Naughty Ceo’s Secret -
Chapter 93
"Bout time you guys showed up," Marc said as Kendra and I made our way to the table.
Marc is sitting at a high top table long enough to fit 15 people. Nikki is on one side of him, with Sasha on the other side of her. Kendra sat down across from Sasha, and they immediately started talking.
Kendra and I were also late. Like an hour late. She insisted on changing my clothes and doing my makeup. I let Kendra put me in a nice yellow sundress with white daisies all over it. It's kind of short for my liking, but Kendra insisted. Thankfully, I was able to deter her from my makeup and hair. Leaving both natural, just the way my fake fiance likes.
"Where is everyone else?" I asked.
"Jed is working late. He's got a few clients now," Marc said.
I gave him a bored look as I sat down next to Kendra.
"That's not what I meant. I was talking about the others," I said.
"Others?" Kendra asked.
Did I not tell them I invited more people? Why do they have a table this big then?
"Did I not tell you guys I invited some people from work?" I asked.
Marc and Kendra gave me confused looks. Before either could press me for information, a familiar voice sounded from behind me.
"Sorry I'm late," Eric said as he rushed to our table. "Work." He said with a smile.
"That's totally okay." I said with a smile.
Eric took off his suit jacket as he looked around at everyone.
"Hi, I'm Eric. Opal's work husband." He introduced himself.
I choked on my water that I had just brought to my lips. Did he say work husband? We had never said anything like that before. Didn't our boss just tell him that we were engaged? "Uhh.." I said as Eric sat down next to me.
Everyone just looked at Eric like he'd grown two heads. Nikki was the first to react. She snorted as she looked Eric up and down.
"I thought Opal was with Kenzo?" She asked outright.
Oh god.
"I am." I said.
"It's just a joke between us. Right Op?" Eric asked.
My cheeks flamed.
"Uh.. I mean, it's not like we've ever joked like that before," I replied uncomfortably.
Eric opened his mouth to reply, but someone else came to our table before he could.
"Hey you lovely people. Sorry we're late. Ya know, boss stuff." Peter said as he slid into a chair next to Sasha.
Wait, we?
Before I could ask out loud, another member sat down next to Nikki. Beck looked at Eric, then at me. As if judging the space between us. Eric noticed Beck's stare. Instead of, I don't know, moving, Eric threw his arm across the back of my chair.
Okay, this is not how this was supposed to go. I only invited Eric because I felt bad that my time with him was dwindling, and I appreciated our friendship. Kenzo was dead set that Eric had a thing for me though. Something I argued with him about several times over the week. Eric acting like this is not helping. Kenzo is probably going to be here any minute too.
"Kendra." I whispered as I elbowed her.
"Ow, what?" She whispered back.
"Switch me spots." I begged.
"Why?" Kendra asked.
I chewed on my bottom lip.
"Because." Was all I said.
Kendra smirked at me.
"Eric is pretty cute. No wonder he was your work hus-"
"So, what were we talking about?" Beck asked, interrupting Kendra.
All eyes fell on me, making me squirm in my seat.
"I was just telling everyone that I'm Opal's-" Eric started, but I couldn't let him say it.
Beck will tell Kenzo, and.. Well, who knows what Kenzo will do. Eric might not have a job come Monday.
"That he's my friend from work. Just a work friend." I rushed out awkwardly.
Beck raised a brow at me. Clearly, he isn't buying it. God, I need a drink.
"How about shots?" I asked.
"Oooow yes!" Peter replied.
"I'll go get the first round," I announced.
I stood up and walked over to the bar top. I ordered shots of tequila for everyone at the table. I hope Kenzo gets here soon. I really don't want to give him the wrong impression here.
"Here you go honey. Take the tray." The bartender told me.
I thanked her before slapping some cash on the table. I tried to pick up the tray, but arms reached around me to take it. My heart fluttered, and I whipped around with a huge smile on my face. One that faltered the moment my eyes connected with blue ones and not black ones.
"I can handle carrying a tray Eric." I grumbled.
"What kind of work husband would I be if I let you carry something so heavy?" He teased.
I huffed, annoyed.
"Well, first of all, we-"
"Work husband? I didn't know Kenzo was here yet." Beck said as he walked up behind Eric.
Sh.it.
I looked up at Beck. He has an amused twinkle in his eye. I only pouted back at him, hoping he'd realize this was nothing.
"Well, Kenzo is her real fiance. I'm just a work husband," Eric said.
"Well, actually you aren'-" I tried.
"Oh, and what is a work husband?" Beck asked.
Eric picked up the tray of shots, and walked back to the table as he started talking.
