Kenzo's P.O.V.

**************************

This is a complete fu.cking mess. All of this. My grandfather, the board listening to him, having to push Opal away, and every single fu.cking thing that happened today.

While we were on our trip upstate, my grandfather called me several times. Haru Suzuki is a despicable man who only cares about money, and what other people think of him. He's always been the same, even when I was just a boy. I had no intentions of speaking with him.

I only answered my phone at the tattoo shop that day because I could tell Opal was getting irritated with it constantly going off. Looking back at it, I should have just turned my phone off, and never answered that call.

"What?" I asked answering the phone.

*****

"Is that any way to greet your grandfather? The man who helped you to get where you are today?" Haru asked with equal annoyance.

I clenched my jaw. He's got to be kidding. Helped get me where I am today? The man forced this life on me.

"What do you want Haru? I'm busy." I said.

"Hmm, yes I've heard. You made a deal with that makeup buisness after I told you not to." He said.

"You are no longer the CEO. I make the decisions now." I said

Just like I always planned.

"Don't get co.cky with me boy. I gave you everything you have today!" Haru said in frustration. "Now, listen to me..."

I drown out my grandfather as I looked back into the shop. The man on the other line has caused so many problems in my life. Just like with Jay and Akane.

I never had a problem with the two of them dating. In fact, I was happy that my sister had fallen in love with someone who I knew would treat her good. If things at home were different, I would have rooted for them. Unfortunately, they were not.

Our parents died in a car accident when I was only nine. Akane was seven. The only family member willing to take us, was our grandfather that neither of us had ever met.

It took me only a year to figure out why we never met our fathers father. Haru had disowned his son when he was only a young adult. I guess that my dad wanted to be a chef. He wanted to open his own restaurant, and live how he wanted.

That upset Haru greatly. Haru always thought his son would follow in his footsteps, and take over Suzuki Industries. Dad faught him tooth and nail.

Apparently, Haru had tried to win his son back once he realized that Dad had married. Mom was pregnant with me. I think that Haru saw his way to keep a Suzuki at the head of the company.

I'm not too sure what had happened then. Mom and Dad never talked about Haru. Haru only muttered things here and there. Mostly about me being like my wh.ore mother, or my deadbeat father.

When I started to reach adolescence, I started to fight back on the things that Haru wanted from me. That was when I learned how cruel my grandfather could be. I wondered how my father was ever able to stand living so much of his life like that.

After a particularly terrible beating, that resulted in a broken arm for me, I realized that I was never going to win. The doctors didn't even question how that had happened to me, the other adults didn't care. So I became compliant. I did as I was told.

I had full intentions of getting out from under my grandfathers thumb though. Beck was the only other one that knew about things at home. I had even managed to keep it from Akane somehow. I was going to save up from doing odd jobs, so that Akane and I could run away.

Then my grandfather found my stash of money. He beat me until I finally told him my plan. I thought that he would break another one of my bones, but no. Haru had figured out another weak spot of mine to exploit.

Akane.

So, I gave up on everything. There would be no future for me. Not one that I wanted. Not one that would make me happy. So, I went with everything Haru said.

That's why I had an issue with Jay. I knew that Haru would be furious if he found out. I was so terrified that he would hurt Akane or Jay. I tried to keep them apart, but Akane wouldn't stop seeing Jay.

It left me with no choice. The truth that I had been trying to hard to hide from my sister.. I had to tell her everything.

"Are you even listening to me Kenzo?" Haru asked irriated, pulling me from his thoughts.

Opal laughed, and suddenly all of my dark memories brightened.

"Ya know what Haru? No, I wasn't. And I'm busy right now. Stop bothering me."

I hung up the phone, before walking back into the shop.

*******

After Opal passed out on Beck and I, we went out on the balcony to relax. We joked around about what the three of us had just done. It was late. I should have left my phone on silent, never picked it up, and just enjoyed my time with Opal. Instead, I answered yet another call from Haru Suzuki that night.

