Nine months too late: After divorce by Baby Charlene -
Chapter 105
As soon as they reached outside and air zapped past her face, Sylvie was finally able to get her eyes open.
Her vision was blurry at first. She looked at the unclear face before her. Second by second, it got cleared until finally, she could see who it was.
Her mood snapped. Despite the dizziness still lingering on the edges of her consciousness, her eyes widened like they’d seen. a ghost.
An angry exhale left her lips as she peeled herself away from him, the part of her skin where he’d touched her instantly feeling hot.
“How dare you!?” She roared, red tinging her cheeks.
“For God’s sake, can you calm down, Sylvie?” Lancelot made a half eye-roll. “I was simply trying to help-”
“Have you been following me? How did you know I was here!?”
“I didn’t, okay? I simply came over to get a drink and coincidentally found you. How can you be drinking in a bar like that with so many men in there when you’re alone and-”
She shut him up with a slap.
“That is for touching me.”Her voice was filled with so much venom.
She stepped closer to him. “Next time, even if you see me burning, Lancelot, don’t try to save me. Never!”
She glared at him for some seconds before turning away, going towards the road.
She had come with her car, but at that point, she knew it’d be impossible driving herself to the hotel. She’d be using a taxi and just come for her car the next day.
“You’re drunk! You might not make it home in this condition!” Lancelot said after her.
“Home?” Sylvie turned to face him, laughing humourlessly. “What home, Lancelot?” Her eyes darkened with pain. “Thanks to you, I no longer have a home to return to.”
She turned around, resuming her faltering walk to the road.
Lancelot reached out and grabbed her hand. When she looked at him, her eyes burning with rage, she saw pity in his eyes for the first time. “Look, I’m sorry, okay? I swear, I never wanted this to happen. I-I know I was a d**k ninety percent of the time and made you feel threatened by what we did, but the truth is, I’d have never really exposed you myself, Sylvie. You might not believe me, but I respect you for what we shared in the past and wouldn’t go this far to ruin you-not when you’re like this.” He glanced down at her stomach. “I’m sorry.”
It was the first time Lancelot was ever sounding and looking remorseful. It was a new side of him. But looking at him, all Sylvie could think of was the urge to murder him. If only it wasn’t illegal.
“You never wanted to expose me, but you did – indirectly.” Her voice was tight with pain, fresh tears glistening in her eyes. “If that recording wasn’t made, there would have been no evidence, Lancelot. Heck, if you hadn’t used me ten years ago, none of this would’ve happened. So, you ruined me.” She sn***ed her hand free from his. “And for that, you have my word – if I ever see an opportunity to destroy you, I’ll not hesitate. For as long as I live, I’ll loathe you.”
Lancelot had never seen Sylvie that way before. He’s seen her hurt and angry, but not ‘that’ angry. She looked like she wanted to crush him to death.
She turned away, wiping the tear that had already come rolling down.
A taxi passed and she hailed it down, getting in.
In the morning, Sylvie had someone bring her car to the hotel.
She spent a long time in bed, not even having the appetite to eat.
It was evening when she finally had real food. And as she ate, she thought of her babies. They were due a week from now. She needed to think of the best way to handle them.
Perhaps, it was time for her to finally leave the country. But the thought of leaving Kage behind frightened her. They had made so many plans to welcome the kids together.
Maybe, she could replace another apartment to stay for the meantime. But since she was expecting twins, it’d have been nice if she had the company of someone that could assist her.
When Sylvie finished with her meal and was randomly going through her phone, the email of the test results from two days ago flashed through her mind.
She still wasn’t interested in anything else, but a part of her finally wanted to know what the result said.
So, she sourced for the email, clicked it open and in a few seconds, her eyes widened in shock.
Although, she had suspected it, but finally having the confirmation before her was startling her.
Cora and Lily were Lincoln’s kids!
What the hell?
Paul must’ve had no idea. Why would Evelyn do such a thing?
She stayed frozen for some seconds, the thought replaying in her head. Bit by bit, they pieced together until it started making sense.
What if… What if….
Oh, God.
She reached for her phone, trying to call Kage again, but his line was still not reachable. Now more than ever she wished she could speak to him.
It was too late to go to the station to speak to Westley. Aside these two, there was no one else to call.
“Damn it!” She cursed from the frustration of not being able to reach Kage.
Obviously, Evelyn and Lincoln must have been involved in a secret relationship while Paul was alive. According to Cora, Evelyn and Paul started having arguments res days to his death.
What if Paul had discovered the affair? What if… Lincoln was the one plotting something huge against Kage in the Group, and Paul was in on it, but when he discovered Lincoln had been sleeping with his wife, he decided to expose the plan which led to Paul’s death?
The possibility sent a shiver down Sylvie’s spine.
Could this be the reason Lincoln was unmarried at his age despite his wealth? Was it because he loved Evelyn and knew Cora and Lily were his?
What if… Evelyn had used her to take Westley out? Probably because Westley would’ve been a threat in the Group had Lincoln succeeded in his plot against Kage? Had Evelyn lied and used her to achieve her cheap goals?
Fury swelled in Sylvie’s chest. The c**ng witch! How perfectly she had played the role! She deceived her!
If this was the case, it only meant Kage’s life was in danger.
Swiftly, she stood up, grabbed her car keys and stormed out of the room. She needed to go to Evelyn. She couldn’t let the ***h get away with this.
Westley was locked up in jail because they thought he had something coming against Kage.
Suddenly, it started making sense to Sylvie. She remembered when Westley had gotten into an accident on his way to The Group meeting to conduct the vote. Kage had insisted it wasn’t his doing. What if it had been Lincoln’s? He definitely wanted Westley out of the Group.
Rage filled her heart at the realization that she had fallen prey to their st***id plot. They’d used her! And Kage’s life was still in danger!
She got into her car and hit the road, heading to Evelyn’s location. But she’d barely made it far when a bigger car crashed into hers from the side.
Sylvie’s head reeled, her leg hitting the brakes on impulse. The crash was the last thing she remembered before the inevitable darkness consumed her.
