Nephilim and the Nun
Chapter 16: •Leaving•

Quinn:

She stared at me as though she couldn't believe I'd just agreed to let her dive into her doom. But I did. As much as I wanted to solve the mystery that she was made of, I couldn't force her if she wouldn't let me in, and again, I had my problems to solve.

Giving me one last nod, she turned on her heels and left for the bedroom. Moments later, she strutted back into the kitchen, still dressed in my t-shirt.

"Ummm...can I borrow your...".

She asked, staring at me hesitantly. I knew what she wanted.

"You can".

She nodded, waiting for me to make the first move. Straightening my stance from the kitchen island I'd been leaning on, I walked past her to the bathroom where I got shorts from the closest and handed them to her.

"Thank you". She muttered in a small voice.

Pulling on the t-shirt I'd picked out for myself, I exited the room, waiting for her to be done. Minutes later, she walked back into the living room where I'd been waiting. Wordlessly, I stepped out of the house with her behind me. I could easily grab her hand and apparate to where she could get home safely but I wanted to replace the way out of the woods. I also wanted to know where I was and how far away from people it

was.

There had to be a trail around the cabin except for the one that leads to the waterfall. I told myself.

I walked around the cabin till my eyes landed on a tiny trail that was almost covered with grasses. Turning back to see if she was with me, I took the tiny trail, walking deeper into the forest, away from the cabin A while later, we found ourselves at the point where I'd found her and the assassins the previous night. The fresh grave was there as a reminder.

"They took you here in a car, didn't they?" I asked her, needing to know.

If they did, I needed to replace it and get rid of it to avoid being traced. The last thing I wanted was someone knowing my whereabouts apart from her. "They did".

"Where did they park it?"

"At the corner of a tarred road".

"This trail must lead there then. Come on". I urged her, continuing my walk down the trail in hopes of replaceing the road she mentioned.

We walked for a while before we came across a truck parked beside a tarred road.

"This is it". She pointed towards it.

We got to the car and I checked to see if it could be opened but the doors were locked. Breaking one of the windows, I was able to place my hand in to open it from the inside. I got in to search for any valuables and important information about the men but I found nothing.

Turning back to her, I let my eyes rest on hers for a while. The defiant expression was still harbored in hers. She wasn't ready to change her mind.

"This is it then". I gestured towards the road and she nodded her head. "Good luck and stay safe".

"You'll need it more than I". She replied, winking.

With that, she began her walk down the lonely road, away from me. I stood there, watching her till she disappeared from my sight but my sensitive ears could still pick up her even heartbeat that told me she was perfectly fine.

Finally moving from where I'd been standing, I pushed the truck into the forest, through the tiny trail we'd emerged from, to burn it.

Once it was farther into the forest, I shot lasers at the fuel tank from my eyes, blurring to the cabin, as it exploded.

My peace was back. Me all alone, in the woods.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