"What now old man?" I answered.

********

"You can't ignore me forever boy." Haru seethed.

I rolled my eyes.

"Aren't you getting a bit old for these games Haru?" I asked.

Haru chuckled.

"Kenzo, I tried to warn you earlier. After this little.. vacation of yours is over, you are to come to my house." He ordered.

"What for?" I asked.

"I have marital matches lined up for you. We can go over the ones you like the best, and then I can arrange for you to meet them." He said.

I frowned.

"Marital Matches?" I asked confused.

Haru chuckled again.

"For you to marry obviously!" He said happily.

My blood boiled.

"I am not marrying some random woman you pic-"

"You aren't going to tell me no to this Kenzo." Haru interrupted me.

"I can do whatever I want." I said.

"The board of directors want to see you married. You're getting too old for the bachelors lifestyle you enjoy so much. They want to see Kenzo the family man now." He told me.

"Then I'll talk to them myself." I said.

"No can do." Haru replied. "This is what they want."

"Then I'll be choosing my own wife." I gritted out.

"Don't tell me you mean that secretary you've been sleeping with." Haru said amused.

My eyes went wide as my blood froze. How does he even know about Opal? Is someone working for me feeding Haru information about me?

"Now, I let you have your fun. I let you go to that se.x place of yours. It's time you listen to me. That woman isn't suited for you Kenzo. She's nothing more than a gold digger. Come home, let me hel-"

I hung up. I couldn't take it anymore. I'm starting to panic. What if he tries to hurt Opal?

I wouldn't put it passed Haru. He's a cruel man. All he wants is control. Over me, over the company still. And he doesn't care what he has to do to get it.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Beck asked me.

"He wants me to get married." I said.

"What?" Beck replied stunned.

"And he knows about Opal." I gritted out.

"Sh.it. What are we going to do?" Beck asked.

My best friend has grown very close to Opal. Beck will help me protect her. Unfortunately, he is the only one I can trust right now.

"Things are going to get rough." I said with a sigh.

My phone dinged, and I opend the text message.

Haru: You can't ignore me forever boy. You will do as I say. You'll see things my way soon.

*******

Now here I am, laying in bed next Opal. She passed out almost immediately after I got her in her bed. I didn't even get to dress her before she fell asleep.

I ran my hands through her drying hair as I stared at her. I could tell by the way she acted after she slapped that guy that something was off. With the way he acted after.. It wasn't hard to figure out that he had hit her in the past.

I've never been so angry in my entire life. If Opal hadn't been here, begging me to take her away, I would have killed that fu.cker then and there. After what she admitted to me in the tub.. I wish I would have killed him. That bas.tard put Opal through so much. She didn't deserve any of it. How could anyone hurt such a sweet and gentle creature?

I don't know how people can be so cruel, how this world can be so cruel. I've lived along side cruelty my whole life. As much as I try to be a decent person, sometimes I can't help but be cruel too. Afterall, I learned a few things from Haru.

I kissed the top of Opal's head, and slid off of her bed. I stepped out of her bedroom, and closed the door behind me. Jed hasn't come back, and at this point I don't think he will.

I pulled out my phone as I entered the living room. I pushed a few buttons until I found the contact I was looking for. Then I put the phone up to my ear.

"Yo." Jack answered.

"Jack, I need you to do me a favor." I said.

"What you need?" He asked.

I looked out the window at the dark night sky.

"I want all the information you can get on Opal's ex boyfriend. I only know his first name. It's Brad." I said.

"That narrows it down." Jack snorted.

I sighed.

"I know, but I need everything." I said.

"You sound.. different. This guy that bad?" Jack asked.

My jaw tightened.

"He hurt what's mine, and now he's going to pay." I gritted out.

Jack chuckled.

"What ya gonna do to him?" He asked.

I looked back down the hall, where Opal is sleeping soundly. My perfect kitten. The sweetest person I know. The person I need to protect the most. "I'm going to ruin his fu.cking life."
