“Tell me! Girl, I will take responsibility! I want to see who dares to ramble on! You can’t be wronged like this!” Julia’s

voice was unyielding, and her eyes were cold. In the past, Grandma always had a warm air about her. Now, Elisa

felt that Grandma had a frosty air around her.

For a split second, Elisa was slightly astounded.

Perhaps it was because she had never witnessed it, so she never thought that Grandma would also have such a

demeanor.

She thought that Grandma was just an old lady from a wealthy family and that she was just dignified and graceful.

But now… Grandma had such an air about her.

Elisa’s heart felt warm. She was quite moved by Julia’s words.

After pausing briefly, Elisa sighed. “It’s alright, Grandma. After all, I can’t stop them from gossiping. They can talk

about it however they want to.”

“How can that be! Tell me about it. I want to hear what they’re saying!”

Elisa’s eyes flashed, but she didn’t say anything. She seemed to be slightly conflicted.

Gareth sized Elisa up. There was something strange about her today.

She had never cared about what other people thought of her. Otherwise… she wouldn’t be so aloof after he had

done so many things.

But now, Julia was only concerned about defending Elisa. She didn’t care about anything else and only looked at

Elisa while holding her hand. “Girl, tell me! What happened?”

Elisa hesitated for a while before saying softly, “Rumors say I have an ulterior motive for coming to Wickam Group.

They think I want to remarry Gareth, but the Wickam family is out of my league. They even said that Gareth doesn’t

care about me and that he let me come to the company for your sake.”

Julia was immediately in a towering rage. She slammed the coffee table.

‘Bang!’

Elisa’s expression changed, and she held Julia’s hand at once. When she looked at Julia’s palm, she realized it was

slightly red. Before Elisa could say anything, Julia snarled, “What nonsense! How is he out of your league? It’s my

grandson who is out of your league! He’s the one who doesn’t appreciate you!”

Gareth was flabbergasted.

He glanced at Julia’s palm and didn’t say anything when he noticed it was fine.

Elisa immediately said, “Grandma, don’t get angry. Many people like to gossip.”

Julia gritted her teeth. “Tell me! I want to know what else they’re saying!”

Elisa coughed lightly and glanced at Gareth before finally saying in frustration, “They mean that with my current

situation, I came to the company by groveling. They think I don’t know my limits and can’t distinguish good from

bad. They also say that I’m throwing my weight around, and Gareth only gave me certain authority for your sake.

Furthermore, they say that I don’t know my worth and that I’m barking out commands recklessly, so they’ve been

placing bets.”

Julia was startled and gritted her teeth. “These rascals!”

Gareth’s frown deepened. When did the company’s social order become so sloppy?

Why didn’t Thomas tell him about any bets in the company?

He took out his cell phone and sent Thomas a text message.

Elisa lowered her eyes slightly and didn’t say a word.

“What bets?” Gareth asked as he looked at her calmly.

Julia raised her hand to hit her forehead before looking at Elisa. She said in a deep voice, “I forgot about it in my

rage. Tell me. I want to know how these people placed their bets!”
