But now that she was aware that Gareth wouldn’t propose to Linda, she felt that everything was well and whole.

Having experienced the worst outcomes, there was a sort of gratitude for how things turned out.

There were nine people seated at the dining table.

Linda and Gareth used to sit together because Darren and the others would organize it, but now they were

thousands of miles away. Simply put, they were beyond reach.

Linda was uneasy and terrified because Gareth had a brutally icy demeanor the entire time, and he hardly even

gave her a glance.

However, she was at a loss for what to do and was powerless. Her heart was filled with a growing sense of unease.

Norman inhaled a little, grinned as he glanced at Darren, and continued, “Why did you want to eat with us today,

Old Mr. Wickam? Do you wish to discuss the two children’s engagement more?”

Norman made a direct statement.

Linda’s heart began to shake quickly, and her terror increased. The threat she feared the most was approaching!

Her eyes were filled with terror as she hurriedly grabbed Rose’s hand underneath the table.

Rose quickly clasp her hand and gave her two firm squeezes while reassuring her not to make a mistake.

Darren’s smile froze at the corner of his mouth, but the next instant, he grinned and nodded. “Yes, I invited you

over for lunch so I could talk to you about that; after all, the date we agreed on is rapidly approaching. The closer it

gets and the longer it goes, the less important it will be.”

Linda drew on as her eyelids quivered slightly, and she turned to face Gareth. What exactly do those terms mean?

Rose and Norman were both shrewd individuals; how could they fail to recognize that something was amiss?

Nothing was going easily, in addition to everything else that occurred. They were sure that the Wickam family had

heard the recording.

Rose and Norman remained silent, and Linda simply stayed silent out of a worry that she might lose her cool if she

spoke.

Norman continued speaking gently after a pause, “What are you going to do then, Old Mr. Wickam? We’ll

cooperate.”

What ought to happen would still happen, but he must continue to act as though he was unaware of it.

What if it was only a false notion?

Be optimistic.

Gareth remained silent and appeared composed.

Julia had a grin on her face. Although she appeared courteous and respectable, she was actually quite pleased.

Darren should also tidy up the mess he made. Who was it who screamed the loudest?

Jerry and Monica remained silent, putting Darren in charge of today’s affairs.

Darren looked at his family members sadly, smiled at Norman and said, “It would be even better if Mr. Benett would

cooperate.”

Norman could not comprehend what Darren was saying.

The more this old man talked, the more he didn’t feel right.

Linda felt that her heart was about to jump out. She raised her eyes slightly and smiled a little forcedly, “Grandpa,

why would you say that?”

Darren’s eyes flickered with humiliation.

Linda was confused by his reaction.