"Well, we have lunch together, look out for each other, have fun together. That sort of thing," he said.
I sat down in my seat, and slumped. That is what Eric and I do, but.. I thought that's just what friends do. I've never even heard Eric use the term 'work husband'. "Sounds more like a friendship to me," Beck said.
Beck rolled up the sleeves of his nice dress shirt, and took his shot. I numbly helped pass the shots out. No one else seems to be paying the three of us attention now. Eric chuckled.
"Yeah I guess, but I would say it's a bit more than that." He said,
My eyes bulged.
"You would?" I asked.
"Really?" Beck asked, narrowing his eyes at Eric.
"Cheers!" I shouted before Eric could say anything else.
All of us clinked out small glasses together before taking our shots. Our server came by the table, and we all ordered drinks. Sasha and Kendra demanded we get some appetizers so that we aren't drinking on empty stomachs.
A few minutes later, I have a strawberry daquire, and I began to relax a bit. Eric hasn't said anything more about work husbands, but he has been scooching closer to me. I'm starting to feel a bit uncomfortable honestly. Eric knows that Kenzo and I are together. He's never acted like this before. It's getting a bit frustrating that he can't, at the very least, respect my relationship.
"Kendra," I whisper yelled. "Switch me-"
"Sooo." Beck drawled out, getting my attention. "You said 'it's a bit more than that." He said.
Oh no.
"What did you mean by that exactly, Eric?" Beck asked.
I don't think I've ever seen Beck look so serious. Almost like the insinuation behind Eric's words offended him. Which is strange since I'm with Kenzo. I know Beck and I have.. fooled around with Kenzo, but still. I. Am. Kenzo's. "Well, I would say that Opal and I.. enjoy each other's company more than anyone else's." He said.
Marc snorted.
"Yeah, cause there are so many people at your job that are nice to her," he said sarcastically.
Sasha and Nikki's heads whipped to me.
"People are mean to you?" They asked in unison.
"Well, it's not really that they're mean.." I said uncomfortably.
Peter scoffed.
"Yeah, they're just bored and have nothing better to do than talk about other people behind their backs." He said.
The two girls looked from him, to me. I shrunk back under their pity-filled eyes. This was not how I thought tonight would go.
Before I could respond, Eric threw his arm around my shoulders. He hooked his arm around my neck, and pulled me into him. I grabbed onto his wrist, instantly annoyed. Then Eric kissed my cheek. My eyes went wide with shock.
"They're all just jealous because Opal has always been the prettiest. Plus, she's insanely nice." He said, and then looked at me. "So nice, and beautiful, and considerate, and.." He trailed off as he leaned in.
I leaned back as Eric leaned in. All the way until I'm leaning into Kendra. Eric still has his arm wrapped around my neck. Beck is glaring daggers at us instead of helping me. Marc looks like this is all fu.cking hilarious to him. Same with Nikki. Sasha and Peter look as uncomfortable as I feel.
I put my palm on Eric's face, and pushed him back. Apparently with too much force, because he almost stumbled out of his chair. Not that I care right now.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I asked angrily. "You know that I have a fiance. One that is your boss, I might add!" I seethed. "Why are you acting like this? I mean, work husband? We've never used that term before. And if you were my real friend, you would respect my relationship. I can't believe this." I grumbled as I stood up. "Now I have to tell Kenzo that he was right! Thanks! I'm never going to hear the end of this." I continued to grumble as I walked around the table, and sat down next to Beck. Beck pulled my chair out for me with a huge sh.it eating grin on his face.
"Do not give me another reason to be upset tonight." I seethed lowly.
"Wouldn't dream of it, darlin'. Besides, I'm pretty sure no one had permission to touch you tonight." He whispered to me.
My face heated as his words sunk in. No one?
"B-but.. do-does that mean.. I mean.. Eric touched me." I squeaked out.
Beck chuckled as he tossed back the last of his whiskey.
"Oh, Eric did much more than just touch you sweetcheeks," he said.
He's right.. Eric kissed my cheek. He tried to kiss me on the lips. Kenzo already hates Eric... Oh no..
"He's going to be pissed if he replaces out." I said, worried.
What if he doesn't want to marry me anymore?
Okay, I'm being ridiculous. I didn't even do anything wrong. In fact, I did everything right. I yelled at Eric, and didn't let him get too close to me. Right? "When." Beck said.
"Huh?" I asked.
"You said if he replaces out. I think you meant when." He said.
"W-when?" I squeaked.
Beck smirked at me as he nodded.
"And you're going to be the one to tell him."
