, but not for work." he said.
I frowned.
"But you said-"
"I know baby, I'm really sorry, but I lied." He said.
"You.. lied to me? Why?" I asked, hurt.
Kenzo moved one of his hands to cup my cheek.
"I was trying to protect you baby." He said. "I came here, to meet someone."
"Who?" I asked.
Better not be another woman.
"Mack McGrath." Kenzo said.
Uh, who?
"He's.. He is Gregory McFairly's father. Gregory had his last name changed when he wanted to be famous." Kenzo told me.
I blinked at him.
"You.. I.." I swallowed before trying again. "I have a grandfather?" I asked.
Kenzo nodded.
"Wh-why didn't you just let me come with you?" I asked as tears filled my eyes.
"It wasn't to hurt you kitten, I promise you that," Kenzo said. "Do you know anything about the McGrath family Opal? Have you ever heard that name?" He asked.
I shook my head.
"I don't think so," I said.
"There is a reason why your father had to change his last name, Opal," Kenzo said.
"What reason?" I asked.
Kenzo took another deep breath. He looks like he really doesn't want to tell me. Or to be here at all.
"The McGrath family is the head family of the Irish Mafia," he stated.
I blinked at him as the information registered in my brain.
"Your grandfather.. is the head right now." He said gently.
That's.. that's why he told me I could piece things together after I met this person. Was Kenzo trying to tell me that he didn't go after Haru because he knew my supposed grandfather would. I mean, the head of the mafia.. That's what they do, right? "W-why didn't you tell me sooner? I have family. Why did you keep that from me?" I asked as tears started to fall.
Kenzo grabbed my face with both hands and began wiping my tears.
"Baby, I'm so sorry. I was going to tell you, I swear. I just.. I needed to make sure that he was safe for you to be around. I've met Mack before, he's dangerous. I didn't want you getting mixed up in things. I needed to be sure that he would just be your grandfather and nothing more. Mack more than proved that when he helped me rescue you," he said.
I pushed Kenzo away from me, and turned around to open my door. I got out before Kenzo could stop me, and marched my way to the diner. Kenzo was quick to grab my hand. I shook out of his grip though.
"Don't you even touch me right now, Kenzo. I'm furious with you!" I seethed lowly. "I can't believe you kept this from me. My grandfather. My family." I grumbled.
"I'm so sorry kitten. You have to understand why I did it," Kenzo said.
We just reached the front door. I turned to Kenzo and narrowed my eyes at him.
"Oh, I do understand, and I appreciate you always protecting me. However, I'm still furious, so you'll just have to deal with that," I said.
Then I turned back to the door.
"Take my hand, I need support." I demanded as I held my hand out.
Kenzo grabbed it, and opened the door for me. I walked in and looked around. This place is kind of shabby for a place where mafia men hang out.
Kenzo pulled me down to a large round table. An older man is sitting at the end with a few men on either side of him. When he looked up, his eyes connected with mine. "Mack." Kenzo said. "This is Opal, your granddaughter."
"Hi.." I said softly.
Mack stood up and walked over to me. He grabbed my face, inspecting me. I just smiled at him. Tears filled his eyes, making me want to cry as well.
"Look at you. You look like your father. Trade mark, red hair and all," he said.
Here I thought I looked like my mother.
"Do you think I could sit down and talk for a while? I'd really like to know more about my father if that's alright with you," I said.
Mack waved his hand in the air. All of the men stood and dispersed throughout the place. Kenzo pulled out a chair for me and sat down. Then Mack took his seat. "Where do I begin?"
**********
"Alright, alright, this picture was him at his very first gig." Mack said, handing me a picture.
We've been sitting together talking for hours now. Thankfully, this is a diner, so I was able to eat throughout this as well. Mack had one of his men go to his house and get a box of photos he had of my dad. Not even just my dad either.
Mack has pictures of all of our family. My dad, my grandmother, my apparent uncles and one aunt. He's been showing me all of them while telling me about my dad.
"Greg was my bravest son. If he would have had different dreams, then he would have taken over as head eventually." Mack told me.
I looked from the picture of my dad up at Mack.
"You let him follow his dreams instead though?" I asked.
Mack nodded.
"Family is everything. I wanted to see all of my kids follow their dreams," he said.
Wow. I wonder how different my life would have turned out if Mack had known about me. If I had been raised by him instead of Jane and James. I can't say I regret anything. The life I had taught me a lot. I like who I turned out to be, and where I ended up. Plus, who knows if I would have ever known Jed.
"I wish that I had known about you sooner," Mack told me. "With the way that Kenzo acts over you makes me believe you didn't have the best upbringing." Mack said, giving Kenzo a look.
I giggled as I rubbed Kenzo's knee under the table.
"My upbringing wasn't that bad. Kenzo is just protective by nature. I'm thankful for it." I said.
"Don't lie Opal. Your upbringing could have been better," Kenzo said.
"It could have been worse," I replied.
Kenzo sighed.
"I guess." He said.
I rolled my eyes before looking at Mack.
"They were just.. not supportive or loving. I had everything I ever needed though. I wasn't abused or anything like that." I said.
"Not physically anyway." Kenzo muttered.
I gave him a pointed look.
"Maybe you should give us some space," I said.
Kenzo's black eyes snapped at me.
"No." He stated.
I pouted at him.
"Fine. I'll go to the bathroom. But I will be right back." He said more to Mack than me.
I shook my head as I watched Kenzo go.
"He's a good one. I'm glad you two met." Mack told me.
I smiled.
"Me too." I said. "So, did Kenzo tell you the news?" I asked.
"About your wedding? Yes," Mack said.
I shook my head as I laughed.
"Well, yes, there's that. But I meant about my pregnancy." I told him.
Mack's eyes snapped at me. He looked down at my belly, then back to my eyes. Tears filled his eyes. Haven't the two of us cried enough today?
"Y-you are?" He asked.
I nodded as I rubbed my belly.
"I have an ultrasound next week. Would you like to come?" I asked.
Mack stared at me stunned for a moment.
"You want me there?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Of course I do. I just found out that I have a grandfather. A whole family that I didn't know about. I want you all in my life as much as possible now." I said.
Mack wiped the corners of his eyes.
"Yes. I'd love to come," he said.
"Come where?" Kenzo asked as he sat back down.
Gee, he sure gave us a lot of space.
"Mack is going to come to the ultrasound with us next week." I told him.
Kenzo shook his head and opened his mouth. He cut himself off before he even started after he saw my face. Again, I'm still angry that he got to be at the first ultrasound without me really. "Alright kitten, whatever you want." Kenzo said.
I gave him a nod. Yea, that's what I thought. I'm getting my way one way or another.
Suddenly, the bell for the front door rang out. It hasn't made a noise since we got here. I had thought that Mack was making sure we were alone, but I guess not.
"Dad! You've been here for hours! We've been calling you! Why aren't you picking up your phone?"
I turned around at the sound of a female's voice. Two young boys ran up to Mack, hugging him tightly. The woman and I stared at each other.
She looks a lot like my father. Short red hair like mine, bright green eyes too. She has a curvey, motherly figure, and is looking at me strangely.
"Sorry, have we met before? You look so familiar," she asked me.
I stood up and I shook my head. Mack was quick to join my side. I held my hand out to the woman and was just about to introduce myself, but Mack beat me to it. "Opal, this is Ella, my daughter." He said.
My aunt..
"Ella," Mack said. "This is Opal. She is Gregory's daughter."
Ella's arm fell as her jaw went slack.
"You.. You're.." She trailed off trying to search for words.
"Uhm," I said awkwardly. "I guess you're my aunt."
