Chapter 873 Mind Teaser

Jerry looked at Gareth and said calmly, “So what do you think now? Do you really want to remarry Liz?”

“Yes,” Gareth replied without any hesitation.

Jerry was surprised, “Are you sure?”

“Mm,” Gareth replied succinctly.

Jerry stared at him, “Do you really love Liz, or do you simply just perceive her as wife material?”

Gareth burrowed and looked at Jerry. “Given Elisa’s current plight, do you think she’s ready for a relationship? So, I

am her best choice if she doesn’t want any emotional attachment.”

“I’m not asking about her. I’m asking you,” Jerry said solemnly, waiting for his response.

But Gareth frowned again, “What’s the difference?”

Elisa had no interest in being in a relationship with any man. So, no matter who she chooses to marry, it wouldn’t

be for love. In this case, wouldn’t that make him the ideal candidate? Plus, they used to be together before this.

“Of course, it’s different,” Jerry pursed his lips, looking at Gareth. He pointed out, “Love is fundamental in a

marriage. If you marry her without love, chances are you won’t care for her in her sickness or even consider her

emotional interests. But what if she marries someone who genuinely loves her?”

Gareth remained silent.

Jerry said again, “Assume Liz marries Carle. She will only be loved and spoiled by him. He will put Liz before

anything and safeguard her emotional well-being because he’s nuts about her. But if it were you? Not only would

you not protect her, but you may also impose certain expectations or pressure on her. Now, tell me, do you see the

difference?”

Seeing Gareth didn’t say anything. Jerry continued, “The simplest thing, for example, if Liz accidentally cuts her

hand while cooking. What will you do?” Jerry gazed at him, waiting for his response.

Gareth furrowed and gave him a “Duh!” expression.

But because Jerry was his father, Gareth didn’t mince words, “Of course, bring her to see a doctor.”

Jerry let out a guffaw.

Gareth’s brows were knotted in annoyance. He said coldly, “What’s so funny?”

Jerry twitched his lips and said, “If it were Carle, he wouldn’t even let Elisa cook. But you, you would want her to

cook for you.”

Is he playing a brain teaser with me?

Gareth looked at Jerry, somewhat annoyed, “You asked me what I would do if she cut her finger. You didn’t ask me

what I’d do before or after she cooked. The thing is, she’s an independent individual. I can’t stop her from doing

what she wants to do.”

Jerry smiled, “That’s the difference between truly loving someone and not. If you love her, you will protect her with

your life.”

Gareth pursed his lips, “You never treated Mom like this.”

“Your mother and I were a marriage of convenience. You’re old enough and should know that by now. Don’t you?”

Gareth pursed his lips and didn’t speak as if agreeing to Jerry’s statement.

Then, he started the car engine and ended the conversation.

Jerry refused to get out of his car. Gareth looked at him, “Where to?”

“Send me home.”
